  • While at our teardrop campout in Colorado with Timberleaf Trailers, we did a Jeep trail ride up to 13,000 ft Mosquito Pass outside of Leadville. We also had some fellow Timberleaf campers join us with their Jeeps. This was a very rocky/bumpy trail but doable in both stock and modified Jeeps. This took us about 3 hours to go up and back.

Great videos, hard to find 2 door content ha ha! I just picked up a 2014 2door with 50k on it, super clean, excellent maint records. Noticed a hint of hot antifreeze and hot oil smell on first couple trips, then a couple weeks later after a camping trip we had a super cold snap, we were heading into town and pulled onto the highway noticed burning oil smell and blue smoke behind Jeep. Oil cooler completely let go, was puking oil and covered the underside in 30 seconds, super glad it happened 5 minutes from home and not on the trail or in traffic on freeway! Not a bad repair but wish my shop was heated. Surprised how much oil will set in the engine valley, probably why it can be an on/off drip issue. Pretty common issue with the 3.6 I guess, parts are cheap enough though.

That was our issue as well! Those stock coolers are garbage! Good to hear you were close to home 👍🏻

Air compressor should be next on your list so you can air down. Helps a ton with the rough roads. Sounds like your oil cooler is leaking, common issue with that motor. When it's time to replace it do your plugs too since you're right there.

Did you air down? That was a rough ride with a great payoff at the top!

We didn't but definitely discussed doing so. Problem is we don't have an air compressor yet! Next on the list 👍🏻

Power tank time! Being aired down definitely makes that trail easy and soft-ish.

That looks like a really rough road that I probably shouldn’t take my truck on but totally would for the views and the glory.
Bummer about the oil leak, saw in another comment that it magically went away hopefully it’s gone for good or was just the plastic oil cooler like Davidk mentioned.

Take your time, should be fine 👌🏻 TOTALLY worth it! Hoping that's it and for an easy fix!

You'll be fine. Made it to the summit 3 times in my truck. If you're inexperienced it'll probably scare you, but like Wiseman said, take your time, don't be afraid to take the easier line and have fun.

@@JacobTemple_CE Thanks. I could probably make it up there, may not have any teeth left though 🤣. I made it up to Gallagher Head Lake last fall and that was definitely a challenge getting a stock full-size long bed up there.

Hey just stumbled upon your video, looks like an awesome adventure. I couldn’t help noticing your stereo, looks aftermarket and fits in the stock dash opening. What brand/model is it? Thanks.

@@WheresWisemanthat 3.6 L engine has a plastic oil cooler just behind the filter and it runs in the V of the engine. It is prone to cracking and leaking. There are metal ones available that take some work to replace.

I lived at the foot of Mosquito Pass in Alma and always planned to drive it and never did. It’s the second highest pass in Colorado and is often snow covered until August. The weekend l planned to go up it snowed. 🫤
