Sondre Lerche is a genius. Just such a brilliant songwriter, guitarist and singer

Brilliant pop singer/songwriter/musician. He’s written brilliant pop tunes as a teenager. I believe he moved to NYC when he was quite young to facilitate his music career. Saw him around 2013 -14 I think. He was live at small when Sentimentalist came out. I was hooked. He just gets better and better. And sooooo underrated.

I remember many years ago Sondre played here in Columbus, Ohio and I’m not sure anyone knew his music. Afterwards, he was in the lobby leaning against the wall with absolutely nobody recognizing him. I shyly approached him to tell him how much I loved his show and he was the nicest, most humble guy. I still have the cd he signed for me around here somewhere. I might have dig it out and have a listen again.

Sondre Lerche just released a new song featuring a duet with Aurora called Alone In The Night. Hauntingly beautiful. Both artists are from Bergen Norway.

Can't believe this song came out 20 years ago. This was on the radio charts in Norway back in the day, in a somewhat tamer version admittedly :)
Fun watching you react to this, cheers! And how appropriate that a Dane tipped you off about a Norwegian, hehe.

Awesome take on one of my favorite artists-- I've been listening to Sondre for almost 20 years and his curious chord progressions have always fascinated my classical music focused brain. Would recommend seeing Sondre live as he's an incredible performer and does incredible improv on his own music.

Excellent video! Huge Sondre fan here, so I especially enjoyed this one! Per your statement/reaction: "a lot of unexpected things in here".. That's precisely the thing that really drew me into his music in the first place, aside from it just being incredibly sublime and executed so wonderfully. But again, for me, it's the complete lack of predictability that I found and still find so satisfying and refreshing. I mean, there's definitely a level of familiarity, in regards to a lot of the sounds, styles, etc.. you hear in his music i.e. you can tell where a lot of his influences are coming from but it's the particular way he strings all the parts together, his overall musical vocabulary, the arrangements, etc.. which results in something really unique and all his own.
Again, never predictable and always such an exhilarating trip with those unexpected twists and turns, but without ever sounding overly cluttered, self-indulgent or overly complex. In other words, just simply top tier pop music with depth and sophistication, things you don't typically hear much these days in the genre.

LOVE SONDRE!! Creator of the Dan in Real Life soundtrack, and avid wine drinker lol. You should check out him trying to explain how to play some of his newer music on an acoustic on Instagram.

Honestly, in regards to your statement about paying more attention to the lyrics, this particular song was written when Sondre was probably around 16 and his English was not quite what it is today lol. Love his early songs and the times when the lyrics were maybe a bit “weaker” (one might say) still does not interfere with my enjoyment and experience with the songs. But just know his English lyric writing skills have exploded in the last 10-15 years and he is one of the greats in my opinion.

Thank you Michael! So nice to hang. Great insight. Every song and album Sondre does is different, and the albums are very much worth checking out. The trio of Patience, Pleasure, Please and everything else are all unique and fantastic listening, especially with nice equipment.

I totally agree! Sondre's albums each innovate and feel distinct, without losing quality or sounding like a totally different artist. No record is a dud, even after 20+ years! Thanks for sharing this song idea.

Always a pleasure. We share many of my meals together. *Don't want to make you suffer through this.* Seeing you not get it right away, and then the techniques you use to figure it out, is an important part of the teaching. We suffer and it feels good to suffer along with you. 💕🙋🎶. Welcome home.

This is a fun one! It sounds a little like he takes some inspiration from the Beatles, especially some of the vocals. Changes and scales reminiciant the more more complex pop music of a period far before Sondre's time. Beautiful song. Definitely enjoyed this video.

This is so random but Sondre actually only started "listening" to The Beatles about 2 years ago. He was more of a Beach Boys kind of guy.

Really cool! This got me thinking of a Belgian band I heard when I lived there with both a great guitarist and drummer. If you have the time, it would be awesome to hear your thoughts on "Puggy: Burned" when they played at "Ferme du Biéreau, Louvain-la-Neuve". It's an old video, but the guitar playing is stellar

Hey, one guitar slinger I'd like to see you check out is Stuie French from Australia, now in Nashville. Killer old school country chops!! He performs with his wife and son as the French Family Band. His young son, Sonny, is almost at his dad's level at age 15. You can catch videos of them doing the Les Paul classic How High The Moon. I think you'll be thoroughly impressed.

That groove is so sweet! Super tight musicianship - bad@ss.
Great reaction and killer theory explanations. My son is a music education major so he has to translate for me. I know my limitations!
Rewatched your Prince reaction and it had me wondering if you've seen the Yellow Matter Custard version of While my guitar gently weeps? Paul Gilbert killing it on guitar and your boy Mike Portnoy on drums. An excellent performance!
Would love to see you react to some Paul Gilbert videos- from one G.I.T. alumni to another. There's probably a thousand great ones to choose from. Peace and best wishes from SC

Surprising and fun to see you bring out Sondre L from South West Norway. Looks like Sondre has a love for hollowbodys too. Not quite my "music style", a bit like jazz-Pop (my body is white but my ears are black, blues, can not leave it, can not fight it). Keep going Michael, we're looking at you, even though the distance between us is big. Maybe one day I will come up with a wish ,,,, you have already played one of my favorites with "him" (Robin Trower).
