The game is littered with smurfs.
I’ll have back to back games in silver lobbies listening to both the enemy AND my teammates brag about their main account and how many x accounts they have gotten to high lvl ranks.
Lower elo is nothing but Smurf vs Smurf. It’s a 50/50 where if you have the better Smurf, you are more than likely going to win the game.
I have an idea
Valorant ranking system punishes you for playing well
For example if you’re ascendant 2 for example and get a KD of 30-5 it will jump elo and match you with elo of immortal 3’s even if their rank shows plat (smurfs) they will be of immortal + elo
Best thing you can do at the moment is try not get a + KD and win the game if you can
This can be achieved by dropping kills and getting 0-10 or 0-15 at the start for example then gradually playing well to your best all the while trying to maintain an even KD and not a positive one
If you don’t do this and keep blasting 30+ kills you will eventually be matched with smurfs cause the opposing team will report you and you could end up being matched with cheaters too
Unfortunately this is the only work around cause the system is extremely unfair with the behind the scenes calculations (elo) compared to your physical rank
Conclusion
Drop kills and try win in a minus KD or even KD ratio
Do not! Try and get positive KD or match MVP
I have noticed that when you get match MvP the very next game your team mates will be amazing for one game then thats it its a downswing after that
Similarly if you keep losing you will eventually match super low elo in comparison (the now gold 3 will feel like bronze and the platinum that played like a immortal 3 games ago will now feel like iron as these are now true golds and true plats).

I always find this an intersting topic, cause like you said its a huge problem.
But about Unrated, it is almost 100% the same as Competive except the rank and the overtime. The problem with unrated is why I don't like to play it, because it's just like you said "fun gamemode with friends". The problem with that is, there is nothing to gain, except joy, there is nothing to work for. That's why people play ranked in the first place, to work to something and see where there skill level is at.
But the biggest problem I have with unrated is that its not taken seriously, cause it's unrated. 80% Of the games I played in unrated to play with a friend, is that people just go afk or troll in one way or another. They won't get punished, no bans nothing. So if people and also val take Unrated more seriously and give it something to work for, than maybe less smurfs will appear. But I doubt it.
just play with your friends, if your friends are also experiencing smurfs play together (team of 3 preferred) and then that way you'll either have 1 smurf and legit player or 2 legit players, or if you have 2 smurfs at least you have some chemistry with your team which can allow you to win
this game is actually sort of unplayable to me. I just played this game for maybe couple of hours, like 15-20. I reached Silver, since it's an old acc. I used to register Valorant in 2020, but never got the chance to play it. enemies on my rank are one tapping, good strategy, lightning speed reaction time, or whatsoever. sometimes there are also smurfs in my team but still it's not really helping, making the game truly one sided. like really, how could people in my rank is that good, if I get matched with similar skill levels. they should be at least playing like me. of course there are times where I thought that maybe I just sucked. and then, my friend, gold and platinum, invited me to play along. and guess what? it's easier in higher rank. at least, I get 15+ kills, with good or balanced KDA. while in bronze or in my own rank, i barely got any kills, 5-19, 7-19, you name it. it's preposterous. people keep saying that valorant is easier than cs, but that's never the case with me. I'm not a really good FPS player, my highest rank in CS is Gold Nova 4 back in 2020. but in CS, I got the chance to compete with people. sometimes I play good. but in Valorant, I feel like the worst player alive, to the point that I quit. I just couldn't stand it.

