I'm just a simple homeowner so none of this is relevant to me, but still cool that you take the time to show people this info so I watched it all the way through.
Thanks Ian! Now you know the process and can recommend it to young folks that are looking at different career options. Thank you for being a subscriber!
I have a great respect for anyone who is a full time plumber. It takes a special kind of person who will do this work. They do not get paid nearby enough. Everytime I have my plumber out I gladly pay him whatever he says.
Ha! Yup! That was the idea when I graduated from high school. Get my plumbing license and then go from there. I'm hoping to get my electrical licensing next but that is a long journey too. Thanks for being a subscriber!
So easy to become elevator constructor. In many European countries you should complete electrician education then complete mechatronics education and only those two certificates give you right to visit 1-week elevator course, which ends by licensing exam.
Becoming a plumber looks like getting a masters degree, I heard too many stuff like, union, licence, taking a test every year, 7000 hours of work, too many documents, etc.
Minnesota changed its plumbing code a few years ago, I think we observe the UPC now whereas before we had our own state code? Not sure... I remember reading an inspector's blog and now it's required to have one of those air gap things on the kitchen sink between the dishwasher discharge port and the P-trap connection! I hate those things, they're ugly!
Not anything specific but you can usually download your State specific plumbing code book for free which has a lot of great information if you can sift through the technical jargon. Here is the MN plumbing code book: www.dli.mn.gov/business/plumbing-contractors/2015-minnesota-plumbing-code Thank you for being a subscriber!
I'll never be a plumber, nevertheless very interesting. Do you have to periodically re-certify every few years or take additional tests? And, did you ever consider becoming an electrician instead of a plumber? Thanks for the video.
Yes, we are required to do continuing education for every license renewal period. This was a fairly recent change and probably a good thing to keep us all up to date on code changes and such. Yes! I actually am very seriously looking into getting my master electrician license. Unfortunately it is a long process much like the plumbing license so it is a big commitment. I am actually looking to possibly hire a Master Electrician but they are in high demand so are consequently hard to find for hire!
Experience is what you need not trade school. Apprentice takes about 3 years, then 4 years of working experience to get a Journeymans license. Then another 2 years to get your Masters license. Won't make shit with out being licensed
Haha, so I've been told... So hard to only do one thing! I am thinking to start a couple of other channels for the other topics as it seems like most people only want to see electrical videos on this channel. Maybe I'll have to think about starting a handyman business! Unfortunately Minnesota is not very friendly to "handyman" type businesses...
Some of THE BEST basic hand tools I recommend: www.amazon.com/shop/benjaminsahlstrom
Mr Ben , you are past the Master class. You are a kind and knowledgeable man. Thanks for all your efforts. Respect

Trade schools charge WAY TOO MUCH. I'd take the apprenticeship any day.
Totally agree!
Upc is uniform
Union apprenticeship. Earn while you learn.
Trade school is a joke
I mostly agree. I think that it can be valuable in very limited situations but most of the time it is not necessary.
Wow? Be a MASTER turd chaser? Big deal-not.
Thanks SH! What is your career in?
