They did it that way for a reason. If Buffy saw what was coming, she might have said, "Damn the consequences, give me the extra power.". Doing it the way they did, showed her what she truly was. She rejected the power, choosing to face the coming storm without knowing what she would be facing, but certain that she might be able to win through. Somehow.

Yeah, it's kinda a choice thing. The first slayer had no choice and Buffy was given one. Good point that it's like the saying "Power corrupts; absolute power corrupts absolutely" Buffy chose not to be corrupted.

Hey Dakara the whole point of this episode isn't oh Buffy was tricked and set up to fail by these guys. It's the fact that they underestimate her. Everyone underestimates her. She's just a girl. They chained her to the earth just like they created the first slayer and they were gonna up her power to use her as a weapon against the first. (Not to mention make her less human. Less herself, infecting her with a demon) But the whole point of Buffy as a character is that she goes against the norm. The rules of the slayer. She'll have friends, she'll go to school, she'll date a boy, she'll run for homecoming queen, she'll go to prom, she'll go to college, she'll quit the council, she won't put all demons in the same evil category as the initiative, she won't kill dawn to save the world, she's buffy, the vampire slayer but she's a young woman who refuses to go by rules she doesn't agree with. F*ck the patriarchy so to speak. But she's a hero. And a great one at that, which she's proven time and time again. She doesn't want to be a tool used by cowardly men to fight the forces of evil, but as Willow points out in season 3, when she chooses to stay in sunnydale & help buffy instead of going to college somewhere else. Buffy doesn't fight evil because she has to, she fights it because she can and she wants to. She's a lot more than even she gives herself credit for being.

Facing the men who created the first slayer, created her own destiny & having a voice the first slayer did not, beating the crap out of them in designer boots on their own turf and telling them how wrong they are and that she spits in the face of all they stand for, it's a triumphant moment and a moment Buffy earns and deserves. I don't really blame the 3 guys. They were really just trying to help. Buffy came to them for help. And they decided to help her the only way they knew. They were cowardly men who had chained the first slayer to the earth against her Will and forced her to fight demons and they got her murdered brutally. Then they kept this going & going for centuries consistently getting young girls killed by throwing them into a battle, they never should have been fighting. They wanted to infect her with a demon by chaining her to the earth against her will, never mind everything they had already essentially caused in her life by her becoming the slayer in the first place. In Get It Done we again have the build up to the final battle with the house now teaming with potentials. We have Kennedy going around around like Sergeant Hartman from Full Metal Jacket, trying to be overly aggressive to the potentials in training. When Buffy allows Principal Wood back to the house we see the first confrontation with Spike. A shocking scene when they come across Chloe who has now hanged herself after being influenced by The First Evil, it seems The First can strike at any time and they seem powerless to stop infiltrating the house. A striking speech by Buffy where Spike gets upset about her saying he was a better fighter without a soul. She tunes on Anya in particular saying 'why are you even here'. The Slayers bag that Wood gave Buffy comes into play here, and we see them open a portal and Buffy on the other side of it. Kennedy again being Uber irritating when talking to Spike, how we wish it was Oz or Tara there instead. Great scene when Spike gets the leather coat back on, and Wood says 'where did you get it' Spike says 'New York', where of course he took it from The Slayer he killed in 1977. Spike shows his power by killing the demon. When Buffy tells Willow of the vision the ancient men showed her, a great transition to the massive army of the Turok-Han. Buffy now knows they need more power.

It is a slow episode, but what I like about it is that even though the series is almost over, they are still establishing lore. We finally get to know how slayers started. And we see an important bag of slayer items that would have given Buffy access to that history a lot sooner if it had been passed to the next slayer after Nikki died, and eventually down to Buffy. Buffy is a slayer who didn't know anything about being a slayer, not really. Neither did Faith. I mean, they talked about a Watcher's Manual, but I never took that seriously, since it was never mentioned again and it was never given to Buffy to look at. Both girls just sort of winged it.
I like that Robin is now acting like the sleeper agent, inveigling himself into the group to find a way to keep an eye on and perhaps find a way to take revenge on Spike. I think it was important for Kennedy to know just how dangerous Willow is. She was sort of treating magic like it was just this silly thing. She got a big lesson in how much it is not. I also loved Andrew's big board. And then Anya's former boss has a hit out on her, so she's not going to be safe, which effectively pulls her back into the group after being estranged since the wedding that wasn't. So while it was slow, a ton of things actually happened. And there was a lot of character development going on with Robin, Kennedy, and even Andrew as he tries so hard to make himself useful and fit in. He wants so much to redeem himself. Even Spike retrieving the coat served more than one purpose. So, so much going on.

I found this episode rather confusing, and I'm not sure that I agree with Buffy's speech, her criticisms, or her choices. Willow and Spike are both worried about using their respective powers, for fear that it will damage their humanity, so they are holding back. If Buffy is right to scold them, what does it say about her choice to refuse the bonus "powers of a demon" for fear that it will damage her humanity? Then we do see both Willow holding back less, with (arguably) temporary consequences -- Willow sucks some power from two Potentials, and Spike antagonizes Principal Wood -- so was that a good thing? And Buffy second guesses her choice, so no help there.
I think the writers were trying to show that the characters have to prioritize their powers with their humanity, but they haven't done a good job of showing me that the two are mutually exclusive, or why the characters are convinced they are so, and what makes Buffy think they shouldn't be, but then thinks they are, and then regrets it. Confusing, I called it. Plus the extra misogyny coding that was entirely unnecessary to the plot and is (as I see it) mostly in Buffy's head, not in those of the elders.

I think it’s sort of almost poetic that the process to create the Slayer is the inverse of making a vampire, making them “anti-vampires.”
The slayer was created by infusing the inert essence of a demon into a living human.
A vampire is made by a demon’s active essence possessing a human corpse.

