- 'House of the Dragon' stars Paddy Considine and Matt Smith chat with ET about the 'Game of Thrones' prequel, which debuts Aug. 21 on HBO. The actors tease what fans can expect to see from their characters and admit they aren't letting the pressure of the 'GoT' fandom affect them.

He did more than that. He made Viserys better than the source material. He deserves all the awards
I knew Matt would be superb as Daemon, but Paddy's as Viserys has blown me away. That scene in the first episode in the throne room when he disinherits Daemon was phenomenal

why do so many compliments to Paddy begin with a disclaimer about Matt? You can compliment Paddy without acting unique

Yea he's a good actor. You can see the internal conflict on his face even when he isn't delivering any lines.

This show is proof that others could've continued the main show if only D&D hadn't been such egomaniacs who refused to step aside. HotD is legitimately such a blast.
I know it’s ridiculous to say. But they should remake the ending of game of thrones. It’s an injustice to end it as pathetically as it did.
@@garbageFreeFall Nah. The actors have aged or moved on. Plus the finale is like broken glass. Even if you remake it, those scarred memories will still remain.

It would have improved if they stepped aside. As soon as they ran out of source material the show went down hill.

When Paddy said he served Viserys as best as he can, he was damn right. Particularly after that Episode 8 performance. Man!

First ep really knocked me on my ass. I wasn't that hyped for it tbh after how awful the finale to GOT was but I really enjoyed this. Reminded me of how good GOT was when it was at it's best. Really looking forward to watching each ep over the next 9 weeks.
Matt would never be able to disappoint a fandom even if he tries. Always in love with every character he plays...

I was scared they were gonna cast some bland Ken-doll as Daemon (like the guy that plays Criston Cole) and I'm so happy they went with someone like Matt Smith instead. He's magnetic.

Two grounded, intelligent and talented actors. Both we're excellent in episode 1 and long may it continue.
Paddy really surprised me. He really breathed life and depth into Viserys. I am in love with his work in HotD

Just came here to appreciate Paddy for his acting skills, was a fan of daemon from ep1 but paddy as the king won my heart with his acting in ep 8 . He deserves Emmy
The fact that Paddy Considine said that just shows how aware the cast is regarding the stuff the cast from GoT had to go through...
This show has all my favorite actors in it, but Matt Smith certainly stands out. He is absolutely the most interesting character. He is smart, intense, and very dangerous.

I don't know who the hell had the idea to cast Matt Smith for the role of Prince Daemon, it may have passed for a crazy idea, but congratulations, it was a genius idea! He is amazing, so interesting, he embodies so well the 2 faces of the coin ! 👏👏👏👏

I'm just absolutely delighted for Paddy getting the peaky blinders job, then this, he's been top drawer for years.
Paddy was absurdly good as Viserys. Absurdly good, he stole episode 8.
I honestly didn't know who either of these guys where. I had heard Paddy was in Hot Fuzz (a bonus) and that Matt was Dr. Who (never watched it).
But I AM a huge GOT nerd. I've read everything and I had HUGE expectations for Daemon. GRRM said Daemon was his favorite Targaryen so I had some misgivings at first. And the wigs were eh.
Oh man...what a pleasant surprise! I have been blown out of the water since episode one!!! After watching GOT since it hit the wall in season 5 (debate me bro), I feel like someone who has been terribly sick for years. And for a few weeks on Sundays, I manage to forget it for a while.
100% I would rather have Winds of Winter but this was such a surprise! I thought this would tank like ROP and every Star Wars Movie since the 90s.
Everyone just rocked. As a huge GOT nerd and critic of all things Targaryen, I have to give these two standing ovations. They not only did a great job, they have lit fires again, somehow, against all odds. I know many GOT nerds who refuse to recommend the show because they are afraid it will still let them down. I recommend it 100%. Even if it all falls apart this Sunday, it's been a hell of a ride. They say Matt steals the show but I disagree. Paddy stole it fair and square from Matt. Though they battled for it on an even field.
And there are dragons!!! And more dragons to come. They will become characters for many. I'd like to see a flashback of Viserys riding Baleron one last time. I want to know why the most fearsome beast in history, bent his neck to a kind of weak king. Even if it was only for one ride. Like, did Balieron have to show Viserys something? Did he bond with him so that Balieron could lend him some strength? Or is the Great Viserys more than what he seems? Is he the greatest and most Fierce King to have ever lived?
Paddy did great acting but Matt is truly shine as Daemon.

I LOVED the show! It had a different vibe than GOT for sure. But loved seeing all the different generations. I do wish that the actors didn’t change due to the aging over the years, cuz I enjoyed the first Rhaenyra actress much better than the second. And Daemon is my favorite character, he’s just so fun to watch. But my God, if anyone deserves an award for a performance in this, it hands down goes to Paddy Considine. I mean, the ending! The infliction his character suffered throughout, the sadness. He made me cry! 😢

But Paddy Constantine with the aid of a top of the notch work from the writers gave an astonshing performance to me....Viserys is such a complex and flavorful character.

@@johnjungkook2721 Good point, fact is Matt Smith has a role designed to be cool while Viserys is designed to appear good but weak.
It's a lot easier to get involved with the cool guy than the complex weak character.

These guys actually pull off being opposite in character yet relatable and believable as brothers with a contentious relationship. Daemon steals every scene he’s in but Paddy did amazing as Viseryz.

Yup. GRRM is taking a more active role. Dumb and Dumber are gone, exposed as the hacks they are. Sapochnik and Djwadi are back. Damn near impossible to f*ck this up.

The good thing about being at the beginning of these shows is most likely you won't be alive at the end of it. I don't hear about no one complaining about Ned Stark. They're only mad at the main characters that were still alive at the end. Hop on the show early and you'll most likely be dead before the final season and none of the fans will be mad at you.

I love paddy as Viserys is so amazing! I hated his character in Peaky Blinders which shows the amazing wings of acting and how extravagant this actor goes. His acting in episode 8 was breathtaking! Just know Paddy you now gained another fan!

there are great series right now... but then just comes HOTD and just swept them all away... just like that...with every new chapter is gets better and better.
I only know Paddy from The World’s End/Hot Fuzz and surprisingly (from left field) The Outsider (on HBO)
In almost every single actor interview video I see where they are asked if its awesome to play or portray a character they almost never show enthusiasm or excitement for the question...the reason for this is because people forget to them its nothing more than a job. We see the glamour lighting, post production colour grading and effects and incredible music and sound design but they see green screens and hot sweaty heavy costumes and tiring set pieces doing takes of lines over and over again day in and out. Nothing exciting about that.

Right. The part that's exciting for the actor and the part that's exciting for the audience are 2 separate things (at least in screen acting). For the audience it's the spectacle and production value, plus maybe the red carpets and interviews. For the actors, it's the nerdy stuff, a lot of which happens before cameras even roll: character study, table reads, background research. And the stuff related to spectacle is just the part that makes it a job.

Im just really mad that none of these new actors are familiar with the story or big fans of it . Not a fan of the grown Rhaenyra casting either and the wigs are killing me. But its been 3 episodes haven’t seen grown Rhaenyra in action so imma give it a chance last episode for me was lack lustered
