The best Radiohead song IMO, close to Weird Fishes. There's something about Radiohead's 2 songs that include 3 arpeggiated guitars

Oh man, I WISH I could hear OK Computer for the first time again. I was a huge Jeff Buckley fan and was devastated when he died. Not long after that I started hearing a song on the radio that blew me away and I wondered if it was an unreleased Jeff Buckley song. I always managed to miss the back announcement so I didn't know for sure. The music press I used to read mentioned nothing about any posthumous Jeff Buckley songs but all of them were raving about the new Radiohead album. A few reviewers whose music taste I respected were calling it the album of the century. So I went out and bought it on a whim, not knowing anything about the band or what they sounded like. I got home, plonked the cd in my stereo, put on my headphones, and laid on my bed to listen. When "Paranoid Android" came on I realised it was the song I was hearing on the radio that I thought may have been Jeff Buckley. I listened to the album all the way through. When it ended, and the last ding on "The Tourist" faded out, I laid there for what seemed like an eternity. I couldn't move. I didn't want to move. I was dumbstruck and in utter awe. The reviewers were right. And when I finally summoned the strength to move again, I reached up to my stereo and pressed play again to make sure I didn't just imagine all of it. I hadn't. Even now, 25 years later, I still think it's the most perfect album I've ever heard. Watching you on this journey has brought me so much joy, and like I said in the first sentence, I wish I could hear it for the first time again.

Great reaction! It’s worth noting this album came out in 1997 dealing with themes of technology & a growing sense of disconnect taking the listener on a journey that, while abstract on first listen wraps up with “The Tourist” telling us to slow down. The fact it so accurately predicted the future makes the album even more brilliant (here we are today saying Ok Google and being more connected than ever, yet at the same time stuck in our own little bubbles)

An interesting element to this album is it’s circular theme. We start with the car crash, from which he comes back stronger and more alive, through to the tourist being implored to slow down. The final sound we hear is a triangle which confirms the closed circularity of the album. This is all in addition to the extraordinary sonic journey we are treated to, an album for all ages.

OK Computer came out during the height of Britpop. So much of Britpop was about the nostalgia for the 60s, particularly for one group and their mimicing of the Beatles. I respectfully submit that "Electioneering" is more Beatles-esque than anything that other band ever did. Perhaps that was the point of Radiohead recording and putting it on the album. 🤔

I can’t tell you how much joy this brought! OK Computer literally changed my life and I’ve always said “what I wouldn’t give to be able to go back and listen to it for the first time again”. Being granted the privilege of watching you listen for the first time, having your mind blown track after track, provided a glimmer of that wish. Thank you! Really awesome to go on that journey with you! Re: Electioneering, I’m sure others have said it in the comments but, while on its own it’s not a track I adore, in the flow of the album it comes alive and feels essential. As awesome as your listening experience was, I do think it might’ve been somewhat muted by pausing between tracks. Like something like Dark Side of the Moon, Radiohead definitely carefully constructed OK Computer to be listened to straight through. When you do, Electioneering suddenly becomes greater than the sum of its parts. If I could’ve given you one bit of advice prior to listening it would’ve been, if there are any two tracks to listen to back to back, straight through, it’s Fitter Happier through to Electioneering. Interested to hear your further thoughts after you relisten, uninterrupted (…maybe with some herbal accompaniment, if you partake).

Thank your the kind comment! Im really glad you enjoyed the video I had so much fun with this album. I have listened to this album front to back a multitude of times since this first listen and each time it does seem to feel more complete, each song rolls into each other so nicely. Fitter, happier rolls into electioneering in such an effective way much like you mentioned. Karma police has one of the best outros I have ever heard. I can't tell you how many times I have listened to that song since this reaction. So keen to continue the journey

@@cavemanjack This is such an outstanding album. As incredible it is to listen to for the first time, us older people were so blown away with how much of an evolution it was from their previous album "The Bends", which was also incredible but much more orthodox. We didn't know what hit us, but we knew it was a watershed moment in music. I saw Radiohead on this tour with Spiritualized opening for them and it was one of the most amazing concert experiences of my life.

