Every May 1st, Berlin ignites in its annual May Day celebrations, a unique blend of leftist protests, street parties, and open-air raves. Originating from Labour Day, the Berlin celebration takes on a more rebellious tone, especially in the Kreuzberg district, known for its history of clashes between protesters and police. Stemming from events in 1987, May Day in Berlin carries an atmosphere of rebellion and anti-establishment sentiment. The day offers two contrasting experiences: the intense leftist protests and the more peaceful Myfest street party, both converging to create an unparalleled atmosphere of partying and energy. Attendees can expect a mix of Marxist speeches, political chants, and thumping techno music, with opportunities to participate in protests or simply enjoy the festivities. Key locations include Oranienstraße and Görlitzer Park for the street parties, while Kottbusser Tor is a hotspot for protests. However, those seeking a quieter day should steer clear of the area, opting instead for more central neighborhoods like Mitte.

Goa Trance, Psytrance, and Techno are distinctive facets of electronic music, each offering a unique and captivating sonic and cultural experience. Originating in the early 1990s amidst the Goa party scene, Goa Trance carries the spiritual and exotic influences of India within its musical DNA. Characterized by a consistent 4/4 beat, a BPM range typically spanning from 130 to 150, and an intricate blend of melodies, ethereal pads, and exotic instruments, Goa Trance's tracks evoke the serene and mystical vibes associated with Goa's breathtaking beaches.
Psytrance, sharing its roots in Goa but having expanded globally, embraces a broader spectrum of influences, pushing the boundaries of BPM beyond 150. Featuring hypnotic, repetitive rhythms, and evolving soundscapes, Psytrance transcends geographical and cultural boundaries, becoming a cornerstone of dynamic festivals worldwide.
In contrast, Techno emerged from Detroit in the 1980s, embodying minimalism and industrial aesthetics. Defined by a steady 4/4 beat, repetitive motifs, and electronic textures, Techno has firmly established itself within urban and underground settings, typically at a tempo ranging from 120 to 130 BPM. These three genres present diverse musical journeys, appealing to a wide range of tastes and sensibilities, whether seeking spiritual transcendence, psychedelic exploration, or the mechanical allure of urban landscapes

Rave scenes just like this were in Berlin in the 90’s! Seems like they never left they just advanced! It’s great to see. Although the 90’s old skool and hardcore genre will always be my fave. This music is excellent too. 🙌🏼

Nowadays it's just cramped up indoor parties, although there are a few places that have a good combination of indoors for the sound/outdoors for chilling out.
We must keep dancing for Freedom, Joy, Energy, Love and our Divine Destiny!!!

Omg this reminds me of when I traveled to Berlin with my recent ex…BEST decision ever they have the craziest clubs there and I will never forget getting in BERGHAIN 2 weeks in a row!!! It really taught me that you do not need phones to have fun and dance!! be in the moment!!!!!!!! I will never forget him and having really bad anxiety and just pushing myself to travel to there I was a recluse tbh … I will always love him and haven’t dated since I’ll always love him

I live in Oslo and just like you say. The new generatuon of ravers just getting bigger and bigger. I think this have something to do with the shut downs during the pandemic. In Oslo we have 3 forest raves every weekend now and it just growing 🙏

Thanks for the video. I found raves for the first time in 1996. I was stationed in 29 Palms and discovered techno while a guy down the way was blaring it from his barracks room. It was Omaar Santana, Hardcore for the Headstrong I learned afterwards. My brother in arms was happy to find another who appreciated the music and shared other types of techno. I liked the trance best, so he set me up with some weekend raves. I wish I had saved some of the flyers for the others because it would be to see if any recordings were made. Either way, the first was Organic 96' and it blew my mind to see the light shows, videos, and feel the good vibes. It was unlike anything that I had ever experienced. I looked forward to the next one. I had a chance to go to a few in the 3 years stationed there in between deployments. A few jarheads would fill the cooler, fill up the tank and give two $20s to the most trustworthy guy for gas for the ride home and head to San diego, Big Bear, LA, or out somewhere in the desert. It was much safer than across the border in Tijuana and we got in less trouble. We didn't know what we would find when we got there but were excited to go. We were a welcomed addition to all the others enjoying the freedom to listen to amazing music and dance the night away together. What more could you ask for :)
Fast forward to the tailend of the Covid lockdown. I haven't been to a rave in years, I see that Cosmic Gate, Gabriel and Dresden, Karl K-Otic, and Portes are spinning at New City Gas in Montreal. I had cabin fever and so did my lovely wife. So I asked if she wanted to go to a rave in another country. She replied, "sure, why not! It was a lot of hoops to jump through to get into Canada, at that time, but we needed a night out, and I thought a rave would perfect to put Covid behind us. My wife is not the biggest fan of what I listen to and sometimes says that techno gives her agita but she loves me and wanted to experience a rave with me. She loved It and had an amazing time. It was a perfect night and it was so nice to see the movement and scene still alive. We recently spent our 18th anniversary in Montreal for the Carnaval with The Goodboys, Stef Agostino, Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike and many other, wonderful people.
