  • This episode focuses on the Owl Vans ladder, tire carrier, and aluminum storage box on the 2021 Winnebago Revel. The video commences at OK4WD in Stewartsville, New Jersey, where the team installs the equipment. Upon completion, I discuss the gear in detail, showcasing its merits, and talk about future modifications to the van. No affiliation with Owl Vans.

  • @TheKnightsShield

One addition I think that box could use, would be a power outlet of some sort. You never know when it might come in handy and it'll be out of the elements while inside the box, so it'll be reasonably well protected. I know it would be inside the box and you'd only be able to use it when the door is open, but it would allow you to put something on charge in there that you might not want in the van itself and it could even remain in there while the van is moving down the trails/roads.

Chirs - Thanks so much for taking the time to do this video of our gear! I wanted to reach out because we have since made some major updates to our box line-up. All the boxes are made by outside suppliers as opposed to the carriers that are made in-house. We too felt the boxes were a weak-point and we have worked with our suppliers, and found a new supplier, that is up to our quality standards. We hope to get in contact with you so that you would be able to test out our updated offerings

    Two questions:
First, I didn’t see where they painted the holes that were drilled into the body. We’re they protected from rust?
Second, they didn’t use a scratch protector when mounting your tire and it appeared the finish was marred. Was your wheel damaged?

  • @juststeve7665
    @juststeve7665 3 ปีที่แล้ว +41

Chris you might want to edit out the part where they ruined your new rim by not using the proper installation tool when mounting the tire. I watched as he let the tire mounting machine chew gouges in the rim edge and cringed! Supposed to us a plastic guard on the end of the arm when mounting tires on aluminum rims. This makes them look bad/very unprofessional. I know this because I have mounted many many tires on steel and aluminum rims and have made this mistake. OK4WD should have immediately replaced the rim when he saw he did this. If they let this kind of sloppy work go they will ruin their own reputation. Maybe they don't care? There were other installation mistakes as well....

Put bulky lightweight stuff in that box. You do not want a lot of weight swinging around that far back from the axle. Keep those heavy iron shackles inside near a door. perhaps in a bag under the front seat? I'd also figure out a better way to secure that spare tire from theft. That padlock isn't even going to slow down a thief. Well, maybe 10 seconds but that's it. I'd use Xbull for the traction boards as well. They are pretty tough and knowing you they will get little to no use. I'd get and use a Smitty built(bilt?) air compressor. With 5 cfm it's better than most and you can get two for less than some of the fancy name brand stuff out there. I have been using one for many years and very glad I found it. I want another since 10 cfm is better than 5 and having a backup is my OCD habit.

I got hooked into all the comments here and made some myself. But, so many are very negative. So, I went back and watched the "V10E12: Northern Extremities of Montana" to get a better perspective. The bottom line is that whatever Chris does, I hope it gives him happiness, regardless of what vehicles he uses or with whom, especially in these tough times. And, if changing his channel a little does it for him with his girlfriend, great. And, wow, does she ever cook some good meals and has a very pleasant voice.

I'd you dont already, get two mobile radios with permanently mounted antennas. I'd go with something in the GMRS area like Midland or one of the Chinese units. Handhelds are ok for very short distances, but good mobile units will increase your distances significantly. Good luck and safe travels.

I went to an RV dealership and looked at a Revel and nearly stroked out as I looked at the sticker...OMG. Well, so much for that. I'll look at what Dodge and Ford offer. I loved the new additions to your rear doors, looks awesome and super functional.

You’d likely be better off getting a Powerwagon and an Allucab truck camper on the back.

Isn’t it better to keep the weight of the vehicle forward of the rear axle? This new box and tire carrier seem unnecessary with so much unused space in the main compartment.

I’m sure there is plenty of weight on the front axle. It’s about space.

Really hope the negative comments don't get to you. I can't imagine living out of an SUV for multiple years on end. I doubt many of them have the stamina to do that. It's absolutely rational to try and make a setup that will accommodate others on your adventures. I'm excited for more off the beaten path adventures with Orangie, it's just more interesting to me, but the Revel has it's place and I'm glad you're exploring that.

Interesting new content Chris. I personally would love to see more adventure content with the Revel.. also that padlock on the spare.. too easy to cut there is better options... cylinder style

After watching Lock Picking Lawyer vids NO Lock is secure. They only take up time to get to item. Locks ONLY keep Honest people out sad to say. I'd put a thick piece of pipe on the rod between padlock & tire to spin to make it harder to cut with cordless sawzall & with a cable lock as backup.

❤️ The new addition Chris! You inspired SO MANY people to get out there and explore and tap into personal adventure, myself included I outfitted my Rubicon with the Ursa Minor and it was a total game changer for me and the quality of life experiences with my beloved Jeep, I have you to thank for that. I am so so happy for you and looking forward to this new and exciting and challenging chapter, good / bad. . all of it, keep rollin brother.

What about switching it up a little, go with Smittybilt Traction Boards (4 for the price of two MaxTrax) then add a Smittybilt Airtank since you run the air compressor on the Jeep.
Have you considered Raptor Lining the storage box.

Great video and will continue to follow you since you were the inspiration for us to get back to overlanding and it saved our marriage. I do wish you would put a name to the "girlfriend" though. It's kind of like being called "the wife". I am more than a title and I am sure she means more to you than just a title. Respect of her privacy of not wanting to be seen though. Just a name please. Love everything about what adventures come to your life.