so in bronze most players have a 39-47 percent winrate, because of the flow of constant smurfs going through the game. If you're not smurfing or getting boosted, you're just going to have a negative winrate.
it's easy to fix, just have smurfing be reportable and have games dropped and RR refunded.
another more automated way would just be to try to have some kind of automated smurf detection. If anyone gets over like 400 average combat score, then everyone's rr gain or loss is 30 percent.
Another automated way to stop smurfing would be to make it so the RR gain is based on your relationship to the top and bottom fragger. If you mid frag, you get no RR, if you top frag you get 25 rr, if you 2nd frag, u get 13 rr. if you bottom frag, you lose 25 rr. So if it's not related to winning or losing, then smurfing has no purpose. I guess maybe you get a 10 percent bonus if you win or something.
its like when woohoojin called out tarz for smurfing and in 5 min he had gone through all 5 stages of greif when trying to defend himself. he finally relized him saying im not trying just doing it to play with my friends isnt a good excuse
games can also do what valve did with csgo when it had gone free 2 play. is add amode where you pay to be in a verfied elo
the problem is nothings gonna change if you report them there isnt even a button for smurfing while you reporting for smurfing
There would be a huge false ban wave if smurfing was an option. Some people are just built different. There have been times where I’ve destroyed players in my own rank and everyone assumed I was a Smurf.

Like either it's a new account and a guy is crushing it right from the start with 40-5 -> probably smurf (instantly rank him in a high rank for 10 games and see what he's up to or use an overwatch feature like cs did) or there is this account in silver with a few games from the past where the player plays like a typical silver player and suddenly there are a few 40-5 games -> obviously smurf, ban him. It's not that hard they just didn't want to, cause
streamer + smurf account = skins = money
and
streamer + smurf account = players getting smurf accounts = skins = money.
Ez as that. Meanwhile casuals will buy fewer skins and will more likely leave the game at some point either way. It's just money in the end. Nothing else.
tbh, today is the day that I am quitting valo because of this. you cannot find a single gold game without havining a minimum of 2 smurfs in it. it is so fked up. I cannot handle it anymore. good bye valo until you fix this problem

Tbf i made a little experiment:
My main is Dia2+ and i used a fresh new account, leveled it up and played 2 Games Ranked.
In the third Game i was instantly in a Asc+ Lobby, so i guess the Smurfdetection works good.
The main problem might be account sharing, where ppl gettin use of low elo accounts / botted accounts with pisslow MMR and staying there until they reach like 30 Wins with 30+ Kills.
Or you lose a round on purpose. That's pretty funny too. I know that from Rocket League where i was smurfing the one time in my life. You keep punishing them and then you give them the round as a present. It's pretty funny, like a cat playing with a mouse. Then you can completely crush the enemy team in the next game. I also recently had a platinum player in Silver who was re-ranked after a break of several months and played a relaxed 40-5. It takes ages for him to reach his original rank again. He is currently in Gold and continues to play similar KDs.
you're wrong about the performance based stats system. You're talking about it in context of performance vs other people, and person to person performance is relative. What the automated stats based performance system should do is look at your static reaction time, and static accuracy. Like you will never have the reaction time and accuracy of a radiant, no matter who you play against.
Im here because I rage uninstalled val 30 min ago after losing a game against a avg 3kd smurf
I was playing CS2, I gave up because of cheaters... I jump on Valo, I get fuc**d by new Silvers account who drop 40-50K in MM but no problem playing against Plat/Diam in Premier.

I just started playing this game like 2 weeks ago so I could play with my friends. I placed Silver 1 and we’re all around the same rank. I’m never the guy to pull the smurfing card and start blaming others for my poor performance, but there’s just way too many people that are suspiciously good down in Silver. I’m pretty damn good at FPS games like Siege, Overwatch, etc. but I have people in my lobbies dropping 40 like it’s nothing.
I’m not great at this game, but I’m not THAT bad. I’m calling BS. I’ve never been silver in a video game ever. The lowest I’ve ever been is like plat. For a game that has so many ranks in it, Silver being the most common rank in the game is really sus considering gold-plat is usually the average in most other games.
No matter what you say, if some lower elo player confesses this to a streamer via text or superchat they're either gonna insult you or just say "you are the rank you deserve" and just shut u up.😅😅😅😅😅😅

the realest solution to resolve smurfing is to restrict competitive at account level of 150 or at least 100.
