MAKS 2017 - New Diesel Powered Yak-152 Trainer Aircraft - HD 50fps

  • Flight by test-pilot Oleg Kononenko of the new the Yak-152 trainer aircraft, on July 19th at MAKS 2017 in Zhukovsky.
    The Yakovlev Yak-152 is a Russian primary trainer aircraft from the Yakovlev Design Bureau, part of the Irkut Corporation. The prototype Yak-152 first flew on 29 September 2016, powered by a RED Aircraft A03 diesel engine, rated at 500 shp (370 kW). The aircraft has been ordered by the Russian Air Force to replace its current Yakovlev Yak-52 trainers.
    In 2018, after two years of flight tests, the German RED engine selection is questioned as relations between Moscow and the West are chilling, but a Russian alternative like the VMZ M-9F piston or Klimov VK-800 turboprop would require large adaptations.

    A diesel-powered plane. Very unique. And by Yakolev, the makers of my favorite WW2 Soviet fighter the Yak-3.

      Yup!
      This is really the evolution of the Yak-52 trainer plane, but in a fashion more similar to turboprops trainers like the Super Tucano or PC-21, although this one is diesel powered.

      @@Airguardian While a diesel plane is interesting and made the plane look like a WW2 Yak I do think they lost a opportunity here not making a long nose turboprop version with armed capacity. I guess Embraer has to eat... The counterinsurgency market wants things like the Super Tucano or the AT 6 Wolverine. Russia has been fighting insurcency in some places and a prop plane with combat capacity would be useful. Armed Yak 134 and a turboprob enlarged version of the Yak 152 would be more useful than SU 34 or even SU 25s for fighting terrorists. They will sell like hotcakes in the developing world.

      @@Airguardian It's a shame aerodiesels did not seem tp be successful putside single engined trainer and private civilian aircraft. People forget that some versions of the Petlyakov Pe-8 heavy bomber used ACh-30 V12 aero diesels. There also used, but later removed, the unsuccessful turbocharged M-40 engines due to poor high alt. performance. Sadly aero diesels didn't seem to take off back then eother in large aircraft. Though there were airships that used aerodiesels as far as I know.

      @@ricardosoto5770 they do have yak 130 for light attack aircraft. also yak 152 is kind of dead so they will need something else and your idea may yet see the light of day

    Every country has a reason for pride, and thi is a wonderful feeling. We have sturdy lines of sports and mimlitary aviation, and civilian, after a devastating, catastrophic period of "Perestroika" of the USSR is being restored. "Wings of Russia" is a brand, a slogan of the early 20th century. We will keep our brand, our authority. It's unavoidable!!!

      Some countries have more and/or better reasons than others ;)
      In any case, gotta be careful with nationalism/patriotism. It often leads people to ditch critical thinking, but as long as that is not the case, all good!!

      The fear of error often lleads to the error itself.
      Worse is not Nazism.... , for with conviction you are not born, it is brought into consciousness either by manipulation or dementia. There is a chance to reconsider "their" delusions.... or to gain a foothold in them. Life is scary *hypocrisy* . A rerson will always get what he deserves, but often this is already irreparrable.

      I haven't read the article but have already noticed quite a few spanish guys liking to boast about the deeds of those in the Blue Division who served under Hitler in his fight against the Soviets, at Krasniy Bor, precisely. Quite disgusting IMO.

    Very interesting aircraft I never saw before. It looks and sounds very special. But in Germany a diesel-powered aircraft would have no chance to fly due of the current diesel scandal. ;)

    Why don't you say what the engine is? Is this the Red A-03? If it is it's only the second airplane I've ever seen that engine in and oddly enough the other airplane is a yak 152.

      @@Airguardian Fair enough but I still think it's odd but there's all this hoopla around this engine and it's only found in two airplanes both of which are Yak 152. My guess is this engine just having certification problems not to mention practicality problems that there aren't many airports you can show up at an expected fuel up on diesel. Their website looks like vaporware to me.
      By the way just how many Hero of Russia test pilots named Oleg Kononenko are there? This one looks sloppy as hell.

      @@E266PD самолетов будет ровно столько, сколько нужно будет ВКС РФ. А двигатель заменили на ниболее подходящий дизельный из за типа топлива - керосина, поскольку такое же топливо потребляет и второй самолет из учебной пары - реактивный.
      А движок? Уверен, что будет и свой, но приемлемого своего дизеля для этого самолета пока нет...
      А покуда вы ноете, что мол "разграбили" (то, чего никогда до этого не было), кто то работает над этим движком!

    До чего докатились. В центральной России уже нет ни одного завода, который способен сделать этот маленький самолетик, все разрушены, разграблены, деградировали. Вся надежда на Иркутск и Комсомольск на Амуре. Вот он результат правления буржуев с 91-го. И даже этот самолетик много лет никак не запустят в серию.

      @@fixanypc You don't have to go negative in a roll. If anything the pilot was risking negative in the way he flew the rolls. The engine is not limited negative. The oil is always where you need it.

      I agree but likely the first display of 01. Only wants to demonstrate rate of roll and turn radius. The cockpit interior and overall concept sells on the ground. The limiting factor maybe speed/power setting, so the barrel roll needed another 20kts for safety over the top? Just faintly worrying I thought? The Derry was ok though?

    If a nation buys this, then its obliged to buy the Yak 130 and all the associated kit, if it buys that then its obliged to buy Russian combat aircraft like the Mig, or Sukhoi and all their associated kit.
