Bless your heart Adrian. The moment I started this vid I remembered this song and can't believe it never occurred to me to learn it and now I absolutely have to. And since a few songs in my repertoire are in open E, it's absolutely perfect. Many thanks for the unique stuff you do.
Thank you… I fell away from trying to learn guitar about 18 months ago, I stumbled on your 10 alternative beginner songs, I’ve not enjoyed myself for so long… Really enjoyed seeing this tuning you are using, sounds lovely and you make it so easy to understand, thank you again for resparking my interest and enjoyment, brilliant stuff 👍👏
Hello Adrian, I'm aware of some of the open tunings but you really opened my eyes. I need to investigate open tunings further. I'm a bit Antiquated as I just use the open e at times. You are definitely one of my favorite people to learn from and I appreciate your great videos. You explain things clearly, thank you for that... Randy, Great North Woods Michigan
Nice job teaching this. You've given me some ideas to try out on my tricone. I like John Pearse on acoustics but they are bright for about 2 weeks. 6 months (or more) they are still good :) I'm not familiar with Roy Harper but listening to this tune reminds me of the series "The Detectorists". Thanks for a great lesson & Keep on Pickin ♫
@@trevorhoward2254 You would be better at it than me, I bet! I’m suffering from post-dental gloom, and an on top of that 2020 through now hates me and I wanna cry.
By far the biggest benefit of playing in Open D is that it has so much less stress on the guitar neck than say, Open E. & You can always go up to Open E by using a capo on the 2nd fret.
Great song, great lesson! I like to play a song called "Das Loch in der Banane" (in english "The hole in the banana" from Klaus Weiland. It's also in an open D tuning and has a similar vibe.
Thanks for the video. However, I do wish more time was spent on the picking pattern. It’s actually pretty easy to see the chord shapes and melody pattern (which you also describe), but i find it much harder to see the picking pattern going on.
Ooh are there perhaps any slide lesson on the horizon? If so I cant wait! I love standard tune slide, Johnny Marr and also Brian Bell from weezer have done some great lead slide playing. And of course the genius George Harrison.Cheers!
Ive been struggling get a recorded acoustic sound as good as yours here. can you tell us what mic(s) you used and where you placed them? any particular effects or compression advice would be wonderful
Can you suggest some acoustic guitars? Or any advice? I don’t live near any guitar stores so kinda have to order online and hope it jives. I have nice electrics but only couple cheap acoustic guitars. It’s much more enjoyable to play on nice guitar.
Hi--you didn't actually ask me, but I just bought an acoustic after playing only my two electrics for years. I knew nothing about them, but a @PaulDavids had a couple videos about acoustic shapes and tonewoods which helped me a lot, and then I ran across a bunch of excellent Martin demo videos from @MaurysMusic. I ended up ordering a left-handed copy of Adrian's Martin 00-15m from Maury's which arrives today! Highly recommend these videos for any acoustic novices such as myself.
@@cskueny Thanks for input. I did buy a used Yamaha FGX800C for now, but no doubt will buy a Martin or something sooner than later. Have fun, must be a joy
No one did more with open D tuning than Berry Gibb of the Bee Gee's. How many of those songs have a basic form and sound around strumming of chords in open D. Take away the lead guitar, and all the fancy instruments and the basic Bee Gee's sound is chords strumming in open D. s s
Interesting comment, thanks. I'm a Bee Gees fan, and was dimly aware Barry used open tunings, but didn't know he used open D so extensively. Might to have to investigate this for a future video...
Hats off to Adrian!
You are a brilliant guitarist and a top shelf instructor!
Agreed! Amazing playing and song selection is above it all.
My favorite open tuning. More videos on open tunings please.

I have used dropped D and open E before but never thought about a D! Thanks again for keeping things moving in different directions!!
Great tone great job
Another great video Adrian
Not enough is said about open D. Wonderful that you did a video on this tuning.
You are a good guitar tutor, good presentation, thank you.
I’ve always been enchanted by open d and drop d tune. You as always, do it justice.
One of the best open D lessons i ever watched on TH-cam!
Thank you, Adrian, sounds beautiful!
"Can be quite inspiring", and, for me, intimidating. But that's why I'm here, to get past that with your fine instruction. Thanks, Adrian.
Brilliant stuff Adrian. I haven’t seen anyone give the suggestions to explore the tuning and neck as you did. Great lesson!
Thank you…

Good tutorial and great to see The Great Roy Harper covered, nice one. : )
Your choices never cease to amaze me.
Lovely, hats off to Roy Harper!
Terrific Lesson Adrian! I truly appreciate all of your guitar videos and music theory references.
Nice easter egg Adrian. Outshined, for anyone who doesn't want to spend all day googling Soundgarden songs like I did.

Very lovely
Just wanted you to know you are my favourite tutor and to say much much much appreciated.😁
Sublime! Well thought out and explained; will take another look at Vestapol;

Great! I really enjoy open D and your video is most welcome :) Cheers!
Thank you
Great stuff, thanks so much.
Thank you.
You sir is a genius, Stray1 Britain’s best Unknown stuntman that never was,
Thank you so much ! (again)
real good voice and playing the guitar ...
For goodness' sake, do Roy's 'Highway Blues'. For me, one of the most audacious pieces of singing and a dead cool guitar part.
Pull it together, Trevor! Want us to tune your guitar for you, too? ; p

Great lesson - much better than mine 😄. I watched the whole video in spite of my knowledge of the song. Cheers!
You can hear John Fahey in that opening. Nice
Lovely intro.
By far the biggest benefit of playing in Open D is that it has so much less stress on the guitar neck than say, Open E. & You can always go up to Open E by using a capo on the 2nd fret.
We're getting into John Fahey territory here. It's my favourite tuning outside standard.
Cool.

Beautiful song, a bit more complicated than this one, good luck!
Beautiful lesson, thank you (000-15M is the best!)
But he's a playing a 00 like James Bond.
Love open chord tunings , check out The Headmaster Ritual (E) and Cemetry Gates (G) by The Smiths
Adrian's Headmaster Ritual lesson is excellent - really fun to play.
Magnificent!
Maybe some slide guitar to spice it up?
Love your 15m series. Can't tell if it's an 00 or 000, but I've been trying to get my hands on one.
Adrian is a true Renaissance Man! True, he's dressed like a cat burglar, but I suppose it's appropriate, as he's tip toed his way into our hearts.
I'd love to know more about the guitar he's playing.
I like your Martin Guitar is it a HPL love the sound and size. Hope it is that is my price range. 😊
Vestapol tuning yey!
Love the acoustic lessons Adrian..,....using my Martin 00-15 burst to play along......may I ask what gauge strings you are using?

Yes, not really done a proper slide lesson before. Will try and do it in the New Year!
Slide guitar lesson no. 1: Make sure you have the right size for your finger before use (speaking from experience...)
👍
Hi, thanks for another great lesson, may have missed it but what gauge strings are on the guitar.
Can you tell us how you're recording the sound of these sessions?
any chance of a NICK Harper tutorial?
Ive been struggling get a recorded acoustic sound as good as yours here. can you tell us what mic(s) you used and where you placed them? any particular effects or compression advice would be wonderful
Is it possible to have the strings tuned to a power chord so you don't need to worry about the third when playing slide?
Alternately, could you just tune to a minor chord and then just raise the third for majors?
Electronic switch cleaner or Bacterial spray can both instill new life into old strings.
Can you suggest some acoustic guitars? Or any advice?
