And he hosted another concert at Vicarage Road in 2010, when the club had no money. The money raised was used to buy a young striker from Walsall, Troy Deeney.
I've always had respect for Sir Elton John's passion for the club and the miracles he pulled for Watford, but I had no idea that Watford made as a huge impact on his life.
As a Watford fan, I can't love Elton John and Graham Taylor (God) more. Elton lived the dream we all had as a kid-to be an instrumental part of the rise of the club you love. This was a great video to honour those two. The only thing that needs correcting is that the players don't walk out to "I'm Still Standing" any more. We had a poor run of results when it was changed from Z-Cars to I'm Still Standing so it was changed back
This makes me so proud to be a Watford supporter. Elton John's passion and contribution to the club have had such a positive impact on the town as a whole, and to think he only ever did it out of love for his home town rather than the notoriety it would get him makes it all the more awesome.
As a lifelong Watford fan who was born in the early 90s, I didn't experience the 'glory days' first hand, but the whole story of Elton and Graham is like a fairy tale I learnt from a young age. Despite this, I still learnt some things in this video - mainly around Bertie Mee who I wasn't aware of. Great video as always Tifo!
Watford was the first club to sign my character in FIFA '10 career mode. I knew nothing about them, but I was amused the team with (what I thought was) a moose-crest signed the Canadian kid. I ended up going for a BFA in music, gained a lot of respect & admiration for Elton, but I never knew this part of his story. Makes me want to dust-off that old save file and appreciate it again in a new light :)
Lovely story of a grand club , it's decent chairman and an underappreciated manager . History won't be kind to Taylor and that's a shame. The whole England thing will taint an otherwise legendary C.V and that's just wrong .

This is beautiful, and you know what? It also highlights the beauty of English football culture! People don't choose clubs based on their success but on being local, the home team. Elton John and Watford, Noel and Liam Gallagher when Manchester City were still a small club, Sting and Mark Knopfler with Newcastle (and just for the record, I'm a Sunderland fan), Steve Harris and Russel Brand and West Ham United. Elton John is a beautiful person!
Watford were once Born To Lose, their hopes of success blown like a Candle In The Wind until Elton John used his Healing Hands to not Let The Sun Go Down on his boyhood favourites. It was no Sacrifice for the star, who was reviving his father's favourite team, but also maintaining a connection to some form of a normal life. In the years that followed under Elton, Watford wouldn't Go Breaking fans' Hearts, Saturday Afternoons were Alright For Football, although his time wasn't without controversy: One time during his tenure the question of changing the clubs famous yellow shirts to blue came up, however in the end they didn't go ahead with the idea. I Guess That's Why They're Not Called The Blues. When all's said and done, Elton did a great job. Thanks to him they're Still Standin', and thanks to them so is he.
I was curious to see Elton John's name on the stand while watching a Watford game when they were still in the Premier League; I looked it up and was amazed! I thought It'd be a stunt like the Michael Jackson statue at Fulham but it was a nice story! I'm glad Tifo covered it
All Watford supporters lived the dream at the time thank you Elton and what can you say about GT to see he was MR WATFORD and we trusted him and of course we still miss him and all ways will
Awesome story! I want to see more of those in a near future. Brazilian football has some crazy stories, hope you tell the tale of Bangu and his owner Castor de Andrade, Atletico Mineiro and his Our Lady of the Apparition's curse, the life and times of Tulio Maravilha....

Them winning the 2016 Scottish Cup and the scenes after is still one the best moments. It's even better than Liverpool FC fans did after the UCL imo. Love the spirit of the club, from India!
@@Maxim89Il It was a bit timid tbh. They've played Z-cars for so long now and changed it without consultation. There was always gonna be pushback from the fans.
