I am for Africans, and I love how Rutendo just ignores the fact that we did not go to Zim in large numbers. We got our independence last and had no time to heal regroup and start building the South African dream for our black people. South Africans are generous at heart and currently we live with a lot of Zims that have a share on the small pie or crumbs falling from the main table, even eating from the effort that our parents died for while working the apartheid system. South Africans stayed home in large numbers to defend and defeat the system. We are currently helping Zims and our Kids are sharing crowded classes with their kinds and I think its time now for them to go rebuild their country and make it work. While on our side… heal, regroup, and try again to resolve our economic issues factoring the delay that we had. We really need to fix our country and be proud for the future left behind.

    I don’t know, I’m worked up by this conversation…
you don’t need to have a reasonable understanding or criteria of anything when you want to express your opinion about what must happen in your home (country in this context). We are grateful for Zimbabwe’s help, and in kind I think our ANC government has played their part to express that gratitude to Zimbabwe and other African states that assisted, but that in no way obliges us to continue to take on or accept a situation where illegal foreign nationals must be accommodated when we as South Africans aren’t ok (take care of home first).
I’m sure in his home when he’s child has what to him is a reasonable complaint he will prioritise it over the kids that are visiting…
I don’t know but honestly I feel when you have an agenda to peddle you have a very narrow outlook and fail to take on the argument on the other side… worth while conversation I guess esp the cape independence part (which is what I wanted to watch this for) but honestly Rutendo I feel walked in with an agenda and if it was ruffle up feather then he dot it from me…

Gayton is a doer. He may not be an eloquent speaker but he gets things done. This guy can sit around and talk all day because those who admire him are content with being paid lip service and don't have the fortitude to demand tangible results. Hence, his country looks the way it does, despite his socalled "knowledge" and his people are scattered all over the world, begging others for rights and opportunities they can't get at home. Maybe, one day, those who admire him will mature enough to demand more from him than a "history lesson".

Why does Rutendo want to claim monotony on the 'desire to see Zimbabwe prosper'?
Why does Rutendo ignore the FACT that Zanu PF has called on the UN to sanction Ian Smith's Rhodesia? Why would this now be an issue when the opposition does the same?
Penual why don't you accommodate alternative narratives on Zimbabwe? In fact why don't you visit ordinary Zimbabweans in Zimbabwe [you don't require a visa - at best you may need a clearance to go in a a journalist] to see how people are living?
Saviour Kasukuwere is in SA and he could shed plenty of light with regards to where things have gone wrong in Zimbabwe.
FYI great podcast and kudos to you Penuel for putting pertinent issues concerning the progress of Africa on the table. Despite what others may think of Rutendo [even a broken clock tends to be 100% correct at least twice a day] he is a Zimbabwean and deserves his flowers for standing against the illegal sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe. Sadly we live in a society that is polarised to such a toxic extent that we become blind and deaf towards accommodating alternative views.

But I'd argue that much of the majority also don't know much about politics because those in charge have ruined this nation, and who keeps them in power? The sensible few are for some reason not getting enough support as those who are clearly just big mouth communists who live in luxury while the people they claim to fight for only continue to experience worsening situations, are the ones getting all the votes. So people seem to be attracted to assholes and liers because they themselves don't actually know how to distinguish wise and educated, from fools, because that in itself requires good education and our education system is in the top 5 for the worst in the world.

Zim did not go to war for SA. That is a false narrative. You realize that Penuel has no facts in front of him to challenge your narrative. Yes, Zimbabwe did support the African National Congress (ANC) in its fight against the apartheid government of South Africa. Zimbabwe provided military training, weapons, and other forms of assistance to ANC guerrilla fighters during the apartheid era. Zimbabwe's involvement included hosting ANC guerrilla camps, providing military training facilities, and offering support to ANC operatives. While Zimbabwe did not directly engage in armed conflict against the apartheid government of South Africa, its support was instrumental in the ANC's struggle against apartheid. Zimbabwe is not the only country that helped black South Africans. The entire world did. In fact the SADC region plus AU were largely ignored when they tried to raise the voice until the global community put pressure on the apartheid government, dropped sanctions on them and then apartheid government yielded. We owe Zimabwe nothing. Our companies are invested in Zim and make that corrupt government millions if they really believe we owe them something.

Lies. The South Africans who stayed in camp were MK and APLA, other South Africans were out and about working as lecturers (Bra Keotopatse Kgotsisiele, Eskia Mphahlele), nurses, working for NGOs. Julius Nyerere of Tanzania gave the ANC land, and they built the Solomon Mahlangu college in Morogoro, Tanzania. The ANC built a primary and secondary schools, set up a farm and hospital. The IMF and World Bank (which are tools of the West), began to refuse to extend loans to the Tanzania and Zambian govts; thru deliberately tanked the economies of these 2 African countries because of their support for the anti-apartheid movement.
Tanzania aside, the NIGERIANS did a lot to fight Apartheid, they lost BILLIONS of DOLLARS because they refused to trade oil with countries that were trading with Apartheid South Africa, a little school girl was so hurt by what was happening in South Africa she started saving her lunch money to see if she could send the money to South Africa to help Black people, other students joined in, when the govt heard, the President set up the Mandela Fund (every government worker was deducted 2% from their salary to put towards the fund), President Obasanjo and his ministers also donated thousands of dollars to the fund. South Africans exiles in Nigeria were allowed to attend university in Nigeria for FREE. Tom Mboya of Kenya was instrumental in helping uMam Miriam Makeba obtain diplomatic documents so that she could travel, the first country she travelled to after obtaining those papers was Kenya, after performing in Kenya she travelled to Tanzania to celebrate their independence.
South African exiles were travelling the world on different African PASSPORTS. President Zuma held a Somali passport! Issuing someone with a passport is no joke, because if they go and cause a problem in another country whilst travelling on your passport it can cause a diplomatic incident.
Mozambicans, Angolans, Namibians, Zimbabweans fought against the Pretoria regime, and refused them to advance their agenda in the region and domestically. The Pretoria regime retaliated by blowing up clinics, roads, railways in SADC region, by the time Apartheid fell, the different countries in the SADC region had a debt of 13 BILLION pounds, and South Africa had a debt of 11 BILLION pounds from this WAR. The ANC was made to pay back 25 BILLION POUND DEBT accrued by the Apartheid regime.

      Hello brother
a child of the soil can never be a foreigner within the continent
that’s a European notion used to mentally alienate us from each other💪🏾
I get your intention through the message though

Proudly declaring you have a "foreigner friend" , is just like whites saying "I even have a black friend". Africans are not foreigners in SA

And also Rutendo speaks of the ANC going into other countries because they were being attacked by the apartheid government, not black South Africans as a whole. Are the illegal foreigners here in South Africa, exiled politicians or are they individuals who contribute greatly to crime as well as the financial displacement of our people??

A lot of food for thought here however what rutendo needs to understand is that on any level the average South African owes nothing to a Zimbabwean and visa versa. South africa seems to be the only country in Africa where it's citizens complaints are constantly waterd down. There are multiple Geopolitical reasons as to why even on the lowest levels black people globally should be working together or against each other, let's not conflate the issue by adding emotional sentiments.
