Hey Scykoh, you teach me a lot about Pokémon so I wanna try and teach you a little bit as well. Maybe you already know this, but there's a reason for the name of the first gym leader. His name is FALKNER right? In german, a "Falkner" is somebody who's hunting with hawks (a hawk in german is called "Falke", thus the name). So FALKNER being a bird trainer and basicly using birds to fight is a reference to these people. There are still "Falknershows" here in germany where they show how well they trained their hawks and show the tricks they can do and stuff. I hope somebody learned something reading this, have a great day

I began emulating pokemon gold on my phone, joey CONSTANTLY calls me whenever I look at the emulation app, like...CONSTANTLY...I completed the first gym, and I think I took like +15 calls from Joey so far..talking about catching more pokemon...

Ursaring is a great physical attacker, one of the best. Unfortunately, its overshadowed by snorlax, as is pretty much everything else in gen 2. Snorlax is the king of gsc.
How did I only just realize this? Gen II added phone numbers and re-battling trainers. This encourages backtracking to get any EXP you can possibly get. This explains the sudden difficulty spike near the end of the game, where there are Lv. 28~32 wild Pokemon but also Lv. 38~40 trainers. You were supposed to get the best possible phone numbers during the adventure so you could grind against trainers, whose Pokemon already seem to have a heightened EXP yield over wild Pokemon of the same level as well as being a higher level overall than wild Pokemon.

I don't know why but I find Game Boy Pokémon games's playthroughs sort of relaxing at some degree. It has this calm and simple atmosphere in it. Most of the time, I feel a lot better after watching those videos but I don't really know how to explain it. Maybe that's also why I am so fond of the second generation, besides the fact that Pokémon Crystal was the first Pokémon game I played until the end.
The best description of Dunsparce comes from Chuggaaconroy saying how for a Normal Type he has a lot of untapped potential but he desperately requires either an Evolution or fuck in the current Meta a Z-Crystal. Now whenever I replay Gen II I like to make every play thru different where I only catch the pokemon with the absolute lowest encounter rate and unironically try and make them apart of my team I don't ever recall Poliwag and Dunsparce especially being this early in the game considering I normally go for stuff like Phanpy and Growlithe. I've also unironically used a Stantler on my Team once. A Quilfish as well.
I would advise using Gastly and mean look for Teddiursa and Phanpy, as Hypnosis can miss and they can run. PLUS, Gastly can use hypnosis after using mean look, and make it easier to catch them.
Funnily enough, if you had kept Poliswag on your team then your party would have been exactly the same as mine from my most recent play through as my team consisted at the beginning of Chikorita, Poliwag and Teddiursa, and they were all on my team the whole way through. I love the fact that you can get Teddiursa so early in Crystal as it's a real powerhouse. In fact, many Gen 2 normal types are pretty good to use, like Teddiursa and Miltank.
Hey Scykoh. I have a little twist you could put on this series. In homage to the 1st generation to introduce breeding and baby pokemon, you could only use baby pokemon and their evolutions on your team e.g. teddiursa, Phanpy, Smoochum, Pichu, tyrogue, etc... Favourite pokemon game, and favourite TH-camr. Keep up the good work man :D
I honestly didn't know registering Joey's phone number had real use. Throughout my one playthrough of Gold, I thought it was just a joke and something to annoy you with and I regretted ever doing it. Too bad I don't have the game anymore... Aw, I was SO hoping you would have had Poliswag on your team and finally have a playthrough with your favorite Pokemon when it evolves to Poliwrath.
Hey Scykoh, this made me want to play with you and relive Gen 2!! I have cyndiquil, poliwag, and Zubat so far. I'm a little ahead, but gen 2 is my absolute favorite gen. about to take on the freaking Miltank!
