Everyone here giving Lars shit for his drumming but it needs to be pointed out that he's not out of time here, there's just a slight delay between what's coming out of the speakers that's been processed and the actual live sound of the drums that the camera is picking up. I have first hand experience with this. I seen Metallica at Slane Castle in the pit and the sound was great but as soon as they came out for the encore on the walkway where they were within spitting distance of me I could hear both the actual live drums right in front of me as well as coming out through the P.A. and there was a slight delay. Not to mention I have a background in sound engineering and a small delay is to be expected, especially if what you're hearing coming out of the PA has to account for travel around a stadium (depending on where you are in relation to any particular line arrays or what have you.) That's why it sounds so out of time from the guitars here. The phone camera is only picking up the live drums in front of him but the guitars are being heard after going through the desk and out through the P.A. Not to mention also having a lot of reverb rom the stadium on top of them. I'm not here defending Lars, but it's important to note from a technical standpoint why this sounds "out of time."
He doesn’t suck at his craft, it’s just his craft is managing a band, as opposed to keeping time in a band.
Yeah. Never tell somebody how to play their own songs. Especially when they are wildly successful.
He is an entertainer through and through. As a metal drummer myself, I can play more technical, but I could never match his energy. Or those parts (writing them)… he is a legend.
ok....him giving out the sticks was REALLY cool.
lars`s drumming is sad but true
Amen
I don't get it, whats wrong with it?
This is fucking Rad !! Lars kicking ass and hell yes to the US AF \m/
In a recent interview Lars said he dropped about 20 lbs getting in shape for this tour.
Love the way he checks out if cameraman enjoys it
I gotta save up to see them in NY/NJ
Do it
Those are the longest sticks I've ever seen
Short arms need long sticks
It's lars who is small. Makes the sticks look bigger.
Best drummer on this stage. I'm pretty sure.
Pretty sure his drum tech is wayyyyyy better.
Imagine being one of the most legendary musicians of all time and being forced to read comments from fucked musicians on Instagram and TH-cam lol
Lars legendary drummer? LoL.
Awesome job!!
Not only is Lars MetallicA's drummer but he's also the in-house arranger. Some of their biggest songs/riffs wouldn't be the same if it wasn't for Lars. I never take anyone seriously if they like to talk shit about Lars.
Tempo is like the ocean.
When I started playing drums, I learned by playing Metallica songs..... Whatever that means.
You know you're a crappy drummer when you need to have a butt-kicker strapped to the bottom of your drum throne so you can play in tempo.
well spotted.
Thank you for sharing 👍🏻
Can’t wait to see them in Dallas in August.
Is he the best drummer ever?....No, is he a sick ass drummer and an absolute legend? You bet your ass.
So are the other 3 just absolute masters of constantly adjusting to Lars' inconsistent tempos?
James is the metro in this band. Lars is there just for sound effects.
2:34 Damn, wtf was that fill? Yikes.💀
Yeah that was a rough one lmao
Its perfectly in time. tapa a 4/4 under it. its kind of nutty syncopation but it works!
2:35 pretty good fill from Lars
Also the new kit(s) are fn awesome, I want one 😂

Great to hear the natural drum sound!
Love Lars nod to the guy in the beginning who’s in the Air Force. I’m Army currently deployed in the Middle East, got tickets for the M72 tour, hoping I can catch these guys at Sofi when I get back 🥲
To all his haters. He’s the drummer in Metallica, and you’re not.
and he's the worst drummer in all Metallica ! ask James and Kirk !
What even is your point?
@@matthewprather189 My point is there are a lot of bitter and jealous people in the world.
@@monkswhiskers3354 I dont wanna be a professional musician so no Im not jealous, if anything, Im glad Im not as bad as he is. Money, Fame or not, him being in a famous band doesnt mean he is the reason its famous...
@@bottomtext251 got some bad news for you child -> it is one of the main reasons.

Oh christ,this is hilarious 😂
The best !! Lars is a killer drummer with personality, attitude and passion for amazing music! Nails the pocket each and every time!
Envious doesn't even come close!!
Honestly hope everyone had a great time!
For all those who are throwing shit at lars out of ignorance: The drums will always be heard a little before the instruments coming out of the speakers, you can check dozens of videos where the drummer is being recorded and I can tell you that it is always the same. Don't be naive.
As an example, go see Kai Hahto's drumcams with Nightwish, it's always the same, but then in the mix it all sounds good.
mains, monitors, in ears .latency, echo, delay, reverb... No matter what aspect of live sound technology taking consideration Lars is still goes off tempo, and plays out of time.
Music isn’t a contest. Music is art. Art is subjective. That band worked hard on their art. P.S. I’m not really a fan of Metallica but I certainly respect what they were able to accomplish.
@@Shmeeby9411I am
When you have told anyone you are military in 5 minutes….
How is this related?
Да Ларс красавчик, кто бы что не говорил!!!! Металлика - это кайф!
great video , thank you ….I love seeing anything Metallica related
sad but true
I Miss the Legendary White Drums Set
Not defending him, but there seems to be a lot of delay between the audio through the PA, and him hitting the drums ... he'll be hearing it in nearer time through his in ears ... I think its always going to sound out of time here because you're hearing the drums before you hear the rest of the music ... that may be throwing him off aswell, who knows. These stupid stages they play on are not conducive to playing well, if they set up like a normal band on a normal stage it would be tighter....he also is a better drummer in his head than he is with his hands and feet.... this is classic drummer who never practices expecting to still be able to play like he played 30-40 years ago...
He's monitoring the band on time through his earphones. It's a must.
@@Texturas75Lars is, but this video is hearing stuff from multiple times
Great video. I’ve always wondered if his lips get chapped.
I love you Lars❤❤❤❤❤
did these comments forget about lars drums in the 80s and 90s? Hes just getting old and doesnt practice lol
Give 'em credit. They've been playing live since they were 18.... 40 years ago.
Longevity kids, respect it.
Someone gave him Ritsu's kit, lmao.
In all seriousness tho, yellow looks good on drums.
💯% love Lars Ulrich 🇩🇰 💯% love Metallica 🖤🤘💯% hilsen fra Danmark 🇩🇰🤘
Someone should tell James that Lombardo is available
Lars is a drummer
nah really I thought he played violin
So so
Amazing showman. Great song arranger. Good drummer when he wants to be.....his improvising and lack of discipline ruins his performances but oh well still the best band ever
Best and nicest way to put it
@@lexdipadova5098 Thank you sir. He ruins certain songs for me, like Sanitarium and Nothing Else Matters, with constant improvising and overplaying. I wish he played like he did at Woodstock 99 and that time period, it was tasteful and solid
