Are Chinese Silver Pandas Worth the Premium?

  • If you are a collector or lover of Chinese Silver Pandas then you probably already know that they carry a heavy premium. This video is my opinion on Chinese Silver Pandas and I talk about the pros and cons of them as a silver coin. I show off the 2019 Chinese Silver Panda as well as the others ones I own. The Chinese Silver Panda was one of the first silver coins that I bought and I do like the designs. I would love to know that you think of the Chinese Silver Panda Coins from a silver stacking stand point and from the silver collecting stand point. Thanks for watching!

    I love panda's and I do collect them for 10 years now. For me it's no problem that the are 30 grams, because we have a metric system over here in Europe aswell (ounces is more an american thing). And to be honest it's only 1.1 grams of silver, that's nothing.
    About the mintage, yes 10 million is a high number, but still much lower then the silver eagles (over 40 million) and if you look at the population of china (almost 1.4 billion) it's not that much. If only 1% of the Chinese start to collect panda's you will have a problem!!! The premium might be higher then a silver eagle, but the value goes up much faster aswell. I can still buy a 2006 silver eagle for $24 but a panda from the same year will cost you at least $75.
    Panda's are collector coins, just like any other bullion round with a fiat number on it. If you just want to stack silver you can better buy silver bars, much closer to spot price then any fiat round, that are struck for collectors (no exceptions)

    It would be a terrible choice to stack these. But you’re right, they’re fun to collect. Awhile back, I found a 1987 gold panda, which was the only year they did mint marks, so I got a Shanghai mint mark which I thought was kinda cool. Some of the silver designs are nice, some are not imo. Perfectly fine and fun for collecting, not stacking.

    You know man, if i knew nothing about silver or stacking and someone just laid out in front of me ALL the bullion coins that came out that year from every mint and said Choose One.....Pandas, Kooks, Kangaroos, Eagles, Maples, Libertards and more.....i can honestly say that the Panda would be up there and that i'd instantly be drawn to it. It's a beautiful design. Artistic. Great likeness of a Panda. I think they're definitely worth the premium. That being said, I'd never buy a tube of them or get more than one per year while i feed my monster box with tubes of Maples.

    One thing you didn´t tell is that the other bullions come in a tube of 20-25 pieces,

    I like the Pandas, and think that they are a really pretty coin. I wouldn't buy them to stack them, however. For me, I stack the ASE and Maples. But, from a collectors POV, I like the designs and the fact that they change every year. Currently, I have 5, 2015-2019, and plan on buying 1 each year. If I can find a good deal I will pick up the earlier dates, but some of those get a little outside my budget, lol. Who knows, maybe one day we won't be able to get them so easily.

  • @EthanParmetItsDaBunny
    @EthanParmetItsDaBunny 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think that it may be better to get the whole series, as it has a huge premium for selling them, since the earlier ones are really hard to come by (for a price under a thousand especially for the 1983/4) I think that if people want to collect the pandas, there is no problem with that, and they still have a lower mintage than the silver eagles, at about 40 million.

    First of all, premium on Silver Pandas is high everywhere, not only in US. In Poland Silver Panda costs around 90 PLN, while usual silver 1-ounce bullion coins like Maple Leaf / Kangaroo / Philharmoniker / Brittania / Krugerrand / Eagle are all between 70 and 73 PLN.
    In my opinion Silver Pandas are a good option as one-off coins. They keep the collection interesting, they are unique and pretty, and that's why I plan to keep buying one Panda each year. They are similiar in this regard to other coins with moderate premium and rather high mintages (like Koalas, Kookaburas, Oriental Brittanias, Incuse Maple Leafs, Lunar Year Coins): in all these cases you get an interesting and distinctive coin at the cost of higher premium. If you only care about the mass of your silver, do not buy any of these coins. Also, if you're buing coins and hoping they will have much higher numismatic value in the future, these coins are also no the best of ideas (very low mintage coins are better for that).
    But if you like collecting nice things in addition to just accumulating silver Pandas are definately a thing to consider.

    Now in 2022 have no premiums at all. It is an oz! 🤣 is .999 the IS is different on which country you are. I consider this better for Silver Stacking.

    Good info. Just started stacking and trying to keep premiums down. However I just got the 2019 Marvel Captain America 1 0z coin for my son on his birthday and paid $27 . Almost $12 over spot. 😬

    If the American Eagle had a different design annually I will guarantee we would be paying a higher premium. Name me one other major country that changes their design annually.
    I believe the panda premium is exacerbated by the retailer. I don’t have problem with any foreign country’s silver/gold coins. If I like them I’ll buy ‘em! Yeah, the 30g’s are annoying but the design change makes me overlook the 1.1035 grams.

    I like the panda for the proof like finish on them and I like the change of the design each year. It’s weird that I’m not worried on the made in China idea with the silver bullion like I am with other things. I definitely don’t think the pure stacker should stake them because of that loss of a gram of silver.