I got into Radiohead properly this year too and without a doubt, Ok Computer is my favourite of them all. For me personally; because I was diagnosed as autistic this year right before I got around to listening to Ok Computer for the first time ever, by the the time I did - it felt like this album was made for me almost. Like the stars aligned through receiving that new insight about myself - and having it reflected back at me through an entire album.
I mean the themes of feeling like an outsider, being expected to conform in ways that I naturally can't, expressing how I feel politically.... I could go on. I had the same reaction to Paranoid Android like you did - that song is like..... wtf magnificent. My top tracks aside from that one though are Subterranean Homesick Alien (me in a song haha), No Surprises, Fitter, Happier, Karma Police and of course Exit Music (For a film).
You're doing RH justice and I love your reaction to this album in particular! I'd love to see you in future react to Nirvana's other two album's: Bleach and In Utero - and maybe some of their live performances too. I love RH so much but Nirvana and the Foo's are where it's at for me :) Thank you!

I’d defo give their Glastonbury 2003 set a watch, there’s the full video on TH-cam - that’s what really changed my opinion of the band massively it’s unbelievable, maybe not reaction-worthy though! Yeah man, this is the one. It might not end up being your favorite as not to jump the gun on what is to come, especially when you complete the next 3 album stretch with "In Rainbows" another seemingly flawless record - but plenty to look forward to, I mean some absolutely amazing songs and advanced level experimentation on the next 2 to come full circle (then you can watch the From the Basement live concert and see how they pull all this off, just the 5 of them - live - sounding even better and with no help - than most studio recordings - and really get to know the band and have an elevated connection and appeciation - something t look forward to.) Having the 3 guitars allow them to focus on that sonic landscape whether one of them is off on synth or many other instruments, and it culminates in this album truly, as you now have the true appreciation for how massive he change up to Kid A was. It threw me off for like 6 years, I didn't listen to them, while OK Computer remained my favorite album - till I stumbled on earlier mentioned In Rainbows concert and it smacked me back into full Radiohead obsession for a long time - got me going back, finally getting the tracks that eluded me on older albums and the new couple I missed. still is - but this next series is going to be great man. I too thought the one song I could live without was "Electioneering" - it takes many listens but it broke though for me and the tune stuck. OK Computer is so special because of the musical moments - one after the other - but to display a real theme of isolation, anxiety, paranoia, fear of not being a success without entering the machine of society, distress at the speeding up of life - predicting how things are now in a really unbelievable manner - alien abduction, escape - but to where....it is really a historically significant piece of art. They made a sound that still sounds brand new and had never existed before or again - and then they went and did the same thing 3 years later with Kid A - that alone is so impressive. Then to still be at it to this day (Thom and Jonny the 2 masterminds just did a side project under the name "The Smile" that is really nice, great stuff, and are touring N.America and I'll see them here in D.C. in December - also, I feel pretty confident there is one more album left in them and if not they'd tour one more time regardless, so you will get your chance to get floor seats and get way up lose - so worth it - and check and see if "The Smile" is coming worldwide to do the same with the front half of the band out having fun rocking out. I love this album for so many reasons, it just hooked me like nothing else ever has or will - just having Paranoid Android, Exit Music, and No Surprises would make this a solid listen but there is no filler, as I said I didn't hit that vibe with Electioneering until much later on, but it still works in the meantime with the interlude to break the album up a bit as it is really sucking you in and it needs a wall in the middle of sorts - ingredients of a master work. This is the first time Nigel Godrich and the band produced (he engineered "The Bends") and he has done every album since - that's a huge element to this album's flawless sonic execution and their entire journey moving forward - he is one of the best out there. Some songs like "Lucky" - man they will hit you so powerfully on the 3rd or 4th time around, you may never recreate the first listen but it just gets even better and better once you know all the words and can pick out the sounds - sometimes it is Thom overdubs (clearly the high falsetto stuff) and often it is Guitar 3 - the soundscape effect pedal master - Ed O'Brien like on that beautiful harmonizing on the closing track. It is a delight to watch - most normal - good hearted people like to share the things they love and that move them - so thank you for sharing it, it probably feels weird to have other people get so much gratification from your experience, it is kind of weird from this end - but screw it, I love it, sincere thanks, that made my week man. And the next up - Amnesiac is awesome - it was done at the same time as Kid A sessions but has a different feel, similarities, a different experience to Kid A - but man most important man are there some epic songs on there and some unbelievable musical dream worlds - I look forward to it. Thanks again, super fun!

