Nikki Dimick there will be still bakteria on your hands after you wash them with soap and water. Some of the germs survive +60c temperature and that is more than two times higher than normal human temperature. Just use gloves and use some hand disinfectant afterwards

He was so relieved once I got it out, he did his little happy dance. He's playing right now instead of constantly chewing his behind. What a relief for both of us!! I can't stand to see him in discomfort!
I paid my vet to teach me exactly what you just did. Believe me, it's no fun for the dog or you. However, it's far better than to have those glands burst and to pay for surgery and have a horribly stinky mess where ever your dog was when they burst. Thanks for this video!

You don't have time to put on gloves every two seconds so most bathers will just squeeze the gland and then wash their hands or usually it doesn't land on the hand. I use a glove when I I bathe so I don't get it on my hand. For the demo I used plastic wrap so it still wasn't on my hand.

I'm trying to do this on my beagle but she bites me, even with two people holding her. She bites the muzzle off! She also bites the vet and had to be sedated last time they were full. I've changed her diet, tried Glandex and giving her fiber in her food, but she's getting uncomfortable every month when they get full. I can't have her sedated every month and I don't know what to do.

Talton L , your dog is biting you because you’re using gloves! Look at how Patty did it. You have to raw dog it. Your beagle probably has a latex allergy. Just make sure to have some rubber bands handy. You’ll want to wrap them tightly around the base of your fingers so you don’t bleed out when you cut them off after squeezing your dog’s asshole.

The dog can get an infection if you don’t do them and it’s worse for little dogs .: you’re worried about hurting your dog but you’re hurting him or her more by not properly taking care of them
They can get infected and rupture. This is not how you empty the glands. The tail is being pulled too hard. You don’t need to hold the tail at all! You put on gloves and lube, the index finger goes inside and you push up between your finger and thumb. Much faster, and no tail pulling.
On occasion they get blocked. When this occurs, they swell and cannot drain on their own. Still, you always use gloves, because you are playing in e.Coli that is present at the rectum, and you wear protective eyewear, because the pressure build up can cause it to squirt out into your face. I put my dog on his back and do it. He’s calmer that way. It’s strange, but we’ve been doing it so long, it’s like second nature now.
