    I've used the information you provided and my plant has doubled in size. I got her in a tiny 3 inch pot now in a 6 inch. The self watering pot is a must. I only use distilled water also. I'm so pleased and thankful for this information. I was struggling with this plant until the self watering pot. She is so freaking beautiful. Thank you so much for that tip.

      Don’t be scared! 😆 You have the skills! Just remember that if it dies back for any reason, cut off the dead leaves and let it grow back. Calatheas are good about that.

    I appreciate this video so much. I saw one of these plants at a greenhouse a week ago and i have spent just about every waking minute thinking about it since. Im absolutely crazy person obsessed with it but i am also terrified i am going to kill it since most of my research has told me they are basically impossible. I decided to give it a try anyways and have been doing even more research to find exactly what to do to give this beautiful plant the best chance. This video is so thorough and i feel a little more confident i can make it work. Thanks!

      If you’re not getting new shoots, I would check your watering first. They don’t like to dry out too much. Found I was overwatering when I first got a WF because I heard they like it on the “moist” side. They need some time to dry out a bit before watering again, just sooner than you would a philodendron or Monstera. If the watering is fine, give it some more light. You got this 💪

    Thank you for the video! A lot of resources I found made me feel like this plant was going to be impossible. But you presented the information in a way that expressed its importance, without making it seem like you had to have a professional grower situation to keep it from just spontaneously dying. My boyfriend got me a white fusion for Christmas, and it did the drama queen plant thing of dying back fairly hard when it got to its new conditions. He also ordered it off etsy in December to Oregon USA. So it had some trauma. She's been bouncing back, but the tips here make me feel way more hopeful for her.

      If it shrivels up quickly, it’s probably water or pests. When it happens to me (and it does), it’s usually pests. It will grow back. Just treat it for the pests. Spray it often with whatever spray is your preference (daily or every other day). Eventually, it will begin to grow back 🌱

    RE: Fertilizer, It sounds like this plant would do well with orchid fertilizer. Orchids also require a very low amount of fertilizer and normal fertilizers typically burn and kill the roots which then kills the plant. I already keep orchids and have one of these calatheas ordered. Will have to see if orchid fertilizer does well for these.

It adjusted, had a couple of crinkly leaves, I had it under a mild grow light, it grew four nice leaves, no crinkling, etc. Now, all of a sudden they all crinkled up. Soil is moist, I don't have a clue what to do with it now. I have a few other calatheas that are doing well, even my orbifolia is getting big, but this one really is finicky! Any suggestions? It's still a "baby" and rather small. Thanks again.

    • @SoiledPlant
      @SoiledPlant  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My first one died from overwatering. I heard “Calathea” and was watering it like a Peace Lilly. It’s possible this was too much water. They do like to dry out a little tiny bit between waterings. Rule out bugs, but I’d guess watering too often.

    Hi! Thanks you for your amazing guide to have our white fusion on point! I have a question...
    Can you clean the leaves with potassium soap or its damages the plant like the neem oil?
    Can you do another video to update us with your white fusion after 1 year?
    Thanks in advance.

      @@SoiledPlant Potassium soap is really good for the leaves and growth. I clean all my calatheas with it and they are stunning and also the most important thing is that is good for eliminate and prevention of parasites.

    Thank you for this video!
    I’ve been lusting over the plant for years and I finally plucked up the courage and bought one from Logee’s. I was bummed (but not surprised) that it looked pretty stressed after I unboxed it. There’s probably about a dozen+ crunchy dying leaves. I was going to give it a week to adjust before messing with it but would you recommend I do the Dr. Jack’s dead bug treatment on it immediately to prevent spider mites or other pests from infesting while it’s stressed? Should I trim off the unhappy leaves or leave it alone for a week?

    • @cynthiameadows2714
      @cynthiameadows2714 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I actually just rewatched and saw your bit about leaving the crispy leaves on. It’ll kill me inside to do that but if you insist. Lol I was also wondering if you recommend a humidity tray with this plant or misting to help with humidity?

    • @SoiledPlant
      @SoiledPlant  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      My “rules” are guidelines basically. Sometimes I break my own rule about the leaves if I’m in a certain mood. As for the Dr Jack’s, I’ve had zero issues with it. I wouldn’t hesitate to use it on plants that were just delivered.
      Edit to add: For humidity, I’d got for a tray over misting. Misting can cause topical mold/bacterial issues sometimes, so I never mist.

    So is rainwater frowned upon? I mean like is that even better than distilled water, or do these really really prefer distilled water. I ordered one from Etsy because it was so beautiful but I had no idea it would be so difficult to figure out. I have been keeping mine in the bathroom and it's alive but I think I definitely need to change the soil. I just wonder about water needs now. Loved your video thank you so much!

    how to keep the purple underside going through? like when you look at it from the top you can see a hint of the purple underside... because when I first bought mine it shows that, but most of the old leaves need to go and the new growth doesn't show those pretty hint of purple :(

    • @SoiledPlant
      @SoiledPlant  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are the tops sides of the leaf showing a lot of white or green? You lose purple if the light is too much or too little. If the leaves are much more green, it needs more light. Much more white, too much light.
      If the leaf colors look normal, check for spider mites. They chew off the under sides of the leaves first, so you loose the purple color that way, too.

    what would you recommend to do if my white fusion’s soil has stayed very moist for 3+ days? i just poked some holes in today to see if that would help, but if you have any other advise that would be appreciated. thank you!

    • @SoiledPlant
      @SoiledPlant  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Poking holes definitely helps. If it’s really moist (almost damp), I would remove the plant and soil from the pot and let it air out for a few hours before putting it back. Some of the outside roots will be disturbed, but that’s better than root rot.

    Wondering if all the roots sticking out the bottom will get pulled off when it gets repotted? That has happened to me before but not with such a sensitive plant. Would you suggest reporting sooner with this plant or perhaps loosing a few roots is ok? Sorry for the stupid question. I just don't want to damage my little plant. Thank you.

    • @SoiledPlant
      @SoiledPlant  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The roots are pretty fine/thin, so they shouldn’t be damaged when pulling them through the drainage holes. That was the case for my White Fusion when I up-potted it. Loosing a couple roots is the name of the game sometimes. Just try to keep as many in tact as possible. With calatheas in particular, try not to disturb the roots too much. My Orbifolia tho, I scored those roots a lot because it was so pot bound and it did just fine :)

    • @SoiledPlant
      @SoiledPlant  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      One option is aerate the soil. Take something small/thin and poke the soil several times. Another option is to saturate the soil with 50/50 water and hydrogen peroxide. Run the mixture through after watering. There’s a great video by HarliG. I use the same method.
