Oooooh kisses sweeter than wine.
Oooooh kisses sweeter than wine.
When I was a young man and never been kissed;
I got to thinking what i had missed.
Got me girl and I kissed her and then...
Oh lord i kissed her again.
Oooooh kisses sweeter than wine.
Oooooh kisses sweeter than wine.
He asked would I marry and be his sweet wife;
And we would beso happy all of our life.
He begged and he pleaded like a natural man and then...
Oh lord i gave him my hand.
Oooooh kisses sweeter than wine.
Oooooh kisses sweeter than wine.
I worked mighty hard and so did my wife;
Working hand in hand to make a good life.
Corn in the field and wheat in the bin and then...
Oh lord i was the father of twins.
Oooooh kisses sweeter than wine.
Oooooh kisses sweeter than wine.
Our children numbered just about four
They all had sweethearts a'knockin' at the door
They all got married and they didn't hesitate
I was, oh lord, grandmother of eight
Oooooh kisses sweeter than wine.
Oooooh kisses sweeter than wine.
Now we are old, and ready to go,
We get to thinkin' what happened a long time ago.
Had a lot of kids, trouble and pain,
But, Oh Lord, We'd do it again.
Oooooh kisses sweeter than wine.
Oooooh kisses sweeter than wine.
Oooooh kisses sweeter than wine.
Such a beautiful song, performed by a great folk group. Unfortunately for us all they were blacklisted during McCarthy era.
Personally this song makes me think of what I've missed in my life, a perfect partner throughout.
A beautiful and very moving song. The Weavers were wonderful
Thank You for putting this on here. I was born in 1979 and a real pop music buff. I know almost everything from the start of the Rock and Roll Era in 1955 and afterwards. I want to learn more! So I started going before 1955. Right now I am doing 1951. And it is only because I am a big Pete Seeger fan that I am currently interested in learning about The Weavers. And It is because of the Jimmy Rodgers version that I know of this song. So I was in double heaven when I learned The Weavers sang this
Well, this is just about the most satisfying song I've ever listened to.
Mellow Reeds totally understand what you felt somewhere there’s a even older version of this group singing this song and it is even more wonderful ✨🇬🇧✨✨🌼🌞🌼✨
the harmonics on this are insane. i cry every time i hear this… shouts out to dilla 💜
Both lovely, poignant, and so true of life💐
RIP Jay Dee!!!! this is a real nice song actually
One of the best folk music groups ever. This song, in particular, is very moving. The combination of the lyrics, guitar, banjo, the beautiful harmony of their voices and sensitive presentation of the text. Much of their work will remain timeless and their memory will live on.
Beautiful song, great folk group. Just love this version
Now, this is *real* folk music!
I listened to this all the time when I was little and now I sing it when I'm putting away laundry or waiting for the bus because it's a story song to keep myself occupied. The Carnegie Hall album was my favorite album when I was little.
Makes me think of my wife every time I hear it.
she’s lucky ❤
Well this song is just all kinds of lovely! I love the Bent song that samples Nana Miskouri's version of it in German, but this is a delight.
un souvenir d'enfance mon papa me chantait toujours ce la et me les faisait écouter malgres mes 66 ans cela reste !
it is from the concert in 1963,all the weavers together.
אחת הלהקות מן הטובות שהיו אהבתי אותם מאוד
מסכים מאד
Pete Seeger is Legend! The singers today are nothing!
I have these vinyl records with some of their live performances, and this song is one of them (although it isn't this recording). They were incredibly influential (in my life as well as the folk music industry), and I only wish that I had been alive to see them at the peak of their popularity... I wish that very often about music. I was born in 2002, too late to see even the rise of alternative in the 90's. ;-;
@johnmburt1960 dude I made that comment two years ago shut up lmao
Beautiful ballad, grazie
I heard this at my work. Stuck in my head
I just love them
The best !
Love it! The harmonies and the ladies voice is amazingly beautiful.
Thie harmonies are out of tune.
MANY Thanks!
Let's hope humor keeps the world spinning . . .

Wish I can experience love someday too

I AGREE 100%
I listened this song with Jimmie Rodgers for the very first time and I liked it. I didn´t know this version. I suppose they were the original band.
Rodrigo Mercado Pete Seeger original vato that does this
Original folk band, yes.
Ruth Alice "Ronnie" Gilbert had the only real voice in this group.
I love her voice, too. But I gotta disagree. All beautiful voices.
i listen to the weavers more than any of the 'popular' bands today
What lovely Gem!
sung by Jimmy Rogers
J Dilla killed this shit
Wasn't it Madlib? (Hydrant Game)?
yes he did
If this is communist, fit me with a red suit and poor me some vodka

Blyat! Yes comrade!
It was their Politics, not their Music....They also sang many a Religious song, but some of their members were Athiest...Their Music was Great.....Depends how you think.
J Dilla brought me there

@jjn3420 haha i saw your comment on the Jay Electronica Suckas vid. Dilla is a fucking genius, how did even find this?
Mr Thing brought me here.
Did Aphex Twin use parts of this song in Windowlicker?
Interesting. The backing choir part and its resolution - I see what you're sayin.
J Dilla brought me here.
Wrong sample, but same reason!
sour hour marathon
I like the Weavers, but this isn't a good song choice for them. I like Jimmie Rodgers' version much better.
Interesting comment. I loved Bonnie Rait & Jackson Brown version, research who wrote this version, irish folk, lead belly, weavers so on. I like all of them.
thieves!! this belonged to leadbelly who took it rightfully from sam kennedy lol
Lots of bands take others songs. Like bands today doing their versions of older songs. Lots have to pay for them.
The tune was one that Leadbelly had used. However he himself borrowed it from an old Irish folk song. The Weavers wrote these lyrics. As Solomon once said, there is nothing new under the sun.
