I met Phillip Sayce when he was playing with Jeff Healey band at The Hampton Beach Casino in the mid 90's, putting him him @ 20-21 years old. To say he ripped it up on stage is the ultimate understatement. But my greatest memory was chatting post-show just outside the band bus with Joe, Tom, Phillip, and, eventually Jeff. In the middle of a conversation with Phillip, he got distracted by some excited fan's exuberant adulation and yelled back a gracious reply, only to turn back to me and apologize for the interruption in our conversation. Well he already had me with his guitar skills but to discover how gracious he was as a person has stayed with me ever since. He was extremely humble and thankful that we had come to see the show. His guitar playing spoke for itself. But it was his classiness and affability that were the memories I took home that night!!
+martind56 I met Philip a couple of times after Gigs in 2010 and again in 2012 - he and the band stayed back to meet anyone who wanted to/ sign merch. etc. he remains humble/gracious and both times thanked the audience for turning out.
martind56 Your description of Philip is dead on. I remember becoming friends and he had just added a 59 strat to his collection and brought it out one night. He insisted I played it.. This guy has a big heart, humble and a serious player
Same here , walked in a club near Spadina and Bloor (Toronto) by complete accident in the late 90s, and came out crying... And I am a drummer, not a guitar player ;-)

I have a 1977 Super Lead, Engl Blackmore and Axe Fx but still end up practicing through this most of the time. Got mine when they first came out and updated the firmware which made it even better. I cant say enough about how great this littel cosmic toaster is. Thanks Yamaha!!!!
This is how demoing a practice amp should be. Put a number of pedal in front of it and push it to its limit. Yamaha did a superb job! I'm saving my money to get this little monster
This video just convinced me to stick with my Yamaha THR10 and pedal collection rather than move to a Helix for home use. Outrageous tone, no doubt much of that in his hands.
I recently got one of these, and haven't used it that much. I haven't been so thrilled. But then I just paused this video where it showed his settings. I set mine up that way. Lead channel with gain a bit less than half, and master all the way. Bass and treble in the middle with mid boosted slightly. A touch of spring reverb. And what do you know -- it sounds exactly like this video, without the pedals. Great sound! I think sometimes on amps with a lot of choices, I get too wound up in trying out all the channels and get overwhelmed by them. It's awesome to see how a phenomenal player like Philip Sayce sets this thing. I haven't tried pedals with it yet. I was hoping that I wouldn't need pedals with it. The onboard modulation and delay are pretty decent. But there's no onboard substitute for the overdrive, boost, distortion, fuzz, etc., in my opinion. I'm not that crazy about the high gain channels, at least not yet.
I know this comment comes four years late, but I did the EXACT same thing as you, paused video to check his amp settings, copied them and was blown away with the knowledge that you can have an awesome clean tone even in the lead channel! Now I love this amp even more! I recently purchased a THR30II and was bitterly disappointed by the inferior clean sound of that amp. There's nothing left of that classic THR clean tube tone on the newer version, which is such a shame. :(
Hard not to like Philip Sayce… when he starts playing my jaw is on the floor. Such a humble chill dude too. One of the best on the planet for my money.
The greatest demo man in the business! He makes everything just sound like an alien gunship bluesing in the neighbourhood. Yamaha you need to put this mans talents to use more often!
Philip is an absolute monster. Canada happily sends out into the wild the best hockey players and guitar players. That's because our long winters give both groups of kids A LOT of practice time! :-) Phil was born in Wales but came to Canada when he was two years old to open for Jimi Hendrix. He srnt his gig money to his parents so they could come join him in Toronto.
This amp has a lot of potential. It's amazing that such a little amp can sound so big and have such clarity. I don't care for blues, but it's a great demo. 👍👍👍
I have 4 amps and I must admit the THR10C gets used the most a fabulous small amp with a big sound IMHO worth every penny had mine for nearly 2 years and could not do without it and this guy is a great guitar player and I too have never heard of him I shall correct that now
It has it's own spring ,echo ,hall, chorus ect reverb built it and you can add different sounds through you computer or Iphone oh yes and it is stereo you can use pedals I use lovepedal E6 eternity overdrive , a Flashback TC Electronic, and to night I am using my new Neunaber Immerse Reverberator Pedal that I received yesterday (Monday)and very happy:-) other pedals Dark matter , A mojomojo I use with Marshall DSL 5C , a Fender Blues Junior, I do love to experiment ,if there is anything else you would like to know just ask and best of Luck with your choice Marshall has just brought out a new amp check out Rob Chapman on TH-cam PS. it takes headphone the THR10C if you are in to metal then you need the THR10X
As I understand it, the 10C is a Fender Deluxe Reverb, a Matchless DC30, A Fender Blues Junior, A Marshall Bluesbreaker, and A Dr Z Mini Z. All "low" gain amps. All great blues amps. But when I want to kick it up a notch I want to hit the front end with some drive. So just wondering what you are using to notch it up. I'm thinking of getting a TS808 Re-Issue. As for the Marshall, are you referring to the new CODE50? I love metal, but for now I'm looking for a silky smooth blues tone. I'll gran a 10X when funds allow.
yes it has all that, I confess I don't use it to it's full potential I would think that a TS808 would work ok but I have not got a TS808 for that bit of extra I use the E6 you can probably download a TS808 straight into the THR10C as well as other amps
+valrios86 too true this guy is a tone monster he most likely could make any amp sound great i would have loved to hear what tones he could have got from this amp.as some one looking at maybe buying one this demo give's me nothing i have heard him play through his pedal board many times before.
Ha, the "ambiance" sounds's like the Grand Canyon. Remarkable, I'm in the market for a practice/modeling amp, I gotta find a demo that's got crappy player, this isn't fair.
A reminder that gear can only help but not to create beautiful tone on its own. I got some of the same pedal/ effect and cannot even get these beautiful with a "real" tube amp..... What a great player Philip is.....
he's running through th EP3 preamp like SRV, Hendrix etc. used to. That's going to affect and definitely help the sound. Just think that needs bearing in mind when judging the amp. Still sounds awesome though.
Holy shit Philip Sayce has got some awesome Hendrix vibe going on totally stunning playing!! As for the THR10 ive got one for practising and it is the best amp ever i recon. The Lead setting for me is just spot on and covers all bases for me - cleans up nice with the volume knob on the guitar just like my marshalls!! Epic amp...

There is a reason why the amp's are called Deluxe reverb and Super Reverb. That is what they do. I love to hear someone play the effects like they were designed.
this man could plug into a toaster and make it sound like a million bucks.
He just did..
The yamahah amps are brilliant though
has a pedal that look like a toaster but i think it's a pretty specific pedal board. gutiar too, the amp seems to do the job great too though.
Every morning, he polishes his equipment with sandpaper.
Holy crap... This guy can play. Channeling all the blues rock gods. Hendrix, SRV, Trower. What a demo.

Love him or hate him, he is among the true masters of the Strat.
I love how he's almost lifting up outta the seat cuz he can't contain his fire for playing. Dude is monster
I don't think the amp matters when you are at his standard. It's in the hands.
Of course it matters, sure guys like him and satriani can sound great using anything but he sounds his best using his full touring rig.
