Before you guys blame Bay it’s not entirely his fault. The original script (which you can find in the novelization) has Megatron be earnest about his truce to Optimus willing to end the war if the Autobot help the deceptions rebuild Cybertron. The two brothers make up and vow to rebuild Cybertron together. Sadly Paramount wanted more sequels forcing Bay and the writers to change the ending

the novel is the best adaptation honestly. megatron offers a truce, he will order all decepticons to stand down because he is tired of fighting. optimus initially doesnt accept, but then megatron says he'd give up his life if that would be better. optimus reluctantly accepts megatrons truce.
They could have just made megatron an anti hero if they wanted more sequels, the galvatron plot point in aoe went nowhere so could have just been cut and have lockdown be the main focus, then in tlk replace nemesis prime with galvatron and have prime fight him instead of bee

I actually like Dark of the Moon Megatron the most, he just seems tired and worn down, also this time round he actually has a decent motivation which is simply saving his planet and race which just makes his exhausted personality all the more cool to watch
Just look at Megatron in TLK, the scene when he negotiates with the army to get his crew, the army asked what Megatron was planning, and he simply replied he just wants to go home, proving that he is just tired of fighting and just wants to return home

I loved Megatron's rusty truck design as a kid.

Not gonna lie, I love the scene with megatron and carly, something about the scene is so good: how megatron doesn't bother to kill her cause he's just so worn down and depressed, how he reacts to what she's saying and how he actually starts to listen to her words. So good
Hunter Hoehn Its a decent scene but it’s the only time in the movie where I miss Michaela. Megatron kind of knew her from the other ones and it would have made more sense for her to be goading him here.
He probably invisioned sentinel optimus and the fallen by his side rebuilding cybertron using the allspark sun harvester pillars and maybe even the seed to rebuild cybertron and bring it back to its golden age and it started to go wrong the moment optimus turned on him then the allspark killed him and when he came back he had to kill his brother then when he came back he killed the fallen and destroyed the sun harvester so by the time of dotm he's almost a broken "man" so he thought :well this our last chance let's get it right: when he found out sentinel will be the one in charge he snapped you can see that in how he rips sentinel apart and then calling for a truce what he is actually saying :let's just end this I want my brother back: but optimus misinterpretes it and kills him meaning they have both been too strong for too long

Even despite Megatron's weakness, because of which he walks slowly and does not engage in battle, he was able to tear off Sentinel's helmet with one kick and with just one hand tore off all his armor along with a part of his body, which is why Sentinel could not get up.

Megatron in his first scene is just perfect.
The cape is to hide his failure to his master, and the shame that came with it. His new mad max style truck form is a reflection of his chosen path from back on Cybertron, one of self destruction, hence why he took it, he saw in the insurrectionists what he once believed himself to be. And in some ways still thinks he is. But also knows that like him, they are more likely driving to their own self destruction.
Now here he is. Alone. Lost. And with nobody. No allies, no underlings, he figuratively and quite literally, a broken man. A shadow of his former self, a fragment of his old glory, and if he is to rule this new kingdom, he shall do do in the tongue of its kings (hence the lion roar).
Great interpetation of megatron in the first trilogy... it's a shame what we get in tf4

I love how Megatron is a complete afterthought of a character in this movie. He more or less gets the entire plot going, then spends the entire movie being lectured, talked down to, or straight-up ignored.
TheGrayMysterious kind of like age of extinction. Megatron is never really the primary antagonist in these films. It’s usually someone else. His minions in the first one, the fallen, sentinel, cemetery wind and lockdown and then Quintessa.

