Grazie, grazie.
Wow!! I am speechless... where can one find more beauty of tone and such a fine interpretation? There is not a single one singer now a day as wonderful as Pertile.
If not the most beautiful voice, certainly one of the most exciting. He was also a great actor so they say. He had a real ringing top voice, I love his complete recording of Trovatore with Granforte.
I quite agree with you. Add to this Pertile's exquisite sensitivity and feel for the music, he was a remarkable interpreter. These recordings show his traits to their fullest. This is what singing is all about.
Yeah, he is the greatest. The voice is always upfront and relaxed even in hard parts, so there is the impression that he could give even more, effortlessly... The passagio does not exist here, except for teaching purposes :-)
Ma a me basta.
He could be less known among young people in the United States today, because he returned to Italy after staying at the Met for only one season. He was such a marvelous singer.
+ywn3 I am not young, and have followed opera and tenors for many years and he is less well known to me. You mention one reason-he was not a Met singer, and had very little exposure in the US. I was just reading a letter of Gatti Casazza when he wrote Pertile and id not renew his contract even though he had a great reception here-though he doesn't come out and say it he had martinelli, Gigli, and Lauri-Volpi at that time. Another reason is that Pertile was a great theatrical tenor, actor and performer, and that doesn't always come through the same way on recordings. Also his great strengths with language is less effective with non-Italians, and in the US sheer beauty of voice was the thing
¡¡¡Absolutamente Maravilloso!!!
The greatest tenor ever, giving a singing, and interpretation lesson. Of all the Pertile recordings, this one (Rodolfo) is truly representative of his great art. The constant cascade of overtone, from ppp to fff, is strong enough to warm a small city! Intensity, BEAUTY, interpretation; It's all there! Bravo!! I'll take his intensity over ANY "beauty" any day! What is opera, after all? IMHO....
I never could warm up to his timbre, but he had a great singing technique, and you'd be crazy to deny that. He also remains true to the score and the composer's intentions.
I'm amazed at this voice....the first time I've heard it and only as a consequence of seeking it out after finished reading "The Tenors: a History of the Voice" by John Potter. How could this voice have been so "unknown" to me who has tracked the tenor voice for 40 years. I don't much like the "histrionics" that pass for acting...I don't like them in any recording...but the voice, the timber the "squillo" and the dynamics....Wow.
Espero haber aclarado y no osc. Lo saludo resp.
Signs? I was hoping for a marvellous video about 1920's contract signing, with the usual "and so forths" "henceforths" and "the undersigned'... but all it is a video of splendid singing.
@Kievest You're welcome. I truly agree. I made the mistake years ago to comment about Pavarotti's version here in Utube, that I found it boring and flat...even to-day I receive burning aggressive comments of fans...it was nothing personal over P, I liked the big man, I only disliked his capacity as a complete artist...
Pertile is in a way "my grandad" as a teacher... I had lessons with Pier Miranda Ferraro arond 1991 0r 2.. Ferraro was also a "power man"... I put two videos of La vita e in ferno on youtube, as karifrid, the better from 2013, with added HIGH C in the rest... (I learned to sing HIGH C, in Italy..) I do not SOUND as Pertile or Ferraro, BUT I AM STRONG,AND USING MY BODY...(As I learned...) I Still can sing High D and deep D..... Long voice....Turiddu, IlTroavatore,Ricchardo,Cavaradossi,Radames and Edgardo as my best roles today.....

He was one of Pavarotti s favourite tenors when he was studying, along with Gigli .

Ciao Ilser. E buono trovare altri fans di Pertile.
