Solved USB Not Detected NodeMCU ESP8266- Drivers issue

- Let’s learn how to fix USB not detected to computer or COM port is not working with NodeMCU ESP8266. Since there are two versions of NodeMCU, its possible sometimes windows could not recognize USB devices. Usually, this issue can be resolved by using good quality USB Cable and installing drivers of CH340 and CP2102 chip.

Thank you so much, for the esp32 wroom 32e I was having trouble connecting it to arduino ide and by following this along with holding down the boot button while the arduino was connecting to the esp32 through the new port I was able to start working on my project through my personal laptop, thank you again!

Worked for me! Another thing that you could of mentioned, some boards will only work if you click upload on arduino, then wait for the "connecting......" to show up on the console, then you must immediately hold the bottom right button until you see stuff being written to it (in the micro usb port facing down orientation).

Universal drivers are not useless, you need to right click on device in device manager and click update drivers and select that universal drivers folder so that it can pickup the drivers and install

i did everything but i see the port as obscrated and it doesn't detect anything i tried with 3 different esp32 and 3 different usb cables

Hi, please then try with other micro USB cable. Make sure the cable support data and power both. Usually, if you use micro usb cable which is only used for power. If drivers have installed properly then with good quality of USB cable your NodeMCU ESP8266 will surely recognize in device manager. Good luck and best wishes!

Hi, please check if in device manager you can find Port Section. Sometime in some computer serial unknown serial devices will show up in ports section. if not then use other Micro USB cable and try again. I hope this may help. Good luck and best wishes!

That blinking of on-board LED on NodeMCU has no significance. Please do check device manager if you're NodeMCU ESP8266 got COM Port detected by laptop. If so then select right COM Port for NodeMCU while uploading code.

There is no other devices option in my laptop
I dont get the exclamation in device manager nor can the win 11 PC see the board com port. I can't connect to it. And yes I installed the CH341SER driver too 64 bit version . no joy.

i installed all the drivers you mentioned but it shows that the drivers are pre installed and still the esp is not being detected

You can try with other Micro USB Cable to connect NodeMCU ESP8266 with Laptop. NOTE: Make sure the quality of cable will be good. I have seen some cheap and low quality USB cable also cause this issue if not OS of computer. Wish you good luck!

Hey man i did everything shown in video and i did change cables 5 to 6 times the esp8266 is blinking then connect to laptop but its not being detected and when m uploading in it an error of saying smthing like error time out or no device connected(i.e esp)
I tried the rst button too flash one too
Even tried to upload the lower and stable version and also higher ones
The error is same

I had the same problem but I choose another cable and then it works. You should make sure that your cable can transfer data.

Usually, the RESET button can be found on NodeMCU board and not on Arduino IDE

i tried the same procedure but communication port com 3 still shows a yellow sign n in ardeuino, port option is still greyed out..any other solution?

i have installed this but my node mcu esp 8266 modules blue light is not blinking, i mean it just flikered at the start when i connected it to my laptop but then the light was gone. but when i connected some other devices to it like an led light it gets switched on. pls help
Hi Gaurav, the blue LED don't light up or blink by default. There may be possibility on already some code running on your ESP8266. i have installed the cp210x but that yellow sign is still there and i am faceing "A fatal esptool.py error occurred: Write timeout" error please help me to fix it

Please make sure to Install Windows drivers for CP2102 or CH341. Avoid installing Universal Drivers from their website. They seems to be not working these days. I hope this may help. Good luck and best wishes!

No matter what I do, it keeps telling me that it has failed to start. Can you please help? I am getting very desperate. I am on windows 10, I have installed and tried every cp210x driver.
And also when I install the drivers, it does not automatically show up in the Device Manager. I have to press on "add legacy hardware" and then choose to manually add in the driver.

@@mashaelAlmohsen yeah, I changed the cables and it worked. It's because some cables don't have datalines and are purely for charging. I had a box of cables lying so I just kept on trying cables until I found one that worked
My LED does not turn on at all with 1 of them, my other 1 works flawlessly not sure whats going on, would appreciate any help - its not the cable :(
Hi Fadi, its possible by default your LED is OFF. Please try to upload the code in NodeMCU ESP8266 and test. LED status doesn't matter much.....

Hi Shahid, will be happy to know which battery you are using to power-up ESP8266. I mean what is specification (mAH). If battery doesn't provide enough current then ESP8266 will not connect to WiFi. As device consume more power when connect to internet ans battery may not provide sufficient power.

Hi Siddarth, try with good quality USB Cable and make sure proper drivers are installed. USB Cable found to be issue in 90% cases otherwise try with other good quality NodeMCU ESP8266 in case you're module is broken for some reason while experimenting. Good luck and best wishes!
