To fly the gasbag think of it like a rocket. The initial launch gives you the most thrust and momentum. You keep the momentum after the launch. The longer you hold down jump the longer you launch. So you want to let go of jump well before you reach the height you want because the momentum you generated will continue after you let go. Pressing any direction input will also create thrust and potentially increase altitude. So when you're headed in the direction you want you need to not touch anything, any input will create more thrust. Some tips I recommend are medium jumps which conserve gas and limits your launch height. Also level oxygen because it will increase your total amount of gas.
To add to this comment- Here's what Axe needs to understand. The Gasbags is a giant inflatable balloon with thrusters on the Bottom. As long as he hits a directional button the gasbags thrusts in that direction AND up. If he's already falling he has to also slow his falling enough to stop and start rising up again. So just remember once you start falling, you're going to keep falling slowly unless you use ALOT of gas to stop it.

Easy for traveling and less risk of crashing onto the ground, if your on a high ledge inflate completely and just walk off the edge and you’ll slowly descend but keep in mind how much gas you have left before deflating.
A few things: - level oxigen for more gas. - I think there isn't realy a button to get down, you just have to wait uptill you don't go up anymore. With the gasbags it's like being on the moon: when you jump it takes longer to fall back down again. - when you go up too much, don't press anything and wait.

There is a huge issue where of your game / sever hitches your gasbags starts going straight up and will continue until you hit the ceiling which can kill you both. Dismount (so you can stand on its back) to stop immediately. And your direction you're pointing at lift off will determine how high you go. Leveling movement speed makes it move faster in the air only. But it's great at high o2 levels to get clean across the map.
According to Syn, I think he said if shot while inflated, gasbags get less torpor but yeah, their weight makes them very useful for carrying stuff. And you might need some flying lessons from Syn😅
Feed your Tames. Feed your Tames. You could use your doggo to see health and torpor by aim with your weapon. Equipped your doggo with the right saddle to see tames.
I discovered a way to unequip your painted skin and use it on another item without repainting it ! Just hold shift while clicking on the item with the skin and slide beside the item, while on the cosmetic tab. Hope it helps some people and Axe !
Happy to see you use Captain's trap. The snow owl would have made your life easier, but I think your way of doing things produces good content. Regarding the Gasbags, it's use to me is best for filling it up with OSD loot or Element from the veins since it can get very heavy. It's also just good for transporting lots of weight, but probably not for metal, wood and stone since argy and anky/doed/beaver is still better to me. Controlling the gas bags can take awhile to get use to like the Maewing, but once you get used to it it's fine. If you want to travel a good distance with them you will want to put your stats in oxygen, but it's still not a flyer and you will need to take a few stops to get to your destination.
Controlling the gasbags is momentum based, essentially pressing W doesn't mean "go forward" instead it means "build up forwards momentum". The longer you press the more momentum. It's kinda like a charged jump that you can't cancel - after you've given the command you're just along for the ride. You can course correct *slightly* but it costs a lot of gas to do since you'll be fighting your own momentum. It's much preferable to aim your initial launch carefully, hold down the jump button for about a third of the height you want to go, and then only tap the buttons from time to time to just barely keep the gasbags at top speed. Avoid building up more momentum than you need - adding more is possible, taking it away is not. Even if you feel like you're going the wrong way - don't hold, just tap. You'll waste all your gas making hardly any difference otherwise. When you use it a bunch you'll quickly get a feel for how much button holding translates into how much momentum ^^ Also the button that made you lose all your air was probably C

My way of taming gasbags is how I tame most things now. Drop in front with owl. Freeze and hold. Use stone gate on your hot bar. Place one and a door at the farther end, then place three coming closer then the last door and boom almost anything in the game is trapped. Also if you jump off the gasbags you stay on them and gently fall down with 0 damage
They REALLY need to get rid of the fall damage on Gasbags. Maewings fly across entire maps at mach speeds, it's ridiculous that they make a comparatively slow moving, harder to control creature take so much fall damage while Maewings smash into the ground and slide.

Gas bags are meant to be "feathered" meaning you tap the gas not full send. They will get more gas by oxygen level. You will go up every time you accelerate they are the fastest mounts in the game if used correctly. And can actually fly across water at mach jesus with just a tap. Best mount EVER. If you push w once you fall about 100ft or so then go up 200ft then let go and repeat
Gasbags is the only creature in the entirety of the ARK franchise that actually benefits from high oxygen, and you should actively level it for oxygen. Its gas capacity (and thus flight time) scales with its Oxy stat
Hey Axe fun and funny vid but dude ur armadogo could've also helped you if u have the right equipment for it for it acts like a super spyglass or like tek binoculars. Try that out when ur out taming since ur playing in vanilla. There's also a lot of obsidian in the city dude and Axe gl for like with the gachas I have gotten a good crossbow and longneck dude so def try for the higher lvls and always keep them well feed with like food (meaning anything), and snow owl pellets. XD So gasbags r used for carrying shit around do to their amazing weight that's basically it. Not much they can do.

Syntac used a snow owl to ice the gasbag to deflate it quicker. But yeah if you shoot it while it's inflated it takes less torpor.
