Ex-mormon here. Funeral potato’s were a staple dish growing up. Now in some bars here in Utah they do a spin off of it and do deep fried Mormon potatoe balls! So good! I wish her all the success!

I’m a membresía of the church of Jesus Christ of the latter day saints (Mormon church) and my education was completely different. I have never been told were I should study, who I should marry, and I personally never was told not to ask about sexual topics, actually, my mom encouraged me to feel comfortable to approach her whenever I has questions about it or anything. Nothing in the church is a secret, they’re sacred covenants with deep meaning for the ones who make them and for the Lord, we’re told to seek and w’ll find oye answers if we sincerely wish to do so. I’m really sorry you went through all of those unfortunate experiences, I don’t personally know you, but I can’t help but to think how hurt your heart must be after all those problems, but in your case I think the issue was your social circle, and more than that people that taught you their ideas instead of what the Lord, our Savior Jesus Christ wants for you.
I respect your decision of stepping away from the church, but please remember that He loves you, no matter what, the Lord will alwaysbe there for you. The reason I’m a part of His church is because I’ve felt His love and I’ve seen Him make many miracles in my life, my testimony of His love and plan for us is what has helped me stay faithful, regardless of what other people say.
Sending you lots of love! ❤️💕🫶🏻
I’m mexican and currently live in Mexico and speak spanish, so there might be some translating errors because of the autocorrector 😅

I grew up Mormon, went to an all girls Catholic School in a small city, there is no comparison. I was bullied and excluded for being Mormon.

    One extreme to the other.

"Opressive religion"...hilarious! I guess you can't leave when you're Mormon or Catholic... oh, wait... you can. So oppressive.

Physically yes. Mentally it's damaging. Knowledge & reality taught so deeply it effects the rest of your life. People abuse others & commit suicide when they've been brought up in extreme cases.

@adriannespring8598 That's one view and there's other views also. Are you saying that millions of people across the world, with different cultures, races, backgrounds and socioeconomic classes choose to be "oppressed" by going to church and believing the LDS doctrine?

Religious Trauma is real. Just because YOU haven't experienced it doesn't erase it for others. LDS meets many of the criteria of a high-control (oppressive) group on Steven Hassan's BITE model, and there are thousands of ExMos online who share how they have suffered religious trauma in the LDS community. I love learning from several ExMo content creators on YT.
Your view is just one view, too! If LDS church helps you thrive, good on you! Nobody out here wants you to give up something you love. They just want to share their stories, which are different from yours, and that's okay! Be well, Captain!

@@brookcodyprice There are lots of views. You seem troubled by some that are different from yours. Are you trying to use a band wagon fallacy to invalidate the experiences of LDS members and former members?

@mizotter You're convinced that millions of members are voluntarily joining a church and voluntarily giving 10% of everything they earn, so they can be oppressed... but I'm the one that's troubled? Uh-huh...
