I'm half Chinese and half English and I was just able to start coming out at age 51. My mom passed away on 11/3/2021 and didn't agree and wouldn't have anything to do with the GAY lifestyle. So I've been closeted all these years. Being part Asian I feel hinders me finding the love of my life soooooo much....cause guys are sooooooooo damn picky!!!!! If a guy really got to know me....they'd know they'd have a treasure....a true gem that would love them forever. Thanks for making this movie!!!!!!!!!
Would you be willing to date other Chinese guys or just exclusively white men? I know most gay asians reject and discriminate each other and only want white men.
Hi Troy. I have an opposite problem. I'm a white gay guy who lives in a part of the USA that is 96% white. My last 2 boyfriends were Asian, and it was a miracle that I even found them locally. I would really like to find another Asian boyfriend ...... but the chances seem so slim with each passing year. Perhaps I should move. 😒
Hi. Your first problem is pushing yourself too hard trying to "find someone." [I know, easy to say, but:] Just let it happen "naturally." You might have to go to locations that haven't been familiar to you for the last 5-10 years or try to go where other guys go naturally during their days/nights, like maybe a store of some kind or gathering place for some of those you might like to meet. [I've met someone interesting at the produce area in a grocery store.] [Or maybe a furniture store?] You appear to seek Caucasians primarily [remember this about that category: "Asian" is in that category as much as "whites."] Reevaluate your "absolute choices" for the man you want -- physical and personality. You might just find someone great that could be part Asian as well -- just with facial and body features you prefer -- maybe "white" physical features but also with an [slightly?] Asian temperament. _Anyway, just a suggestion from a "rice queen."_
Gay video stories like this are so much better than when I was young! Thanks for producing this poingant tale. I had a close friend similar to this, then one day he told me not to contact him. It pissed me off and I think he was jealous of the flirring I was doing on line with young men in foreign countries. I'll never know, but it saddens me that we could n't continue to be friends. It also pissed of and I felt like take a salt lamp he had given to me and plop it down in front of him at his favorite Friday night gay bar. In retrospect, he was probably jealous, but I'll never know.
I can understand both guys, when I was 18 I had a friend who was very much into me but I didn't know it. At the same time I was into another guy who also liked me which I did know. He and I dated for almost a year, my friend who liked me told me one afternoon how he felt. I liked him as a friend but nothing else and he couldn't or wouldn't just accept it. I ran into him 2 or 3 years later during that time he got caught up in meth he blamed me for it. I told him nobody can tell their heart what it wants and doesn't want. I heard that friend was found dead in some meth house a few years later.
Yes, that’s all fine and good but in a major city if you were falling in love with someone who’s unavailable and ignoring all of the other opportunities, then the problem is yours. Also, the Asian character seems to have a need for white approval and that is a problem
Ah man... one sided love is just so tough and even more so with Charlie's limited options... I say limited based on his perception, I don't know his actual options. I'd go out on a date with him. ❤
There are way too many Zachs in the gay community today. And there are two ways to deal with them once they enter your atmosphere... either join them in their self-absorbed, narcissistic world and become like them... or learn to recognize the kind of people they are early on, and skip past them quickly before they affect your life in all sorts of negative ways. The pick-up apps are the speedway to a empty road of nothingness.
But never forget, there are many minorities who crave white adjacency. Also, there are many white gay men who loved the power associated with keeping all of the little fireflies around them.
A great short film. Any chance of a follow-up? Unrequited Love is one of the most difficult things to experience. Been there [ both sides of the equation]. And the "no asians" quote was very disheartening. We gays are sometimes our own worst enemies. Thanks for this, even if there isn't a Part Deux! ❤
He is better off without the coke addict..... seemed to be a bum..... move on..... lots of good men out there. It just takes time, and being around others that are good.