@@Ake-TL never mind his diminishing if not burned to ash ego has been all but murdered and had its grave danced on by the time he hits the last two movies, at that point he gave up on the whole “my command is the only command” because at that time there was no use after having become so depressed, we can probably assume that even with the new body in aoe the depressed and done with this crap megatron from the third film was just power mad with the galvatron body which is why he seemed to put his ego aside in order to remain hidden in plain sight under the humans noses but by the fifth film he’s semi egotistical again and slowly getting back to where he used to be as far as motivation to even continue and anger went- for me the fifth film is when megatron just decides that he doesn’t care about being recognized as leader he just wants his home back, granted he becomes just as manipulative as ever and tricks the humans into freeing his minions and does a lot of stuff on his own like traveling to each horn and working with quintessa and coming up with the plan to brainwash prime if I had to guess after fighting and dying to him twice and having only killed prime once himself..point being he just forsakes the role as THE leader and just decides that one way or another cybertron will be restored

What I love about this Megatron is that he's weaker. Instead of going rushing in, he plans in this movie because his body can't handle much more damage. He even has a nasty infection eating away at his brain. Then when Carly gets through to him, he snaps back to being the Megatron he used to be by decimating Sentinel without effort, even though Sentinel is much stronger and Megatron is physically weaker due to his rotting body

When you think about how this movie was supposed to end with megatron proposing a truce to end the war and optimus agreeing instead of murdering him, you kinda understand why Megatron's a lot calmer in this movie: He's tired of fighting, he just wants the war to end now.

Love the portrayal of megatron in this movie. The fact he hides as a truck shows he is broken and is weaker than what he usually is. Thats why starscream also calls him weak because by this point he is after losing Boby parts. I just wish at the end Prime accepted the truce as megatron is tired of war and realises humans and transformers are similar in nature so he goes into exile. And the deceptions did take the autobots as prisoners, but then they were executing the prisoners. However optimus is brutal when killing the deceptions but he knows they will only endanger and kill human lives.

Yes what would also have been better as if Megatron betrayed Sentinal earlier . That would've been more fitting : Megatron only using Sentinal just to earn the knowlegde of the Space Bridge Technology and then kills him . Enough with the attacking Micheal Bay thing. Megatron chose this truck mode, cause no one would expect him to have an Earth vehicle mode. Also he was still incredibly injured which is another reason why he scanned a truck.
Also he is a truck to be on parallel with Optimus. I personally liked his alt mode and love the personal touches he made like the spikes on the front.

I think Megatron was right...well, a damaged old truck in someones garage, prisoner in a merchenary ship, then a very calm and reasonable person petting some dinosaurs while threatening Grimlock he would kill him, then went into battle facing some made in china transformers, then having his memory deleted by a weird woman robot only to be brought back by his scout... then became a knight and faced Megatron again. It seems like they need each other to have a purpose... sorry my english

I personally don't since both those movies are so drastically different from the others. So to me This movie is were the True Megatron died, and the Transformers movies ended.
I more-so wish that Starscream and Shockwave weren't killed, and that Shockwave had his IDW personality.
The only one that should get the honor of killing Starscream is Galvatron, and the only one that should get the honor of killing/preying upon Megatron is Starscream.

I do love the conversation Megatron and Carly had. She made great points and made Megatron realize that he was being used. He didn't kill her because he KNEW she was telling the truth. She wouldn't have approached him and come in such close contact with Megatron just to tell a lie that would most DEFINITELY get her killed.

I love megatron’s design here(not my favorite because the last knight design exists). It’s the perfect look for a wounded and shamed leader. He hides his face with a hood and that cape looks really cool too. Also he uses a shotgun and that’s awesome

Getting a huge chunk of your head blown off will do that to you. It looks like it’d take about 6-7 years to fully heal, even with the tiny Scalpels constantly working on it, and it certainly didn’t help that Sentinel ripped another chunk out

The problem that I have with Megatron in this film is that while he’s presented as being a certifiable genius in having one plan after the other. And seeing as how his master was destroyed in ROTF and the plan to harvest Energon from the sun went down the crapper, the fact that Megatron could come up with a brilliant plan of working with the previous leader of the Autobots to revive Cybertron is simply brilliant. And something tells me if Megatron had not been frozen in the ice when he crash-landed on Earth, he would’ve rendezvoused with Sentinel after Sentinel landed on Earth and they would’ve used the All Spark and the Pillars to rebuild a new generation of Cybertronians to inhabit Cybertron when the war was over. But because both of them hit a few speed bumps while getting there, Megatron had to move forward with other plans. It’s a shame that Megatron was also depicted as being a broken down old man tired of the fighting, when I always saw him as a megalomaniacal sociopath constantly interested in universal domination.
No problem with this as it’s exactly what I keep stressing to people, but I do have a problem with him collaborating with sentinel, most likely since sentinel was as good as dead by now he would have just used the allspark to take over the universe with no more obstacles in his way

