When they come in and you're on them you can cast deep diving cranks that mimic the colors of crawfish. Every cast hook up with sometimes 2-3 per treble. Fishing the outer breakwalls was my best luck. A lot has changed with access
When I would go we would walk out onto the levy that use to be there waves use to crash on the rocks and soak us lolol we would look like walking ice sickle's but walleye and perch would Hammer 20 yard cast straight out from the rocks
Ahhh, back in the late 80s early 90s I was about 10 years old, when the Smelts were hitting hard we used to catch multiple 5 gallon buckets on Montrose harbor. We'd light a hobo fire in a garbage can, and hang out with a bunch of friends and family, man those were the days.
@@supered247 It's good fun. We cooked the smelt right there in a fryer. I think it was a propane one or something but yeah, smelt and beer. Right there on the steps of the Chicago Adler Planetarium.
Many years ago, probably before you were born, I used to fish perch at the stern of the USS Silversides, a World War II submarine that was moored at Navy Pier before it was gentrified. I am talking jumbo perch up to 12' long. At the time there used to be a little shack that sold awesome fried shrimp, that too, long gone. Thanks for bringing back some memories. Stay Well !!! Fish On!
Rockys. I remember it in the early 70s. Used to get crayfish there in a shrimp fried rice container. Long time ago. When the lake had long hair algae and alewives. Not a state tourist attraction like today
@@JohnDoe-jc3cl Rocky's, exactly! Could not think of the name. As kids we would ride our bikes down to the foster ave beach and have alewive fights out in the lake, lol. Boy did the beaches stink with piles of dead alewives on the beaches
Great video, bro. You did a lot of walking/bussing/train-ing to get to the Pier but was worth it based on the results! I myself use raw shrimp (pre-soaked in salt brine) for the Pier because its hard to get minnows out where I live. The shrimp was almost always as effective as any of the baits the other guys were using, including minnows. I also found that perch eyeballs are a killer bait so I would use these in a pinch or if the shrimp wasn't getting it done. Keep up the good (video and fishing) work!
Regardless of results it's always worth trying. You can't catch fish from the couch you know. Plus you'll never know how good it is till you try it. Much appreciated
I have never used shrimp for perch im going to try it my most killer method when water is warm is a no.3 mepps spinner with the red plastic over the treble hook fish it just fast enough to feel the spinner thump and have it slight fall as you retrieve it trust me its a kill they cant resist..but you have to follow instructions..👍🎄
@jeffbeagle442 I've fished braidwood just never from a boat. Would be a koo to try it nd I've always wanted to try those ponds. Ik each pond as a different species
@FACB25 they are putting one in. They already started it. But what we're hoping happens is they make it part of the pier program nd we'll just have to buy a pier pass for the season.
We went 2years ago. Because of the zebra muscles the water is clear in the shallow water. They like to go out a little bit deeper and hide in the shadows.
Dude I don't understand what your trying to say. But I've been fishing my entire life okay. And just because I take the public transportation doesn't mean I'm less of a fisherman.
luigi mangione out here perch fishing!! lol good stuff brother!! im hitting the pier this weekend. im down in Lockport
I’m from Mokena 😂
I subscribed im in chicago as well. Im glad to see videos from the city! U are dedicated to your fishing for sure!! Great job
Greetings from the other side of the pond. I'm in Northern MI now and perch is not only a mainstay, but a fav. Colder water the better!
Very much agreed
You deserve a thumbs up just for going outside, let alone taking train and bus.
@@everestinspections9088 much appreciated it

That’s awesome man
Killing it dawg. Perfect navy vid.
i thought they closed the pier for fishing, nice to know its still open.
That's cool, we used to catch them by the docks. Sometimes we would catch a guppy and used its head for bait.

I'm in Chicago too bro. Cool video I subbed brother

Back in the day Montrose Harbor was the place for perch not sure about today
It's more a summer thing then a winter thing. Either way I don't fish montrose much
Chasing them perch myself, keep on fishing 🫡
N/W side checking in,great content. When do the perch normally stop for the season?

We used to nail them back in the day with some soft shell crim Ed Shirley's sss

Try maggots & spinners, I used to do that back in July back in the 1980s.
I read that next year fishing will be no fishing on navy pier , cause the city will make a new marina for boats there

How bout a bigger perch?.. like a walleye?
Great stuff
Quick question what size do they have to be and how many could you keep a day?
Go deeper water with a bobber and use shrimp as bait
@@danrees5516 yea we definitely wanna try that out

The perch up by Milwaukee's pier are tastier

Nice. Gotta get out there

Wasnt expecting that tbh, i sit the hook and i felt the weight and knew it wasnt a perch

@patriciaguenzler9150 very nice. Trophy size perch
Dip in egg, 😊then Italian bread crumbs
Luigi Mangione???????????????
You brave eating fish from Chicago river? I bet you don't need to use a nightlight when nature calls you from your slumber.
@abebeaku8369 well if I was eating out the river I would understand that but I don't eat out the chicago river. That's lake Michigan.
Are hear they have lots of bones but sweet
Not if u know how to filet em, u could avoid all the bones, and if miss sum, they burn up wen they get heated
Unfortunately the jumbo not jumbo anymore
@chadbrunson4792 yea the did die out. I did catch a 13incher the other day
At 87th
I hope your got your CC taking the train n bus😭
😂😂
It’s illegal you clown
Most Naperville comment I’ve ever read
I’d be careful eating anything that came out of water that close to the city. You’ll wake up with a second head my man.
Nah the fish out the lake are clean. I've been eating perch from navy my entire life. Just gotta clean the right
I live off the fish in the lake. I no longer take hbp meds and lost tons of weight. Lake Michigan is cleaner now than ever in the last 60 years.
Glow in the dark fish😅

👍
Water very clean now.
A lot better than red meat from the grocery store with antibiotics
Cleaner than the 70s/ 80s
Those are dinks why would you waste ur time

Dumb uselss ass comment, do us a favor and delete it… fishing is fishing whether you drive, walk or fly to the location…
Shows his dedication
That makes no sense. I use cta or metra all the time. If you fishing. You fishing
Just seen some guy and his sister in the train with fishing gear.
Some people have paranoia towards public transportation, too much news
