  • Bloomberg TV's Stephen Engle sits down with Carrie Lam in one of the last interviews of her tumultuous term as Hong Kong Chief Executive. Her five years in office were marred by mass street protests, the imposition of a national security law that tightened Beijing’s grip, and a pandemic response that undermined the city’s international status. Lam tells Engle she has nothing to apologize for to the Hong Kong people.

What a terrible leadership example: repeats failure after failure, never accepts ownership and always finds a way to blame others. Good riddance

This candid interview is absolutely incredible. Props to the interviewer for asking the "hard" questions while not stepping over the boundary. And credits to the interviewee for stepping up to the challenges of answering them. There were definitely some gut-wrenching questions that she couldn't avoid and she knew they were coming yet she agreed to the interview nonetheless. Hopefully when she steps down, she can have a good rest with her family because nobody should be destroyed for their political career because in my bias opinion, I believe she'd really wanted the best for the country but she was unexpectedly overwhelmed with juggling both the passionate hk youth and the might prowess of the ccp

Maybe this situation,on the long run is good for west. At the end Communist will always mess up ( corruption, ).
Problem would be if main China would adopt Hong Kong or Taiwan version of governance.
10-20 years China would rule the world.
Leave to peasants in Giorgio Armani suits ( mainland) to mess up.

HK will always listen to Beijing and serve HK people as it’s a part of China and special admin. with much international respect and a unique, free, powerful financial system and money flow in and out 24/7. It’s what diversity truly is and whoever tries to weaponize their whatever beliefs, sacrificing other jobs and lifestyles, booming down the street is NOT freedom to me, more of KKK uniting in hard mode.

Sometimes governments ignore serious issues, and sometimes they hurt people. The public should be allowed to say something about that. It doesn't have to be about people yelling in the streets and going crazy. They just need a way to interact with the system and address grievances. Hong Kong lost that. Now they have no freedom. They have to do what they're told, shut up and take it, and there's nothing they can do about it. You're shortsighted.

A very good interview. I think Carrie Lam answered all the questions very well. Hong Kong is part of the People's Republic of China and the people of Hong Kong to accept the unique one country two system. Living in harmony will bring prosperity. Mass protest and violence targeting Carrie Lam will not help Hong Kong.
