i actually like both the verses and the chorus. the imposing tone is great for the villainy but the upbeat chorus kinda suits tamatoa’s personality. it makes him sound fun but a deadly serious threat at the same time

Right before he starts in he straight up says "Are you just trying to get me to talk about myself? Because if you are.... I will gladly do so! In song form!" And as they run off he merely asks them if they like the song. He wasn't trying to be threatening until the bioluminescent bit.

As both my friend and I had already seen the whole movie, we still thought the evening was very much worth it because we got to see "Shiny" on a big screen at that event!

Y'know, someone should make a universe with like, a bunch of different gods or embodiments of things, and have the nature one sing this. Like, I don't get why people characterize nature as wise or fun. There's so much color and beauty in nature, (shiny) but normally color means poison in animals (evil). And for Maui they could make like a dark, space combo. Like night, or something. The "I have to give you credit for my start" could be a homage to the fact that 1: space existed long before earth, and therefore nature, and 2: the night and space and stuff is also really pretty, with stars and galaxies and such. The whole backstory thing could be about the humans rejecting them because the dark is scary. Also, the little Maoi's having trouble with his look" could be addressing possible shape shifting powers. The main reason why people are afraid of the dark is because they don't know what's there so anything could be there, so I thought to incorporate that so the darkness can be anything. I might think of a better idea later, but the best I have for "you little semi-demi-mingod" would be something to do with getting rejected by humans, and therefore his god-ness less is prominent. I still haven't thought of a couple of things, for example I dont know how I'm gonna incorporate a hook, but if i figure anything out then i'll edit

This song is so 80s Bowie/Elton John-esque, it’s actually fantastic. It borrows enough from both, but never feels contrived.
