“The Two Soldiers” ~ • Two Soldiers - Nora Brown
Experience the story of a military patrol marching through a small town during the bloodiest year of America’s deadliest conflict. The young northern soldiers who seek to detect enemy combatants find what they looking for, but also discover a much more disturbing and thought-provoking truth.

We are absolutely honored to have your compliment and approval of our short film, sir. Thank you so kindly for your great words, and for your service to this country. In truth, it is very much an anti-war film, and I am so glad that we were able to respectfully portray a timeless truth. “War is Hell.” I am very glad that we were able to shed a light on this forgotten history of the Civil War, but the film speaks very largely to the humanity of all combatants, and the true nature of armed conflict.

When my late ex husband fought in Vietnam in 1970, he was killing boys around fourteen years old. The child soldiers would be on night patrols with adults and were killed during ambush attacks by American soldiers. Messed his head up killing kids. He regretted killing them, but it was dark in the jungle and the GIs had to wait till sunrise before collecting the dead.

You guys did a good job showing the settings of how it looked land wise. Small side note: Anyone reading this that grew up or lives in Fairfax County, you can go online and find the aerial photos taken of the county dating back to 1937. I mentioned this because 1937 Fairfax didn't change much from Civil War Fairfax when looking at maps.

@@christopherweber9464 thank you so very kindly gentlemen! It is grand to have support from our southern counterparts on this piece! I think this is truly an important glimpse at a seldom mentioned and often overlooked part of the war. A tragic piece of our history, largely overshadowed by the great battles and heroes of the conflict. I see this short film as a small window into the past. The fact that these are young soldiers, clad with authentic wardrobe, accompanied by an accurate setting and crafted into a simple but poignant story, make this an effective reminder that we must never allow such a thing to happen again. Truly, this is distinctly an anti-war piece, reminding us that despite the glory and honor, there is a human toll. The music is by an artist who never fails to transport me back in time through history, and her song is perfectly fitting here. Please do take a listen to Nora Brown’s music!

Thank you! Soldiers generally took pride in keeping their uniforms clean, and their muskets bright. In fact, these very things would be looked for during inspection. In this film, the soldiers are portraying fresh recruits, so that may excuse the lack of grime. Short answer: You are correct, we will work next time to apply more detailed grime and dirt, but “rolling” and getting filthy would be too much. Such a dirty looking soldier would be immediately ordered to clean up in such a situation as garrison, while during a prolonged or disastrous engagement, you may see soldiers with muddy trousers and smeared faces. As you may be able to see by my profile picture, I am a drummer (though humble Pvt. at this juncture with a rifle in my hands and banjo strapped to my back.) I look forward to catching you somewhere soon!

@@excelsiorbrigade fantastic! Come out to an event where the field music is appreciated and played in its original context! As you may be able to see by my profile picture, I am a drummer (though humble Pvt. at this juncture with a rifle in my hands and banjo strapped to my back.) I look forward to catching you somewhere soon!

I am truly happy that this video was able to strike a cord with you emotionally, and reveal the horrifying true nature of war. Please share your thoughts if you would like to. Always grand to hear commentary and criticism from a longtime viewer.

What song did you use for this

Nora Brown’s beautiful “Two Soldiers!” This song truly pulled the entire short film together. I had it in my mind from the first second of viewing the raw footage.
Nora is credited directly at the end of the video, and her channel is linked in the description where she is also credited! Without her music this video would not be the same.
Please take a look at her music, listen, and head over to see her albums. They are remarkable. Each song paints a complex and beautiful picture of the past.
