the word she uses for a battle scream "kiai" is a classic one for jp martial arts. i was in karate for years and it was one of the earliest things they taught us it keeps you focused, keeps you breathing so you dont lock up, it might scare an enemy into flinching or fleeing, and tightens some of the muscles in your torso for a small level of natural armor. korone does western boxing but her instructor probably incorporated kiai for all the same reasons mine did.
Even outside marital arts a lot of PSAs now suggest screaming if attacked by someone, not only to focus your energy and possibly make them flinch but also force an adrenaline rush from your body to help overpower them/get away
@@WalkerSunriseChannel Related, as both the muscle clenching & yelling also mimic common patterns your body uses in survival conflict (since our brains are programmed for brief physical survival encounters and to broadcast social alerts about sudden threats) using those gives your body _very strong physical signals_ when a threat / conflict is over. That's why doing that can help to manage stress & anxiety attacks by the same physical signal mechanisms that breathing control does - as well as why they're also helpful for snapping back to normal _after_ a startle response gets triggered like with jump scares.
@@PierceArner Exactly, it's converting the adrenaline from Flight into Fight, and avoiding the freeze up response. Some people can do it at will, but for most it's easier to do it with a "trigger", and it can help to intimidate the opponent.
I've never seen anyone mention this theory, and it's the most logical thing for me. When Korone leaves the shampoo, he interacts with the tap of the shower and before the sound of the shower begins, Korone takes the soap. What scares her is the sound of the shower.
Her explanation is legit. In Japanese martial art, specifically Kendo, there is a concept called "Kiai", which is literally screaming before, during and after striking. Kiai not only a form of self-buff (increase respiration rate, atk power and resist fear and pressure of opponent) but also a psychological attack, as it demonstrates your "killing intent" and slowly builds up tension and stress on the opponent as the fight progresses
i learned kiai in karate and sensei pointed it out for all these same reasons. korone is a martial artist but she does western boxing. im thinking they probably incorporated kiai into the style and thats where she picked it up
Y’know, I was always told the purpose of Kiai was to steel the diaphragm so you were less likely to get the wind knocked out of you by incoming blows. I can absolutely see the psychological aspect though. That said, idea that after all this time, the Soap Moment was just Korone’s Kiai? I’m downright tickled by this information.
@Q-Bit tighen the abs for defense, trigger an adrenaline response for speed and power, negate the fear response to hold ones breath, scare the opponent into flinching or fleeing, and possibly summon help who hears a sudden scream. all rolled into a trained reflex action that doesnt interrupt anything else you wanna do combat-wise.
That just means she has good survival instinct. Screaming is a reflex our ancestors developed to scare off predators in an ambush, as well as notifying their group of imminent dangers. *Not* screaming in terror when you get scared or surprised is actually not good. You would be a deer in headlights.
So, Korone is using the DragonBall Z power-up yell - creates an energy barrier & raises her power level to match the unexpected threat and thus cancels out any fear she has. This 100% makes _perfect_ sense.
I kind of thought that was the case. The soap bars animation just sort of pops directly into your vision and it triggered her fight or flight (in this case scream) response.
Literally the same as a battle/war cry when you are about to run in to a fight to the death. Gives you just enough morale to yourself to not succumb to fear.
This is the same concept behind kiai, by the by. You shout and it releases tension abruptly. It can also spook your opponent and cause them to make an error.
I get her soo much, I also get scared super easily with jumpscares, tho the problem is when its still that shouldnt be scarry, like, I cant play tenis because when the ball is going soo fast in my direction, I just get scared and close my eyes and protect my face...
This sort of defense reflex is unironically the best way to startle or disarm any would be assailants, so it's good to scream if you're scared. Conversely this explains why she was always jumpy during Among Us to the degree that she shouted at Botan (for no reason at the time)
I figured the only reason she did scream was cause she didn't see the bar of soap or didn't expect it to come to her, but then it did and she got freaked out by that. But this is an interesting way to face these!
My absolute favorite Korone moment is from her FFIX stream when she does Garnet's fake scream at the oglop in Dali and immediately gets jump scared by the oglop and screams for real.
Kinda comedic that she put the "Scary Thing" over the Koronesuki outside the window, and then timed her last scream when the Koronesuki pops up again when she got rid of the white screen😂😂😂
New Korone lore power confirmed: "Her scream has supersonic force that is strong enough to repel scary things"
New move for Showdown?
SuperSONIC powers. _Because she's an ambassador for SONIC._
She is "dog god" korone after all.
Korone is Dragonborn confirmed.
It's not supersonic though. It's exactly sonic. (I.e., her scream travels at the speed of sound, because that's how sceams work.)
She is Dragonborn.
FUS ORAYO DAH
Fus Ro *GYAAAAAAAAA!!!!*
The Doggoborn
FUS RO DOG
That explains her new outfit.
korone : scary thing can't scare me if i scare it first
That's literally what some animals do. Like Red Pandas. However, much like Red Pandas, Korone's attempts at this only make her more adorable.
Dog reaction so it makes sense
The Sparta approach 😂
That's what jerma does apparently. He starts firing his gun immediately to drown out whatever noise could happen.
That's actually a great idea. You're basically letting the energy of panic and fear out through shouting and thus calming down

AKA the "Super Saiyan power-up" approach to potential danger.

It doesn't get more Korone than this. Gonna try to employ this technique next time I run into soap!

Time to go to the soap store and scream at some soaps
Conventions can be fragrant enough as it is. Please don't help people find new ways to avoid soap.
@@rasputin529 It's not a theory, it's obviously what really happenened
Ah yes, trying to scare the thing more than it scares her. Endlessly wise doggo
When the monster comes and does it's loud monster scream. But your doggo screams back and the monster runs off.
she truly a doggo. barks at anything that might be scary to scare them first
Korone is doing almighty push with her scream huh. Understandable
Kinda made sense why Subaru is not scared when she played *"Don't scream"* xD
She already broken because of mario stream 😂 its take a toll on her mind
Wasn't it because subaru was too busy laughing at her character dying randomly when she was just speaking?
This sounds like an elaborate cover story for the much simpler phenomenon known as "being startled" 😂
Especially when you turn up the volume and hear the splash of water that she's reacting to
Korone's diagrams are some of Hololive's greatest treasures.
preemptive screaming
ERA armor but for scaring
Screaming loudly as a way to get through a scary moment makes sense
I don't know how to express myself but I'm just so happy she decided to graphically explain that
My favourite part of that Soap clip is how she says shampoo. There’s just something very pleasant about it.
You've gotta watch her old English only Super Mario stream. It's all very pleasant.
@@MakotoTheKnight Her English Mario Kart streams are also all time classics.
Koone turning screaming into a fight response.

Better than getting scared by SOAP

'Like a barrier' I see, I see, against terror, some kind of absolute terror field
An AT field. You're on to something.

*Not* screaming in terror when you get scared or surprised is actually not good. You would be a deer in headlights.
Korone is a fighter. She fights away the fear. Love our fierce doggo 🥲
That's exactly how dogs react to a threat, if you think about it.

So adorable
From her scuffed debut stream to the strongest OBS user out there.
Korone really is the kind of person who screams at the monster to scare it away. And is the perfect target for jumpscares.
0:07 it was very emotional
Honestly I just thought she didn't see it, misclicked and got jumped.
But I guess it's like when you make yourself look bigger to fend off a bear! ^^
She got scared by the delayed water sfx from clicking on the faucet, I think the soap timing was just an amazing coincidence

she asserts dominance thats crazy
To be fair, soap also scares anyone who's been to prison.