U guys nailed it, great acting, cans storyline on point, I know that was hard to open up to someone but at least he can leave it behind and start moving on without regrets, and still don't get the issue with asian guys, they are stunning 🧡
How sad… I remember my best friend….we hang together some times y we always had fun. No sex or kissing. One day he invited me to his mothers house, it was the first time I saw his piano. After we had dinner and saw a movie. Suddenly he kissed me and I was surprised. We didn’t know what to do. After years I know that Jorge and me could have been a great couple! Greetings from Buenos Aires, Argentine!!!❤❤
I've been in both positions. Both brought nothing but heartache for everyone involved. It was complicated and tangled with emotions. At the end I had no part in the decisions because AIDS took all of them away.
Excellent acting in such a realistic story. I've been on both sides of this equasion and it hurts both ways. It sucks to be hurt by someone you're in love with because they don't love you the same way, and it sucks to hurt the friends you love who fall deeply in love with you. But Zach was not very kind to his friend here at all, and that is wrong. It's bad enough that Zach didn't love Charlie the way that Charlie loved him. But then to be so cold and dismissive to Charlie makes it even worse. Zach needed to be more gentle, kind and understanding with Charlie. I'd love to give Charlie a huge hug.
Charlie can do so, so much better than Zach. I mean, it's one thing to have a crush on a really great person and it hurts when they don't love you back. But to become obsessed with a narcissistic drug abuser like Zach is just f'ed up. Move on and find someone better.
There’s two things at play in this film. There’s the issue of unrequited love but there’s also the question/issue being is the unrequited love because of Charlie being Chinese? He appeared to be compatible with Charlie in all respects except for race…. Racism within the gay community is real….
@Unicorn, “these days” began a very long time ago. I attended parties in the late 50’s where weed, coke, Quaaludes, amphetamines, heroin, and the ancient antecedent of all recreational drugs, alcohol, were as commonplace as the casual drug use portrayed in this film. The potency, variety, popularity, and acceptance of recreational drug use has increased in each of the seven decades since. I honestly don’t recall when it wasn’t a “part of the scene”. Drugs can lead to death and other tragic outcomes, that hasn’t changed since our first human ancestor ate a magic mushroom and walked off a cliff. ☮️💟
Good film, just feel like this is played out, because yt passing and yt adjacent also chase after White guys like they are gods gift. 9 times out of 10
Do not confess love to your friends It is possible that they may not have the same feelings for you, so you will become distant and lose each other . Agreed. Gay movies that incorporate smoking and drugs just play into tired old stereotypes. Does the gay community feature smoking and substance abuse? .... Yes, but those are the self-destructive gays, with a death wish to shorten their lives. No better that the self-loathing gays and homophobes. They should not be featured or celebrated on film.
It is not very convincing given that the actor playing Charlie can probably have a lot of people. But then again, he likes what he likes. He only has eyes for cute white guys. So what is the point?

by "picky" you mean "racist"?
When respect is no longer being served, leave the table.
Your worth is important; your pride is more important; your dignity is priceless.
Nice little film. Falling for someone who doesn't feel the same is a tough pill. But as Zach said, he can't help who he's attracted to.
It just screamed of the Asian character need for white adjacency
@@TrueWordsRSpoken LOL
Give me Charlie any day, way more interesting and attractive than the other two.
My thoughts exactly.
I totally understand how hard to go thru messy breaking up the relationship like that. Just one mistakes lead to another.
Ehhhhhhhh I mean the guy DID message him earlier. It’s not like he was just causing problems out of nowhere

Sadly very real
Isn't "banana" considered an insult to Asians, like calling a black person an "oreo"?
That's what I always thought.
Lost in unexplained drama.
congratulations! it's very nuanced and realistic. Will there be more of this story?

The guy drinks smokes weed and does coke, he ingnored all the red flags.
what the hell did I just watch?
It seems these days doing drugs has become quite normalised in society or am I being very naïve?
It does seem that way. Every where you look it looks like everyone is doing it. But don't use that as a reason for you to start doing it as well.
No, you're right
