I am glad I came across your page could not find anything on +120 SLO mo shooting , im going to need so fire luts for color grading I really like that glossy look
In recording settings I only have an option for 24p and for the frame rate I don't have an option above 100fps. I have the same exact sony mark III camera. Does anybody know why this is the case? I don't think I need to do any software update.

@@TristanBarrocks ok I followed your instructions with the S&Q settings and all... I turned File Format to “XAVC S HD” and Recording settings you “60p 50M” this should get me 60fps right? I record and film is normal
If you added some good lighting you can expose for the windows and lower your ISO to get way more resolution and better color. But, you already know that.
I noticed shooting in 4k in S AND Q. when you get to final cut, trying to slow or speed up a 4k clip it comes out glitchy , however shooting in 1080 p 120 fps you can slow down a clip or speed the clip up and its smooth however shooting in 1080 is not as glass as 4k so I guess when you shoot a scene shoot 2 takes in 4k and one take in 1080 120 fps so you won't miss the butter slow motion . shooting in 1080 120 you don't have to shoot in s and q at all.
Thank you for your feedback. I'm sorry that this 20 minute video with detail failed to provide you with one step that most if not all people understand how to do. 🤷🏾♂️
Hi mate , why on my Sony a7iii only 100 frame rate , not 120 , just don't exist , I have 30.01 version , should I update to 30.10 ? Or something else ? Thanks
I've set all the same settings, but the recorded footage is normal speed...the card that i have is all right - class 10, U3, xdxc. What's up with that, does anyone know?
If it is normal speed it may not mean that you did anything wrong. Please try bringing the video clips into your editing program and then check to see the frame rate there. If you see 59.9 or 120 fps then you are good and only have to slow down the clip.

so, if i'm shooting and on that specific location of shooting I may want to slow the clip down in post do i need to change my camera to s&q or can it stay at movie mode?
Hey thanks for the heads up. I realized this later as I got even more familiar with the camera. I think that I may make another video to compare the two. IMO the loss of quality is important but depends on your end platform.
If you are using this method than all you have to do is goto S&Q mode. If you are using it another way please watch this video - th-cam.com/video/bFP0uhBi8DY/w-d-xo.html
I believe that it is disabled when you are in that mode. The good thing is that you really don't need it because once you slowdown the footage its so slow that you only need a few seconds in focus at a time.
Hey thank you for the question. If you follow this particular method the clips have already been conformed to slow motion inside of the camera. So all you have to do is import them into FCPX and they will be smooth and sexy.
Putting this comment here as well as in my reply to someone earlier. If I want 120 FPS I have to go to NTSC mode. I see that if I'm shooting in PAL mode in the UK that going to NTSC for the 120FPS means I will have to format my card or delete the footage already on it, even if I take the card out before the NTSC reboot and put it back in after, unless I'm mistaken. Seems I may have to use a seperate card just to go for the slo-motion shot that I need to film film for an upcoming project I have. A bit messy, not sure if there's another way I can do all this without having to use a seperate card or risk deleting the other footage that I'll be shooting that day, or just go to 100 FPS?
Focusing is hard in slow motion because the image is much softer. The way I get around it is by using the focus peaking settings in the camera. The other thing is that when you are shooting at this speed things don't need to be in perfect focus all the time. IT actually helps with the effect IMO
You can create you're own custom menu and the Sony menu really isn't as messy as it used to be. And this is coming from a long term GH5 user who has moved over. Also SQ isn't best way to shoot 120p
Thanks for your comments. I like the custom menus but I just wanted to show people how to get in and out of slow motion in a basic way. You are defiantly right about getting better slow motion.
I shot a gym commercial at 120p.....do I have to make any settings as I open new session in Final cut pro x? do I need to change FPS? I tried to import and drop footage into the time line and it keeps asking me to make changes to something?
Hey great questions. So when you bring it into final cut pro x it asks you wether or not you would like to change the project settings to match the frame rate of the clip. In this case your clips are 120FPS. You don't want to do that because you will not be able to slow the clip down to ultra slow motion. What you want to do is either keep the project at 24FPS or change it to 30, or 60FPS. This will allow you to slow it down within the project.
Naff Media hey thanks for your question. You don’t need to be in a specific movie mode to shoot in slow motion. Those just control the look or colour of the footage not the frame rate.

Hey great questions. So when you bring it into final cut pro x it asks you wether or not you would like to change the project settings to match the frame rate of the clip. In this case your clips are 120FPS. You don't want to do that because you will not be able to slow the clip down to ultra slow motion.
