I tried this about a month ago. In settings you have to choose 'On startup - Continue where you left off' which is not the option you would want. They should create a function 'Open Chrome with Tabbed Groups'!
Thank you for the tips! However, using a tab manager extension like Tabone or Tabion might be better in terms of cognitive load as they save your time and energy. Additionally, what would happen if your Chrome unexpectedly closes? You should be able to recover all the closed tabs somehow. But thanks anyway!

Will the groups be saved if the browser and closed and the computer is restarted?
