Restoration of the started in November of 2008 for the Ferry flight from Swartkop Airforce Base, Pretoria, South Africa to her new owners in Waterval, Wallmansthal just north of Pretoria, South Africa.
The ferry flight to off at 07:13 on 4 Dec 2010 and she landed at 07:50 on the makeshift landings strip. The result of the landing were and incredible dust cloud blown up by the reverse thrust!
The pilots were Johan van den Berg and Laurie Raath both at the time from South African Airways and Flight Engineer Mike Mayers.

The Douglas DC-6 is a piston-powered airliner and cargo aircraft built by the Douglas Aircraft Company from 1946 to 1958. Originally intended as a military transport near the end of World War II, it was reworked after the war to compete with the Lockheed Constellation in the long-range commercial transport market. More than 700 were built and many still fly today in cargo, military, and wildfire control roles.

So this is how it's done hmmh
That´s what I call "old school" flying skills. Landing a very manual plane on a strip without any electronic guiding systems or aid, just visual with expert knowledge. Respect ! The pilots got to have balls of steel ! Realy nice video !

My Dad was Chief Pilot of Lanica Airlines in the mid 1970's. I've been in dozens of 6's, and 7's. Some of the finest aircraft ever built.
The people who were pilots in those days were really great.

You are right twinstu50 the helpers and brave pilot did a great job. Congratulation for saving such a masterpiece. I am from Namibia and we have 2 of those lovely birds. (I hope they have not sold them yet). When I was 9 years old I watched them land and take off from Windhoek Airport to Germany and back.....a 10000 km trip. I just LOVE them.
Everything in this sequence is amazing!! Check it out at 00:10: the right main landing gear clears the tree top by not more than 1ft!!! Other than that, the DC-6 is truly a beautiful bird, in spite of its old age. Thx for posting.

That man has tons of Douglas time. Watch him bleed off excess speed and correct
for crosswind over the trees, and then dive for the threshold but with enough speed
left for a perfect flair and touchdown. Truly masterful.

Whew -- made it! His wheels were pretty close to those trees just before dropping in! I've always loved the DC-3 and DC-6, neat old aircraft! My parents sent my older sister and me to our grandparents farm (for the summer) in Kansas from L.A. (Los Angeles) when I was about 6 or 7 years old, probably on a DC-6. I don't remember a lot about it, except that I learned how to say "Albuquerque," which was one of our stops to refuel. I remember the "stewardess" (that's what they called them then) taking my hand and taking me into a terminal, probably to a restroom!) I don't remember if my parents drove us home or what, probably so. Then many years later, when I was a GA pilot, an instructor at my airport had a DC-3 there and I got to take a ride in it -- WOW! -- those engines seemed loud! Great old aircraft. (And I got to see what an advance we had made when I flew in the Concorde in 1984 or so. Amazing!)

You often see these old, beautiful birds flown by real cowbows with little regard for the aircraft, but these pilots fly this plane wonderfully well with a silky-smooth touch.

The two men, and the legion of helpers, are all to be congratulated.

Great landing. I owned a DC6 that we flew to Antarctica to land on bare ice runways. We later switched to Herc and then to IL-76. Great plane, that needs super crew and good pilots to really perform. thanks for sharing

Ok that pilot has skills! He cleared the tree with but 2 meters, and hit the runway right at the beginning. Respect 🙏
nah, that's just optical illusion, he probably cleared them by 50m minimum but probably a whole lot more....if he had only cleared the trees by a few metres he would of been short and collected the power lines in between the trees and the threshold...................but you are right, the pilot does has skills

@CTFlyer7 Thanks, I'm fully aware that the props don't actually reverse their rotation, hence the inverted commas...i just didn't think pistons of that era were designed with a feature that i more commonly associated with turbo-props!..brilliantly timed landing - excellent flying!
