Glad i found your channel. Curious if you think 1/2 inch mesh is small enough for star finches to not escape? We're building a very big outdoor aviary with stainless mesh for my pet cockatiels and java sparrows. Thinking of adding maybe a couple more finch species. My cockatiels are super chill 😊
For most finches I would recommend 1/4 size mesh. When their chicks fledge they are usually small enough that they can squeeze through or get their heads stuck in anything bigger than 1/4 mesh.
Yes it was a learning curve for me. Once I figured it out I got several good clutches from different pairs. The key to success privacy/lots of egg food and soaked seed daily/breed in individual pairs separate from each other.
Glad to be here. I have a pair of stars. Not been breeding.
They are definitely tricky to get going.
Hey Birdnerd, could you please make a video about breeding Owl Finches or st.helenas waxbills please? Thanks
Great idea! I have never owned any at Helena waxbills but I have owned and bred owl finches in the past.
👍
Great video! My pair also just fledged 4 babies couple days ago and they have been so prolific.
That’s so awesome. Do you breed them individually or in an aviary?
Thank you for that... we have a pair of Red faced and a pair of Yellow faced.. .but yet to give us any chicks... Cheers for sharing...
Thanks. Yeah they definitely seem to be tricky to breed.
Thank you for the informatiion awesome!
Thank you for watching.
