Telling yourself is not only normal but expected when you are saiing alone in tense situations. Good sailing.

Absolutely nothing wrong with talking to yourself !. In stressful situations it is a way to get your brain to get out of panic mode and thinking again. When I was a child I used to have panic when I lost sight of my parents in the wilderness and an aunt of mine would ask me what my birthday was or what my full name was just to force me to think again and that would get me out of that mental paralysis that takes hold of us when in panic or fear. So I totally relate to talking to yourself whatever you need to get your mind focused !
Solomon Islands, some of the most vicious naval surface battles of WWII, were there. Some great history in that area.

Being 79 I find that I talk to myself as a backup. While I'm doing a project I talk myself through it. So far I haven't heard any voices answering me. Lol❤❤❤

Yeah! Who’s dis’in self talkers? The best conversations my wife and I have are when talking to ourselves… naturally they often happen two weeks out of sync, but that’s how ppl stay married 45 years.

💪💪💪 Absolute beast! I've been in a few sketchy boat situations and it's TERRIFYING. Holly just handles it.
I never thought of it as talking to myself. It's more like narration and spoken checklists. Like reading outloud. Definitely not crazy. 🤯😵💫🤣
I really liked this episode... starts with a salty sailor ghost escaping the jaws of Pac Man Island... then thoughts on talking to oneself (which is fine, IMHO, until someone who is not there talks back, but one might count that as a vision, which is also fine)... and as always, just good, smart sailing.
As for the chart table, it definitely seems to be a wasted resource, so have at it.

When charts get too expensive, you should bring waterproof ink and quality paper and draw your own maps. Swap them with other mariners. I like the radio and things hanging from the ceiling. It's kind of like airline people. You need a CB radio and maybe a loose 12 volt chest freezer. They are very affordable, these days.

"Officials" in Cozumel many years ago decided we owed them a ridiculous bribe. We stood our ground and waited it out. We'd only gone there for fuel. They wouldn't clear us in so we couldn't buy any fuel - even though we were tied to the fuel dock!
Eventually they reluctantly allowed us to have some diesel and leave. The diesel was contaminated with rusty water and oily sludge.

Great video, remembering what it was like from our circumnavigation in the 1980s, presently sailing the Eastern Atlantic, headed for Brazil. My wife's book is a good one, published by Austin Macauley of New York, and available on Amazon, literally a fictional story of sailing and adventure: "Seychelle and the Cannabis Yachties". It is very entertaining, hoping you will give it a read and a review.
