    I honestly like the reviews of locks being used in every day life.

    • @lockpickinglawyer
      @lockpickinglawyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      +Kyle Corey I stayed away from locks like this in the very beginning of my channel. However, as I progressed I realized that videos like this are more helpful to most of the people out there. People need to see the level of security provided by locks that are used most often.

      Exactly. I like it

    I have been watching your videos for a few months now. Very impressive. So, here's my deal. Got to my far off destination at the lake and realized that I had forgotten the key to my hitch pin. That SUCKS. I found a very small bladed screwdriver to hold tension and a 1/8" cotter pin that was about 1 & 1/2" long, folded. I re-bent the cotter pin and raked it across the pins 3 times. It literally took about FIVE SECONDS to open the lock. Thanks for the education and helping me to save our boating weekend at the lake.

    Have watched a few of these videos this is the first lock I have attempted to pick. It took me 15 mins and I managed to get it. I can understand how this is easy if you have experience, but boy, as a total noob even finding the pins is a challenge for me!

    I remember when you didn't like to do reviews of... Well crap locks like Master and Brinks. And I am so happy to see that you do more of these type reviews as they help the average Joe, as well as us pickers.
    Great video as always! !

    • @lockpickinglawyer
      @lockpickinglawyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks... I avoided them at first (I even did a video talking about why I was avoiding them), but have come to realize that showing "normal" locks is much more helpful to most people.

    My truck was broken into several times within the span of a few weeks and my trailer hitch pin lock key was stolen as a result. With this video you helped me save over $150 in lock smith fees! Thank you so much!

    Hey LPL. I just found your channel a week ago and think you do a fantastic job. My question is, do you have a list of recommended locks for various applications? For example a trailer section, etc. I appreciate your hard work! (and also the fear you put in me knowing how easy it is to steal something valuable with crappy locks). ~Scott.

    Do you know of a good Trailer hitch pin lock?

  • @panaflex
    @panaflex 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I recently bought a truck that had a drop hitch held in place by one of these locks and no key was provided. I've never attempted lock picking before and happened across this video. Instead of donning my safety goggles and buying $9 worth of cutoff wheels for my angle grinder, I decided to buy a $10 pick set from "LockMall" on Amazon and try my hand at this. Needless to say, after I received my new set, I had the hitch off the vehicle in about 2 minutes without even trying the clear plastic padlock that was included. Now I find myself wanting to practice on other locks LOL.

    Prior to learning how to pick locks, I owned one similar to this one. I had lost the key and tried a hacksaw. That didn't work at all, hardened metal shank. As a last resort I took a hammer to it and the locking mechanism simply fell off of the lock.
    Bosnianbill did a vid of that procedure, I think t was "rapping on Masterlock".
    Currently I'm in the process of re-keying all of the Kwiksets securing my home. They will have security pins, pin springs of different tensions and anti-bump features. I have learned a great deal from you, BB and many others. My wife thinks I'm a genius because I don't tell her where I've learned these things.
    Is that wrong? ;-)

    • @lockpickinglawyer
      @lockpickinglawyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A hack saw would be brutal! You would be better off with an angle grinder. Of course, picking is the easy way.

    • @PolR123
      @PolR123 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      May be hard to remember since it was 4 years ago this comment... but where did you hit it with the hammer? I have this locking pin and my key won’t go in anymore for some reason. Need it off

    • @markleng67
      @markleng67 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PolR123 you can probably hit it from the side and tug at about the same time. The goal would be to activate the pins and make them bounce, kind of like an external bumpkey would do! LOL!
      This was years ago and if it happened now I would easily pick it.
      Good luck!

    Odd that you made this video. I bought a truck from a guy in TN. when I got back to VA, I saw that he forgot his draw bar which had a ball that is no longer made. The pin had a Master POS lock similar to this one. I dint have the key. Had to send the hitch back to him to. Used a triple peak and standard tension wrench. Opened in 3 seconds. Not much of a lock. But makes it difficult for someone wanting to steal it and doesn’t know locks.

      LOL... same for people who use this lock. "Officer, I blinked and my trailer was gone."

    my neighbor cut a master hitch lock off his truck and gave me the core end. i walked into my place, picked up my picks , and picked it while walking back to tell him i picked it. he was like, it took me longer to cut it off the truck, i shoulda just had you come pick it on the truck. i said well duh! its a master lock.

    I use a bolt with an all-metal locknut. Parking lot ball thieves aren't likely to carry wrenches.

  • @jackgates6949
    @jackgates6949 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    As a practicing locksmith for some 40 years now, I LOVE your channel! But sadly I can't find most of your tools through any of my suppliers. HPC, A-1 etc are easy, but yours? The tension wrench you used on this lock was awesome, but I've never seen it? Sources?

    • @markleng67
      @markleng67 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've read previously that it's a standard TOK wrench that he manage to bend in the curve using a micro-torch to make it malleable.

    • @lockpickinglawyer
      @lockpickinglawyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks Jack. Mark is correct. This is a normal Peterson .040" toothless prybar, with a bend that I put in it using a micro torch light to anneal the bend site so the tool would not break.

    This is helpful and also discouraging at the same time.
    So far I have seen you pick just about every lock i own. From trailer locks to pad lock. I no longer feel secure. Do you happen to reccomend locks for the common everyday consumer?

  • @austinhamilton1234

    I feel like Master Lock is the "red-headed stepchild" of lock manufacturers. They're easy to pick on. Haha

  • @scwyldspirit

    I have that lock. I lost the keys to it 8 or so years ago. Since I have gotten into the Locksport I figured why not try and remove the lock by picking it. I took the S rake and had it open in a couple of seconds

      On a consumer level, locks only keep out the honest ones anyways. After watching a few of your videos, it seems like that’s the rhetoric that most companies take. It certainly saves money on material.
      Just so there’s no confusion, I agree with your comment.

    I think where masterlock shines is how badly it is made. I have this exact same pin, even with the key, I have a lot of trouble opening it, so I'm assuming it'll be near impossible to pick because it just doesn't wanna turn.

    Bi Lock also make a similar product. Guess which one I trust more. :)

  • @spcyamada808
    @spcyamada808 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Under optimal conditions like where the lock is easily accessible I'd say that's easy. I think though most locks will be this easy, but the illusion us enough to would be common thieves away.

    • @lockpickinglawyer
      @lockpickinglawyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Perhaps, so long as we all understand that all we are dealing with here is the illusion of security.

    • @spcyamada808
      @spcyamada808 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      LockPickingLawyer ohhh do I like talking about illusion! Yes, the world is all about illusion and perception. And in the world of locks, the lock with the greatest and grandest illusion of impenetrability, unbreakability and costliness will give illusion of safety. It's like a formidable front door with glass windows or personal home security cameras that do nothing but record video. And like the tombs of the pharaohs, even they are the victims of theft.
