    Most overlooked brake maintenance procedure.
    Note: When pushing the pistons back in, make sure you're pushing them straight in. If you're pushing with an angle then the piston will get stuck. Hold the other pistons down and pull the brake lever so it comes unstuck.
    DON'T try and push it in with force if its stuck. It should go in smooth with little force.

      How often should I be doing this to my brakes?

    Best brakes I ever had! Easy to install,bleed and maintain. Great design and absolutely crazy braking power. Soon I will replace everything on my bike with your stuff 😊 I'm very satisfied

    I have the RX4+ callipers (shimano version) which use Shimano mineral oil. My understanding is that the silicone lubricant should not be used with mineral oil. I've just used the mineral oil to lube the pistons. I know most Hope brakes use DOT fluid, but might be worth clarifying this.

    I’ll try the piston lube on the road 4-piston callipers. I’ve got mine perfectly centred having just fitted them but whatever I try the front brake always rubs after the brake has been applied (pistons don’t retract properly). It’s doing my head in having spent an hour trying to sort it out following the Hope guide step by step.

    • @BenBroomfield

      Did you ever find the solution to this? I’ve just installed some new hope callipers and having the same problem, the pistons don’t retract.

    Nice video very helpful.. Keep up.!! If disc cleaner damage seals why not to try to make better compound seals.. I would be happy not to worry about damaging them when cleaning my bike

    • @ridesafe-mtb7514
      @ridesafe-mtb7514 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Why you would just not be idiot 🙃 if you put brake cleaner on pistons when you will get them back in place they will go on seal and seals are in contact with the dot inside the circuit and degreaser+dot isn’t really good 😅😂

    Great video - really helpful. I’ve been through all the procedures for my rear brake, but have now lost all pressure in the brake system. I did the work with bike upside down, not on a stand- could this have caused loss of pressure perhaps? Do I now need to bleed the brakes?

    Hey from Aussie …
    Love all my Hope parts man, wondering if it should be or needs to be done or would it gain me anything to wind both levers all in/out #BPC & Reach or leave as I’ve had them set up previous to lubing etc..
    Running V4 Tech 3 setup
    Cheers

    Lube attracts dirt and dust. Just clean the pistons with isopropyl alcohol.

    Thanks for making this video, I've watched the one you guys posted years ago a bunch of times. I have the V4 calipers with regular rotors (not vented) so the pistons have to be pushed out more than normal to bite. I noticed that the pistons don't all push out at the same time (one or 2 always seem to stuck or slower. I am pretty sure I need to lube them but I can't find the lubricant anywhere. What lubricant do you recommend that I use to lube the pistons?

    • @TommyHuynh
      @TommyHuynh 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      steven yeah but the funny thing is when I look for silicone lube online all I see are sex lubes. I'm pretty sure that's good for my pistons

      Mine were like that until I greased the pistons and worked them in and out over and over.
      I took the wheel off and wedged a plastic screwdriver between 2 of the pistons to hold them back, then pumped the break until the other 2 came out a long way. Dab of silicone grease all the way round with a cotton wool bud and pushed them back. Do the same with the other 2 pistons. Once they are greased take the time to keep pumping the pistons out and push them back until they all move the same when you pump the brake.

    Najgorsze hamulce z jakimi miałem doczynienia. Archaiczna konstrukcja z jakąś chorą metodą odpowietrzania i ustawiania. W Shimano czy Sram odpowietrzanie to 3 minuty,a tu godzina i dalej są miękie. Nie rozumiem zachwytu nad tym gównem.
