  • Work is a track both Janet Jackson & Bryan Loren worked on in the early sessions for the "Rhythm Nation 1814" album, but went underdeveloped and left as a demo due to stronger tracks emerging from later sessions.
The inital beat used in Work went through several iterations, with each landing on separate projects. Bryan Loren originally worked on the drums for Janet in 1989, but it went unused in the final cut of the album.
Loren then decided to rework the track for his own album that released in 1992, titling the song "For You".
Between 1989-1994, Bryan presented the track to Michael Jackson for possible inclusion on the Decade/Dangerous/HIStory projects, renaming the track "The Verdict".
(This is an assumption, but I believe "The Verdict" was shown to MJ between 1989-1990 along with other Loren tracks, and was taken out of the vault in 1994 for possible work and inclusion on HIStory.)

I'd love to hear a stripped down version of Janet's 80s stuff, like this. With less reverb etc.

I don't get why they left out this great track.. It's even better compared to the actual album in my opinion

Cause it has nothin to do with the themes of "Rhythn Nation".
Same reason "You need me" and "The skin games were b-sides.

When I first listened to it, when I noticed the elements, I realized that it was the Byran Loren work.

Janet actually gave this song to Michael for his demo "The Verdict"
