    Couple of ex soldiers have told me they use to keep the speed loader in the centre loop of the ammo pouches.
    I cut those horrible C hooks off and zip tied the pouches to my PLCE belt using the channels the hooks were in previously. Plus the outer bungee and inner utility strap mods as you describe.

      Similar but different. Alice gear. Back in 80s all canvas load carrying gear. One of 2 answers when I was in the Australian Army. 1. Use an awl and sew every component together. 2. After the pain from unpicking that as kit wore out to put replacement water bottle cover on belt for eg, heavy duty press studs

    The D-rings at 14.37 could be used as attachment points for the yoke instead of the belt providing it was the middle pouch. Another great set of videos 👍🏻

    An improvement from 58 webbing but still required personal modifications to make it work in the field.

    The side straps on the yoke were a massive design flaw,the tighter they were pulled the more the belt would bow out from the back.that is why you always had a gap you could get your hand down between your back and the belt.

    Ref the loops on the outer side. I do remember using a bungee cord and passing it through. It also will pass underneath the plastic buckle on the front of the pouches too. Not sure if it was designed that way but it seemed to be the right way to do it. The folding shovels were ok I thought. I first bought a surplus bundeswehr one at a market when on adventure training in Wales. At the time we were still using 58 pattern kit (this was 1990) so still had the older shovels and pick axes. So a folding shovel was space age technology for us 😁 now I never used the green PLCE but was eventually issued the DPM stuff in 1994.it was ok but pretty much stayed in my locker,I could get away with using a chest rig in my unit at that time

    The yoke you have is either trials or an early issue version, because everything after 1990 was codura. The shovel and carrier was 1st issued I believe in 94.

    I saw guys at BATUS using paracord to tie the various pouches together then a bungee cord from the rear tab on the ammo pouch around the rear to either the rear of the other ammo pouch or the commander/admin pouch. Some guys actually ran the bungee cord under the pouch locking system which stopped all the pouches from bouncing around and allowed you to fully access all your ammo/commander pouches, without extra tie downs getting in the way. I was a CF Medical Technician posted to CFB Suffield/BATUS Medical Centre Sept 1997 till Sept 2009…. Just in case everyone thinks Im some brilliant type guy! 🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓…Infantryman … 🤓🤓😎😎…💂‍♂️🪖⛑️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇨🇦

    Great video as always Simon! We were most impressed when this replaced '58 Pattern. I never realised that there were subsequent versions issued before the DPM stuff came in (around 1995 if I remember?) so I'm interested to see what those improvements to the green stuff actually were. I remember people being pretty confused about the difference between the water bottle pouch and the utility pouch - as a result they often got used interchangeably. I guess if you only had one ammo pouch then it was obvious you could only put the utility pouch at the front as a replacement but, as we had 2 ammo pouches, it was never apparent. Anyway, bring on the next video!

    • @RiflemanMoore
      @RiflemanMoore  ปีที่แล้ว

      Many thanks Sean, the interim design before the DPM set was introduced brought in the changes to the way items attached to the belt and removed the need for left and right ammunition pouches but was still made in plain green.

    • @seanr2968
      @seanr2968 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RiflemanMoore Yes, I think I remember that now you mention it. Do you know if the green stuff was IRR? If not, I guess that justified the expensive replacement of the green set with the DPM set after just 5 years...?

    One other item was issued was two utility straps for usage on those loops that bungees were attached to the same sort of way the 58 pattern utilitys were used they had the sane adjustement as the yoke for tightening they couldalso be attached to the rocket packs on the outside, another way the bayonet frog could be attached is at the bottom of the yoke straps so the bayonet could be pulled out from the rear of the back .

    Great video!
    Looking forward to part III showing how the bergen side pouches (AKA rocket pouches) attached directly to the webbing.
    I've always wondered was there a way to connect the rocket pouches directly to the webbing, as the placement of the nexus clips seem to indicate, instead of carrying them on their dedicated yoke over the webbing.
    Just one thing though, and it appears to not be in this video, but i've seen the utility pouches also have a nexus clip in the same manner as the ammo pouches.
    I wonder is this for the purpose of attaching the bergen side pouches also?

    • @RiflemanMoore
      @RiflemanMoore  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The buckle on the utility pouch is for that purpose yes, I mentioned it in part I but realise I did not point it out here. I'll be covering that in part III.

      I use plce yokestraps to affix 2 shitbins to a molle belt, I'd think that they probably did similar.

    At what point were the ambidextrous ammo pouches introduced? There was also a pistol holster that could replace an ammo pouch.

    • @RiflemanMoore
      @RiflemanMoore  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The ambidextrous ammunition pouches appeared with the next issue of the equipment, still made in green.

    What was the problem with the C hooks. They were on 58 pattern, didn't rub or anything.

    • @gorbalsboy
      @gorbalsboy ปีที่แล้ว +3

      They actually did rub sir especially during basic training,most infantry would tape a strip of sleeping mat on the belt covered by a scrim net ,the guys that didn't were mostly remf,s, great series look forward to the rest, all the best

    The velcro on the pouches was meant to be used when doing cqb or in battle etc the idea being that you could open and close the pouch quickly when reloading your rifle.

    I went to my local hardware store and got myself a short garden shovel about the same size as the 58 pattern shovel, I would rather use that than the tri-fold, to many working parts. If by chance anyone knows anyone at BATUS (military or civilian) that might know where a guy could find a 59 pattern shovel and pick I would be interested in knowing. 💂‍♂️🪖⛑️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇨🇦

    I got an aluminum cup for the issued water bottle, I took that cup and beat it till it was able to fit the base of the 58 water bottle, plastic cup on top as usual.This gave me 2 metal cup to boil water, and 2 plastic cup for drinking/eating. I was gifted through the BATUS Dental staff 2 brand new 3 litre Camelbacks (DPM & MTP). Came across an Israeli system (pre OCT 2023) that uses QUICK Detachment (QD) connectors for attaching the hose to the actual camel back, and the other end of the hose to the mouth piece. The best part of the system you can still wear it to fill it up. Remove the mouthpiece QD attach the 750ml plastic coke bottle with the source rubber cap that attaches to the front hose QD. You just then life the bottle into the air and the bottle drained into the camel-bak. “Source” sells 1 litre camel-baks which cuts down on water require. 💂‍♂️🪖⛑️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇨🇦

    Skill testing question?…. In the pouch locking system, if the plastic loop you placed the single or double attachment through if it got broken was there a quick fix to it or was the QM going to replace the US pouch. 💂‍♂️🪖⛑️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇨🇦.