I think the Decepticon plan was to kill Unicron ( Earth ) using the Allspark
. The use of the Allspark on Unicron would awake a new Generation of Earth-machine cybertronians everywhere.
Humanity would have been wiped out and they would just us Unicron's dead body as a temporary new planet.
Then the Star harvester in ROFT would have been used to restore The Fallen and create more energons so the original Cybertron/Decepticon species would stay alive.
Then Sentinel and Megatron would have used the pillars to bring Cybetron next to Unicron's dead body.
They would use the titanium of Unicron to rebuild/morph it with Cybetron.
The matrix would have been used to revive Cybetron.
The reason between Autobots vs. Decepticons could have been that Cybetron died for X reasons.
Cybertron being dead, the autobots have chosen to remain on its body and just die peacefully, but the Decepticons has the idea to actually kill Unicron. We can suppose that Earth was an already known planet and that the autobots knew it was Unicron, but refused to kill innocent people to revive Cybertron.

It's interesting how little screentime megatron has here, yet how big of a presence he feels in this movie / how important of a character he is in this film whilst still being a side character. I really liked megaton's character arc, and the state he got to in this film

Part of the reason the transformation sequences were so scarce and often left offscreen was that the computers used for rendering the transformer models tended to break down and combust for being subjected to such insane amounts of work.
During the making of Revenge of the Fallen, it was reported that some models had over 5.000 moving pieces, with Devastator being the worst offender, having over 10.000, so the animators only rendered the parts that were directly shown to the point of view.
This was one of the reasons the models were simplified and given a more slim and human look from the 4th movie onward, so they were easier to transform and animate, yet the transformation scenes remain in low quantities, there were definitely more of those sequences in Age of Extinction and Last Knight, the simplified models were also made so audiences could actually tell wat was going on during the fights, since it was often that people wouldn't be able to tell the transformers apart when they were tangled into fistcuffs in addition of the damn shaky cameras that tried to emulate the "point of view of a human observer"
And if you guys think that Megatron was denied of his vehicle mode here, think on Shockwave, who had a vehicle mode as a 4-tread tank and he never transformed in this movie, also he got even less than half of the screentime of Megatron and just two lines of dialogue.

Out of all the Transformers movies this design for Megatron is my favorite he just looks so evil and menacing I also love that he wears a hood to hide his scars all hail megatron.
What's really impressive are the materials used on OP's windshield and windshield visor. OP's arm was ripped of, and his windshield chest doesn't even have scratch, the visors are still attached.

I enjoy how Megatron is beaten and broken in this film. He is tired of fighting after years of failure and tragedy and the only thing left he focuses on is rebuilding Cybertron. He is so tired that he even restrains from killing Carly, because it would grant him nothing. It would just certify her words of him being the underdog that is controlled by Autobots. I think that he longed at this point in time for peace with Optimus. He found out what it is like to be ruled over by a tyrant and realized that it felt better to just cooperate with his brother rather than wage this senseless war. He may dislike humans and thinks low of them, but at this point he would give up on trying to enslave them and just move on with other cybertronians. And once he finally gives up and is ready for truce, he gets annihilated by Optimus, and honestly? For a good reason. He already backstabbed him once and even killed him successfuly. Optimus has zero reason to trust him. Which is something that falls onto his own head. If only he commited to peace sooner rather than later. It was his time to go.

A better ending for Megatron: When Cybertron implodes, he is so horrified to see this and feels responsible. He then apologizes to Prime for everything and throws down his rifle. A jet flies by and Megatron scans it, transforms into it, and flies away in self-exile. In the sequels, he is possessed by Unicron and redubbed Galvatron. Optimus has faith that the repentant Megatron still lives and finds a way to reprogram him. They then team up to stop Unicron.
