Back in the days I used to hate land destruction with stone rain, plow under etc. When I stopped playing Magic for a while and came back to MTG Arena I was quite happy finding out that this architype kinda died out. But nowadays I always enjoy seeing some unusual attempts of deck building like this :D
In my days, I made a land destruction deck using Sunglasses of Urza, Red Elemental Blast. blue elemental blast and some Tectonic Break to close the deal. Plus some other color sinergies with the Blind Seer to use those same spells as counters, it was fun.
@@Manascrew yeah, I returned to the game two months ago and I notice the same thing. There was many things that I did not like of the current meta, incredible broken cards (there was also some in our days but not like now), but I still was trying to make a 4 color adventure deck to work (for diamond was ok), but later came the last duskmourn expansion, and my game just bug, I was not able to open a seal anymore and the game crashed all the time. I tried everything even from a complete windows installation from zero, but I was not able to solve it. Maybe this is for the best, because now the meta is even more crazy, is like you need to have an ultra fast deck, or tons of removals or board clean spells. At that point sinergies does not matter much, and the only thing that matter are broken cards, those single cards that if you dont deal with them in one turn, you lost.
@@angellestat2730 theres a turn 2 kill in standard that almost lets you win every time. its so stupid. ive been tryna make homebrews and kill them and im ranked i think 94 rn? so its working pretty well
@@Manascrew yeah, at this point skill does not matter anymore, just a bit of luck and the right cards in the deck. In our time, only in the most extreme formats there was turn 3 or 4 wins (playing a lot of cards in those turns). If I would be MTG CEO, I would add a new format where the most extreme cards (of all types) are all out, also removing any card who can create a kill combo just using 2 cards. Not only more fun in my opinion, it would not scare newbies that start to play and they see how they die before they play their second land. That is why I do not care to fix my bug anymore.
I will say you make real good decks, but this one is by far my favorite/best deck you've cooked imo! I love this especially in this meta, and i will be net decking lol! Cheers bro!
@Swayze, you should consider adding The Stone Brain into this since you can choose any card name, eliminating threats or lands as needed. Not to mention copying its ability lets you choose a different card so you could get rid of up to 8 lands for 4 mana w/ vantress visions. Just a suggestion. :D
Hey Swayze, love the vids. I think this deck needs more green and red sources since you have 2 double pip 3 mana plays(18 sources for a 24 land deck). I have been having the same issue trying to make a grixis control deck using brotherhoods end and three steps ahead + black for deadly cover up. I end up having to run tons of tap lands to make it work or switch to confounding riddle instead of 3 steps. Still, love the deck concept and always enjoy your vids!
Keep doing more land destructions decks, those are your most fun decks. ALthough, not sure about the green overlord who needs 2 green to ramp up, your 2 red are more need it and having blue is also a priority. It works great with the return spell and beans. But not sure if there is another better remplacement who can not put so much pressure on the lands.

very cool idea, still i think alot of cards are useless, ovika in primis look useless, the whole red color feels forced, given you only need one red source for the forge at 5 mana with overlord ramping and with fabled passage for fixing since the removal are way subpar. i'd add white or black instead and rely on mmy fixers for the single red i need for forge. and i would put alot more bouncers
Last 2 games were only won because of direct and bizarre opponent blunders. On the second to last game, why in the world did that guy flash in his 2nd flanker before Swayze's end step? And why in the blue hells did the last opponent not clearly and obviously sac the nightmare before his lands were destroyed, despite showing that he was on the mill path several turns in? Just odd.

I played against a deck similar to this not to long ago. Its hateful and you're a hateful man lol. Land destruction is the worst. After the second land gets taken out and I realize what is happening I scoop. Aint got time for that nonsense.
It's very durdly and not very competitive. Plenty of games where this deck would just die to aggro. But yes land destruction decks and discard decks that don't even let you cast your cards can be annoying haha.
I think land destruction and mill are just the absolute worst, why build your gameplay around not letting the other person play, that's how you get punched in the face, bit too chronically online

Thank God the Forge is a cast effect, immagine the sheer degeneracy you could have achieved with a normal ETB.

Virtue was in exile and when it's on the board it only copies etbs and the instant side only copies triggered and activated abilities.

I agree, this deck should just die to any kind of real aggro, not enough removal. I'm playing control with like 12 removal spells

this deck is fun but very janky, went for 98% mythic to 91% mythic with it

Eh, I wouldn't worry about it to much. Land destruction is very rare and you won't come up against it very often.
