The musical score of Jaws is so incredible, and it plays such a big part in the movie. The music starts slow, and it increases in intensity as you can suspect that the shark is nearby or approaching. The eerie music mixed with the camerawork is tension and suspense at its finest. Jaws is as one of the very few movies where the music alone can scare the audience, and no other movie really does that quite as well. Because if you took away the music it’d be a lot less suspenseful, that’s for sure. And it’s still incredible in 2024 :)

Haven't heard this theme is SOOO long. now I'm really paying attention this masterpiece...this was an amazing composition, I remembered mainly those two notes but that whole orchestra behind those two notes is what builds the suspense... easily one of the top three tension building movie theme (maybe #1)
I love how the different parts of the music capture different aspects of the shark and the movie's portrayal of it. The drumbeats: primordial, crude, evoking the tremors of an earthquake or volcano. Ancient, primordial, brutal nature. The horns: hunting music. Brings to mind imagery of hunting hounds pursuing an animal through the forest. The strings that kick in later: the openness and energy of the ocean, and the sort of natural beauty of the shark. Not evil at all, perfect in its own way, inspiring awe and respect as well as fear.
Years back, my community pool somehow held a screening of Jaws, and I'm pretty sure the audience was supposed to be in the water. I could not say "Nope!" fast enough...
One of my favorite movies from Steven Spielberg. He and John Williams made an excellent movie and music. I still got shivers when I’m listening this theme
Idk if the film should have existed however. It made people think that great white sharks were human killers and started to hate them and started to hunt them down very massively. Even tho the film producer made his excuses about it, still because of it people almost hunted the great white sharks down to extinction. Without the film the sharks wouldn't have got such popularity but at least they would be more safe than now.
Some of John Williams’ best work, which is really hard given how this same guy also did the themes for: Star Wars, Superman, Indiana Jones, Home Alone, Schindler’s List and Jurassic Park (those last two were both directed by Steven Spielberg in 1993, talk about range). It’s probably because this is more simple than most other Williams scores.
I love how you can visualise the story with the music. The slow start, the shark approaching from a great distance. As it quickens, the shark has targeted its prey and is closing in. Then the first horn that comes in, to me its the first instance where you realise this isn't an ordinary shark, its insane, or maybe even evil, rogue as Hooper says. Then when the strings come in, like in the film, you discover the unaturally colossal size of the shark and realise how big a threat it is. That heroic melody of the strings at about 1:39 or so is the bravery of three men voyaging out to stop it. And the slow big end as the two notes come to a stop. Brody finally putting an end to this unatural menace. This is a masterclass in film and film score making 😍
This song says everything about the movie you're about to watch. A giant Shark starts attacking and eating humans. And the town's never dealt with anything like it.
