Hi, just watched the video and have to say that it's very very interesting. Bravo for the installation, the compositions and the recordings. I agree on the patreon thoughts as well. Have a good voice recovery, that looked like an awesome marathon you did, so worth it!
Hey Hainbach! big fan--just got a poltergeist and wanted to know how you are using it in your set up now? Maybe you could describe in detail some tips and tricks that you use. all the best and i will keep watching your content.
HAINBACH just getting into it. I’m new to this. There aren’t many out there- they only produced 150 of them. Haven’t seen many in the rabbit hole of TH-cam.
@@drherb1216 just got one too, luckily. I’m not using it for quad yet, but plan to. Just got it to work well for me today in stereo mode. Took some troubleshooting but found out that Pamela’s new workout does a great job sending cv to the panning. Tried my varigate with some not so great results. It’s seems like a mixer you got to fine tune before hand, at least from the four hours I’ve played on it today. I’ll be making videos in the future with it. Also check out Franck Martin here on yt. He is the reason I got one. Pro tip: looks like panning cv input likes more of an envelope rather than square or sawtooth waves IMO. I heard clicks when muted when I used my varigate 8 cv to the pan cv input of the poltergeist. Used make noise maths at first but settled on PNW.
I have no words to express how amazing this video is. Although I love your performance videos, the videos where you explain the process really get me. They are incredibly inspiring and insightful. And this takes it to another level just on the basis of the cinematography, it's beautiful to the ears and the eyes. Thank you so much for posting this! I have two questions: how did you mic the rings? I'd figure you had a piezo on the floor level, but I'd love to hear the thought process. Also, would it be ok to sample said rings? They have an amazing sound and it seems unlikely to be able to record ones myself any time soon :D
Thank you very much! Always trying to level up my film skills, its all new all the time, which is fun. I miced the rings with two Gefell 671 / M70 at rehearsal, which was great in catching the sound of movement through the air. That would have been lost with piezos. I then played them back at the performance, using the speed of the panning to match the speed of the rings to make them larger than life. Sure, sample away! I could release a sample set if I figure out good way to do that. (read: make me some money :-))
Thank you! Very interesting process. I really need to work up my micing skills, my degree in film left me with some practical ways to record sound but they don't seem to be very applicable to further artistic uses :D I don't know how far you've thought about the sample pack, but a couple of easy ways I've come across are to use Patreon (to set up some patron-only posts, which show after like say 5€ contribution that give a download link) or even via Bandcamp. I can only speak for myself, but I'd be very interested in a Hainbach sample pack!
Fantastic work! Do you remember which pa speakers were used there? I’m in the market for a small but quality sounding pa system for venues similar to the one in this video.... Thank you
Hey Heinbach! I remembered I watched this some years ago and purchasing the Koma Poltergeist brought me here to watch it again today. Wish I could’ve heard you jam out with your “test equipment equivalent” eurorack setup thru this awesome mixer. Have you heard of Quark? It’s a plug-in for doing quad mixes or encoding or decoding a quad mix. Wonder if you’d do a quad album in the future? Anywho, hope you’re doing well and hope to see/hear more from you. Ps: love the Assertion album.
Hi Lenny, I had tonging that back after the performance. I have played one more quad show since with a Serge mixer, that was fun! As to a quad album - if I get the chance to play a show again with quad I would release that.
The magic of editing :-). In the audience only shots I recorded the audience that was in attendance 15 minutes after the single wheel performance. Most of them had been in the room for 45 min and were zoning out to the massive major drone and minimal performance by the artists that followed this part. Also, there were a whopping 56 performances all over the place, everyone was moving through and around the massive building all the time.
Ahhh. Anyway, weiter so.
I totally forgot German people use their thumbs as number 1 when showing a number. Initially I was like "No Hainbach... That's 3, quadro means 4." Then, momentarily, "Oh no, Hainbach is missing a finger! Poor guy!" And finally, "Oh right, German counting, duh."
The ultimate implementation of the idea that you can never have too many VCAs? Especially with quadraphonic sound? I can see how it is ideal for the most flexible quadraphonic experimentation though. I'll have to find a much cheaper solution. How would you do it without that module?
Well, today I saw the Serge Quadrophonic Mixer. 8-Channel Quad mixer, absolutely gorgeous. I would borrow that :-). Else, the Malekko JAG can do Quad if you combine it with VCAs, and the Intellijel Planar apparently. Or the KMix.
Really cool to see modular being used in this context and to make this kind of music. Very inspiring!
Thank you very much!
This is just beautiful humanity on display. All around. Cheers, Hainbach.
Thank you! That video meant a lot for me to make
Performance + Sound = Great Vibe!
I'm really enjoying the new path you've taken showing more of yourself, the setups and the performances you do. Great stuff Stefan!
Thank you! Its a lot of work but fun also.

Thanks for the feedback, lurking around the Patreon site now and figuring out how to set this up.
Would have loved to experience this. Thanks for the video :)
Thanks for watching, Ben!
I could listen to this for days too!!
Really nice and inspiring !!
+Francois Benner thank you very much!
Very nice. Thanks for the talk through too.
Thank you! Slowly getting the hang of the talking about music part.

I only had one borrowed for this project, so all I know is in here sadly. Enjoy it?

Mmh, Patreon you say? Gotta look into that.

Nice work 😊
The audience looks like they all had just gotten evicted!

i think you mean evicted from their home ... it's virtually impossible where they are, plus rents are still affordable there...
Hainbach goes 8D

so from the outputs of the poltergeist you went directly to the speakers?
I used a simple Yamaha mixer in between to have xlr

I did not even realize that difference until it was pointed out to me two weeks ago by an English guy referencing "Inglorious Basterds".
Great video tho. If you're into unique VCFs you should check out the Sisters filter from Mannequins. It's great!
I have been dreaming of a Mannequins setup. But my travels took me to Bananaland. :-)
Also a ridiculously expensive module.
Yeah, but there are like 32 VCAs in there. Crazy in parts alone. I wish I could have kept it, but it was a loan only.

aaah, I see. Thanks. Keep up the awesome music!
Finally! A payoff for all the Baby Boomers who bought quadraphonic systems in the 1970s and still have them. lol
Well, live they are fantastic to play on. :-) And as John Cage said: "For me fun starts at five speakers".