Hey Mr Caveman, I watched some of your videos and I LOVED your reaction to Radiohead's albums, which btw is my favourite band of all time, the guys are awesome!
I want to recommend an album that is simply sensational. It's called "Blue Oyster Cult" which is self-titled from a metal band of the same name from the early 70s and this is simply one of my favourite albums of all albums (OK Computer comes first). They are extremely talented and underrated but they were very important to the world of music because they are considered pioneers of hard rock and they made many great bands emerge, Metallica for example has a cover of a song of theirs called "Astronomy" on the album Garage Inc. Anyway, these guys are amazing and this album is perfect, you might like it!!

Nobody loves radiohead on the first (or second) listen, but when you get it, you get it, and then you cant get enough.
What is missed by most is the story, its not that they just banged out amazing tunes, it was more a story of their first albums to their last.
All of their Music is their story, not so easy to pickup on but once understood it adds the extra dimension to the journey.
The live aspect is i think the first time i heard a band and liked it more than studio, glastonbury 2003 left a very deep scar.

I'd recommend Paranoid Android (Live) from UK music show "Jools Holland" it's a blast. Also, the live version of How To Disappear Completely, from the Canal+ 2001 TV special is stunning. The "From The Basement" sessions are amazing (performing In Rainbows and King of Limbs as two separate sessions); and out of the many to choose from, a 'real big live gig' that was captured really well is the Lollapalooza Berlin show 2016. Enjoy ... looking forward to the remaining reactions. Moon Shaped Pool will be a fitting finale. Maybe give the debut album by The Smile a reaction (okay they're not Radiohead but still very good)

OKC is an epic album. Top tier. The day I discovered it as a young kid, I wasn't even ready for what I was about to hear because I never heard an album like it ever before. Everything elese was always about singles and that one good song on the album while everything was just filler but OK Computer was a cinematic experience. I listened to the album every single day and then came news of Kid A and I was anticipated that and when the album droppped, it blew my mind so that is three punch combo of epicness from Radiohead: The Bends, OKC and Kid A and.....it didn't stop there, here comes Amnesiac and then In Rainbows. Also, there is a Radiohead Rabbit hole that you need to jump into and those are their B-sides and EP's and those songs are good enough to even have their own proper album as well. Radiohead is the only band where I love 95% percent of their discography.

Great reaction Caveman, as for Paranoid Android, yes it was and is one of their biggest hits and blew everyone away when this album was released but that's true of the entire album. This is always listed somewhere in the greatest 100 albums of the 20th century and usually somewhere in the top 10 or 20. Paranoid Android also has an award winning music video that I suggest taking the time to watch, along with No Surprises and Karma Police.
At bit of context for Exit Music, it was created for the ending credits of Romeo and Juliet with Claire Danes and Leonardo Dicaprio, but wasn't included with films soundtrack, so Thom said screw you and added it to this album, lol. The other track that helps to know a key piece of information is, Lucky, and what you need to know is, it's about James Bond, 007 himself!!!

This is the music that made my world. I was 15 when I heard this in '97. The music we love when we're teenagers seems to have a peculiar power, as Paul Simon once said. You've apparently done a bunch of albums from the 90s. I see you've done Blur's 13 as well. Here's a few others I'd like to recommend if you haven't yet heard them. Homogenic by Bjork. Odelay by Beck. Portishead's self titled album (their second album). Terror Twilight by Pavement, which was actually produced by the same man who produced Ok Computer and every Radiohead album since. One more, not from the 90s. A Light For Attracting Attention by The Smile. If you haven't heard that, The Smile is Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood and Tom Skinner. It's the most recent thing they've done. They actually just finished their tour of that album. Oh and since you like hip hop, if you haven't checked it out, Black Up by Shabazz Palaces. Again, not from the 90s. That's all I can really think of at the moment. Hope you try some of them out if you haven't heard them. Also by the way, that instrument you were referring to on Climbing Up The Walls when you said "is that a synth or a guitar" .. that's a synth :) Been fun watching you react to this.

Loving your reactions - watching for second time - the key thing for me with Radiohead is they make me smile at their virtuosity in the middle of their songs. Not many artists do that to me 👍