Honestly, this episode feels kind of slow to me too. Robin learned last ep that Spike killed his mother; nothing has really moved in that story yet. We already knew that opening the Seal would release additional Ubervamps (Xander's date said so last ep); we just didn't know how many there were (in fact, it was not clear to me at first that Buffy's vision at the very end is of underneath the Seal in the school basement). Aside from Chloe's death, which is pretty minor anyway, really, nothing new is happening with the Potentials either. I love some of the acting in this season. JM in particular. SMG has stated she was tired, but I still believe she was great. To me it was the writers... They had a very strong couple of episodes at the beginning, they were GREAT at introducing the first evil from that sequence in episode 1 to Conversations with Dead People. On paper, this could have been an amazing villain and sometimes achieves it.... playing our characters, being able to appear as other people. They could have been a lot more consistent with the FE trying to win this fight by really getting into their deepest fears which have been introduce and developed before (think of Restless). We also had a great chance to pick up the Slayer lore established earlier and developed in S5 and really explore it more.
Instead, we got a lot of focus on minor characters, it also seems clear the writers didn't really know what to do with the First before the final episodes and even say in episode 12 that the First is in "remission" or something. So the season to me felt inconsistent, character development with a few exceptions was left aside, and we wasted too much time on side characters. However, I love how this season wraps the series wide character arc for Buffy and Willow, even more than season 5 especially for Willow, and thematically I believe season 7 wraps the series really nicely ( don't want to give spoilers)

Buffy was a bit spoiled and superficial herself in the beginning. Especially the movie version. Remember, Kennedy is young, scared and is just an assertive person. She had nothing to do with Chloe's death, Chloe was scared, weak & vulnerable, like that other English girl that was klld. These girls don't have the luxury of being trained properly and methodically by a Watcher or have the resources of the Watcher's Counsel. They're asked to grow up quickly and be soldiers quickly to save the world. Kennedy is just processing this and the fact that someone she cares about just violated her.(not on purpose)

We all have Light and Darkness within us, and generally our main concern is keeping far away from it, or at the very least not being controlled or overwhelmed by it. But Buffy, Spike and Willow (among others) have a chance to do more than that. If they can tap the power of that darkness, without losing control or being overwhelmed by it, then they are more able to overcome the challenges they face. But just because they Can manage a certain level of control doesn't mean that it is Easy. So Buffy refuses the unexpected "gift." The Potentials are inexperienced at dealing with darkness, and so in this larger fight they are acutely vulnerable to its attacks -- even those of persuasion. Spike has tried to put the darkness behind him, as much as possible. But now Buffy asks for more -- Spike following Buffy's lead explains much regarding his character arc (that started as an obsessive hunting of her). Buffy is Spike's inspiration, his "Muse", and he's able to tap into more darkness and power to "get it done" without losing control. Willow is still working on it, and her control is rather "rough around the edges." At the end of this episode Buffy realizes that she should have made the extra effort to accept more darkness her And Then To Control It. Because of what's coming, and because it is what heroes do. (At least in these stories. Others might embrace more inner silence to enhance their Chi -- or their ability to tap their Chi.)

"Get it done," vs show them Why, then get it done. That would be wise, but it's amazing how often that happens in real life -- perhaps the main source of political disagreements and dysfunction.

The photography this season is weird so dull. Not my favorite episode but necessary to the plot. This season lacks of strong events like seasons 5 and 6. Season 6 was the climax for characters so i can understand but shame to not finish by the best season. Even if great music and things happened.

I feel like Buffy was so unnecessarily cruel and callous in this episode - in particular the entire 'speech' she throws after Chloe's death. It's so weird how she's so cruel towards some poor, terrified girl who got bullied into killing herself by the First. It's hard to believe that it's the same girl who cried in front of Giles saying "I'm only sixteen years old. I don't want to die."
And then the added disrespect to her friends - the people who have been there for her time and time again, and who have helped her fight evil since they discovered they could - just a really bad look for Buffy - and out of character..
She should treat Xander, Willow, Giles and Spike like her council of most trusted advisors, but here she just demands them to follow her orders like they aren't experienced fighters or all things evil - or her friends!

I think she needed to be. They were dragging her down. It's always been tough for her and she's always felt a bit like a lone Wolf but she was up against something bigger and badder that she literally could not fight, her fists would go tru it. And all she's listening to is moaning and whining and criticism from her friends and a load of little annoying girls that thought they knew better than her but hello she's buffy the freaking vampire slayer. I think it's warranted tbh. If Buffys calling the shots, Shut up and do what she says don't pretend like u know better

This is war. War between Hell and Earth, no time for weakness that can be exploited by the first and get more of them klld. That's the reason there is a power structure in the military, follow orders to win and survive. The weight of leadership and the responsibility of these innocent girls is all on Buffy. She's trying to keep them alive and toughen them up as soldiers. No time for a Watcher to train them slowly and prepare them. This is a crash course.

@@simon7982 Right. LITERALLY Buff has the battle scars unlike these seedlings that haven't been thru war like Buffy has. She's not trying to be mean, she's trying to toughen them up so they don't die.

@@JoshuaMartian-go3tm ya I agree one zillion percent. She's proven time and time again that she's a super hero. None of those dopes sitting in her house rent free, eating her food & literally taking over the place, have any business talking down to her. Anya actually annoys me very much when she says she's not buffys friend. Get out then. None of them would be alive if it wasn't for her, the whole world would have been destroyed, let alone any of the general monsters she saved them from. The Wicca who won'ta is spot on too 🤣🤣 cmon willow u were big and ugly enough last year to try and end the world and now ur cowering in a corner, more powerful than ever before. Man up. Help out!
