also, Moonu(3) was another great character -- a conventional middle-class woman with a dream for her daughters -- Rohini played, which was not celebrated as VIP Saranya was. Especially the sequence, where she visits her eloped daughter at her house after so many months, is something only a veteran actor like Rohini can pull off.

Rohini has clear clarity mindset. I jus mind blown the way she is seeing things like when Bharadwaj were asking about the salary of supporting actress and north heroine are coming into the industry. She opened up with the different perspectives. I think that was the best part of this interview for me.

Back to the question why other state girls are being cast now and not in 80s.
During 80s we didn't have this much of media exposure. There were only magazines, TV channels were limited to States/countries. So the exposure was very limited.
Now the situation is different after Mobile phones in everyone's hand. Global has become one country. Therefore glamour has become all most to international level. And Directors/Producers cast girls who can cater today's audience. But the same Directors/Producers stick to the same dark skin Actors like Vijay, Rajinikanth, Dhanush etc. Sad.

It is not about Bharadwaj audience. Rohini came for the promoting the film. Thandatti is the Tamil film right. That's why she might have told that she will only tell about the tamils movies than Telugu and Malayalam
