- NASA will host a media briefing at 10 a.m. EDT on Thursday, Sept. 14, at the agency’s headquarters in Washington to discuss the findings from an unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP) independent study team it commissioned in 2022.

It baffles me a government agency can legally keep secrets from the public tax payers. The government has gotten too comfortable keeping secrets from the public.
Consider, for one example, the design of an atomic bomb. While the USSR stole that technology from us, it would have taken them much longer and cost them a lot more if they had to begin from scratch. So keeping that information secret, had a result of protect US citizens. If the government has adequate understanding to state if UAPs are a result of interstellar travel, or earth-based time travel, that small difference would have the result of focusing research efforts of US adversaries in a particular direction, thus halving the cost and time of their research. Consider the impact on our security of that.

@@TCGcartExactly, sometimes tax payers can’t be trusted to act rationaly when receiving news. For example, when COVID started, our government (I’m not in the US) told everybody that masks were useless against the virus and that people shouldn’t wear them. A few months later, they were saying the exact opposite and people started freaking out. Truth is, they knew from the jump that masks were going to protect the population, but since COVID started so abruptly we didn’t have enough masks for everybody, so they lied so that people wouldn’t freak out and create a shortage in masks. They wanted to keep the masks in hospitals where mask wearing was absolutely necessary.

So, if they don't know what these UAP are, how they actually know that these UAP are not extaterrestrial?
They’ve never said none of the UAP are definitely not extraterrestrial, only that there’s no evidence that any of them are. People tend to assume that unknown = alien, but it can just as well be something mundane going unrecognized

@@marekkos3513 Saying there’s no evidence is perfectly clear and neutral because that’s what it always comes down to. Anything more than that is wanting them to give it more credence than it has because you want to believe that. Just because aliens are popular doesn’t mean the things people tend to think about them are true. Isn’t it strange how after 80 years of alleged sightings, we still only get blurry blobs despite how much our abilities for observing have improved?

The reason they gave during the Q&A section made sense to me, for why they wouldn't publicly name the newly appointed head of reseach / AARO liaison. As you can even see in the recorded chat logs alone, there is a lot of negative sentiment being spammed in there, and we all know from this age of social media we are in that anyone who is named and a public figure will get trolling, hate, and even threats from the psychos out there. So publicly broadcasting that name would invite death threats and insane amounts of trolling, or showing up at the persons house etc. Why would they share it in this venue? I sure wouldn't. :D

This televised "report" was a JOKE. We were treated and spoken to as if we are children, answers to questions were borderline condescending, and no real info was given about the subject other than NASA's plea to get more funding. They touted complete "transparency" but talked in circles, and when asked who the newly assigned director would be for this effort, they refused to name him by name. Transparency??? Right! They claimed there was no evidence to point to UAPs as extraterrestrial, but admitted that they didn't know what they are. Just the fact that they said that means they talk out of both sides of their mouths. I no longer trust NASA for anything. I worked on the SLS Program for NASA for years and it was an incredible money-grab for the government. Taxpayer money grab. This is no different. I will be contacting Congress people and Senators to report my extreme displeasure of NASA's behavior and actions on this topic. If I could, I would vote to defund them now.

You're feel treated like a child because you behave and talk like one. You don't even entertain the idea that they simply don't know more but pretend the absence of evidence is evidence in itself. It's not.
Also maybe, just maybe, it's simply not their job to announce who's going to be in charge of this investigation.

I did indeed work for NASA, and I have seen what goes on, first-hand, when it comes to anything that may impact their funding and have seen the results of pressures that steer what they say and do.
Hi, I'm a professional researcher and academic who studies UFOs and UAP. I enjoy speaking publicly about my work, but every time I do I also receive a number of hostile and threatening responses - in my email, on my social media, and even in the snail mail - that always leave me thinking about my safety. My credibility and integrity are always assaulted; more seriously, there are always threats of physical harm, not only to myself but to friends, family, and colleagues. It disinclines me from speaking and sharing more and more. I know my colleagues experience the same thing. If you feel like we don't trust you - it's because we sort of don't.
For the record, I have always been an outspoken advocate for the UFO community, and believe that most witnesses have had real experiences that they can't explain in conventional terms, and deserve to be taken seriously. Yet, expressing even the slightest amount of caution about how we approach these experiences brings threats of serious harm. Imagine what it's like for people who are even a little more skeptical or cautious.

For an agency that's paid to look at the skies, it's odd that they don't have their own historic data to look through. You would think they would come across at least 1 or 2 strange artifacts while surveilling the skies.

What are all the factors/data that went in to that conclusion? I happen to believe it is probably correct The details should have been made public as part of this commendable initiative.
