  • Craft Fur Clousers aren't like deer hair closures. Sure they look similar, and tied in similarly as well. However, I find that there are a few things that make the craft fur closure more difficult to tie than the original buck tail clousers. I go over some of the techniques that make it easy though, and once. you learn these, they actually become quicker and easier than their natural cousin.
    One thing about craft fur is that it flows very nicely in the water. That makes this the perfect material for small closures. I have tied them down to size 16 even, and you still get a little movement even. Thats the thing, I find bucktail closures work much better than craft fur clousers when tied larger. Usually size 2 and up. You could even get away with a size 4 in bucktail, but I feel its important to get that movement, so smaller than that, I always reach for craft fur.
    As always I list the materials I use. Also don't forget to check out www.risenfly.com and use my discount code McFly at checkout. You will get a discount on some already great prices.

    Hi from Kansas City.🎣🤠. Dave Hughes fly tyer. Wonderful pink closer. The pink color is fantastic here in the Midwest. I've been tying these with a little bit of white on the bottom with silver tensel on each side. Works great on all fish. Good luck always 🤠 Dave Hughes 🎣

    Would like to see some different color variations for this fly. I've been tying buck hair clousers but I love the look of a craft fur clouser.. might have to get some materials soon..

      Yeah give it a try. Same technique, just use different colors. Craft fur comes in a wide range of colors so.

    Would you recommend 2 toning this by adding a clump of white to the belly side? Or would it be too much? Trying to make a natural pattern for specks

    • @McFlyAngler
      @McFlyAngler  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah for sure, add white, can be tied in any colors.

    Hi McFly Happy Holidays, have you tied any salt water teasers .

    • @McFlyAngler
      @McFlyAngler  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not "teasers" but I have tied plenty of saltwater flies. Teasers are not much different than some patterns ive tied before, they just don't have hooks. HAHA

    Dang McFly! You make it look so easy! I like streamers with prominent eyes like this one. What’s your take on purpose built barbless hooks vs. pinching the barb on conventional hooks? I think purpose built hook and hold better.

    • @McFlyAngler
      @McFlyAngler  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They do yes, for the most part. At least well made purpose built. Usually the way its shaped tend to hold on better for some reason (if its designed well). However sometimes the little nub left from The barb can help hold on as well. Personally I have a memory issue, and so occasionally I will forget to clip the barb. I try my best to use barbless when possible so I don't forget. HAHA

    How much does that weigh? I have a ultralight spinning setup and it is for 1-9 grams

    • @McFlyAngler
      @McFlyAngler  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure, I didn't weigh them, but if you want more weight use lead eyes instead.

    • @RonMTube

      I'm an avid UL/SUL fisherman and fly fish as well. My experience is that most flies are well under 1 g. Even if it reached 1 g, this clouser would probably be difficult to cast due to air resistance. Like McFly wrote, you can use lead eyes to get the weight up. The downside is you then have to fish the fly faster, undoing some of the benefits of using a fly. Of course clousers are often heavy flys anyway. Are you using an ajing rod? That's my guess based on the 1-9 g lure range.

    • @bobthebuilder2922
      @bobthebuilder2922 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RonMTube might be true. I fish in small streams with supricingly deep pockets so not being able to cast long and sinking wouldn't be a problem. I think tying tube flies too. That's what they use with ultra light and fly fishing setups for trout, grayling and rainbow trout where i come from.
      And i bought Noeby Infinite trout ul rod

    • @McFlyAngler
      @McFlyAngler  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bob, I cannot say whether or not that is a good rod. I have not heard of Noeby, or the rod. But if it works for you then great. I honestly couldn't tell you even if I did hear of it because its been so long since ive used conventional gear. As Ron said, most "flies" are quite light in order to cast with a fly rod. However, I do fish some rather heavy flies on occasion and throw them on a 6wt-8wt or so. They can be casted with a heavier rod setup. I suspect you could cast this with an ultralight spinning reel if you use lead eyes rather than dumbbells.
