@@soupairradio You do realize that most so-called debt traps come from western nations right? Just look at sri lanka where 90% owned by western private companies.
China offers to build infrastructures mostly for free so that both countries can do business in the future whereas western countries offer to give lectures about LGBTQ+ and democracy while offering loans with high interests or their companies to sweep in cheaply since the countries have no capital to develop themselves.

There was a time when the Portugese were trying to pull this stuff in India in Goa. We attacked with our army and chucked them out within 2 years of independence, and the world tacitly supported us. America, once itself a British colony, one who celebrated the 4th of July every year only condemned us for a week and then it was over. America's ultimatum to the British to exit their colonies as a pre-condition to their participation in the second world war was also helpful in bringing about a bloodless end to colonialism here. The Britons switched sides and sided with us, explicitly stating that their colonialism was driven by economical reasons, not primarily by ideological reasons. Now that they did not have economic interests to protect, they no longer supported colonialism.
I don't know why Africa maintains such close ties with their former colonizers. It's great to see that the winds of change in how African people think of themselves are finally taking hold. You can achieve anything you set your mind to, may you achieve true independence from undue foreign influence soon. In the words the great late DMX, "when it's your time to go, you go." That time was yesterday. I long for the day when African start giving their children African, rather than French and Arabian names. The majority of us are not named Molly Hogwarts Singh or Abdoul Abdeli Sinbad or Ali Baba or sum like dat.
