  • These flies are easy to tie, and very effective on many species across the fly fishing spectrum. From freshwater fish including trout, bass and walleye, to saltwater fish like speckled trout, redfish, striper, and false albacore, This fly will catch just about any fish that is predatory on smaller baitfish. Its also pretty durable, and will last through many hard strikes from toothy fish.
    The movement from the craft fur is incredible, and really does seem to be very realistic. The fly also looks great, and has just the right amount of sparkle to attract the fish, but not spook them. It can be tied in a wide range of colors as well. I tie this on a Gamakatsu SS15 hook in size 2, but you can use a heavier wire hook for larger fish species, and a thinner hook for trout. You want the length of the hook shaft to be about the same though, so keep that in mind. Also, you can use a stronger thread than I used, just if its thicker, make sure and use less thread wraps. I prefer the thinner personally because its easier to keep the materials situated and even with it. To give some extra weight to this fly, you could make a few wraps with some lead wire as well. But I prefer this fly to suspend or slowly sink the way it does.
    I tied up a few of these, and am selling them on eBay. One of which will be the exact one I tied on this video if you are interested in purchasing them. I only have one set available, so get it while its still up for sale! - www.ebay.com/itm/202220567593

    Brilliant! Super fast and should be pretty bullet proof with the extra wraps of tying thread throughout the body. Nice job!

    Great tutorial Shawn 👍 I learned a new technique, thanks. It's sorta like a thunder creek but stretched out in sequences, if that makes sense. I'll try that out in white, yellow and black for walleye this coming season.

    i have been thinking about tying my own flies to use as teasers for salt water fishing

    • @McFlyAngler
      @McFlyAngler  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice! You should. I know some of the marlin flies are tied with feathers and stuff. Basically large flies without hooks.

    Thanks this was an awesome tutorial. May I suggest putting everything that is needed to tie it at the start of the video in writing.

      Thanks I’ve done that before. Instead now I just put it in the description section below the video with links to the products.

    First time I throw a flying lure to lay down, I watch it fly out of view , pump it once. BAM! 6lber grabs lure as it dives back in under limb. Fight was on! Had to be 25yrs ago or more, picture is still vivid in my mind. Nice to see idea come back around. Why not design a universal jig head that helps plastics dive/fly same directions as cast. Maybe a couple Berkley plastics designed with all features needed for best performance. Do it! Do it! Do it! Just sayin! Keep on!

    Beautiful fly! Could you add some sparkly stuff to give the appearance of scales and also a strip of something to look like a lateral line? Or does that stuff make the fly too bulky or unstable?

    • @McFlyAngler
      @McFlyAngler  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well the body wrap I used is sparkly, so it’s sorta a bit of a scale look, but yeah you could add more for sure. Get creative. :).

    Hey Shawn, nice tie. I don't use craft fur yet. I still have too much natural fur to buy craft fur yet. Call me old fashioned but I think it has a silkier movement in the water. I will go to craft fur when u run out of natural fur. It is much cheaper and I don't think the fish care. All the best to you and your family. Sean

      @McFlyAngler  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No need to go with any synthetic. I use naturals often as well. There are different properties to each, and therefor different flies can be made when using a wider range. But yeah man, naturals are great as well.

      Never had trouble with the thin hard or ultra thin. The flex formula can turn a little cloudy, and the thick formula can turn a little yellow, but it’s very minute color change. The rest are super clear.

      Do you buy your materials online and if so what website?

    • @McFlyAngler
      @McFlyAngler  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use 3 places to buy materials. One, my local fly shop when I can find the materials I am looking for. I work at a fly shop, and its just easier to grab them off the shelf when I work. Plus I can inspect the materials and make sure im getting what I want. If my fly shop doesn't cary it, then I go to Amazon or J-stockard. Amazon for just one or two materials, and J-stockard when I know I need a ton of stuff ($100 orders or more). Just cause they charge a lot for shipping, and its free after $100 spent. :)

      Where else? I mean I test on the water also, but hard to film in a river. I think it’s the perfect place.
