@flatironstuning is there an update to this?
Where you still running the AN fitting on the killerB radiator in place of the cap? Could that contribute to excessive pressure?
Love the video and all the info 🫡

Thanks for watching and thanks for your question. This is the latest information, as we haven't driven the car since the race. The second engine worked perfectly in terms of cooling I'd say so the radiator and cooling system are definitely doing their job. We just had some form of underlying headgasket issue that only fully showed itself as a failure when we were qualifying.
As discussed in the video, that is why we were seeing such odd pressure values on the initial engine, but then once we put in the new engine for the race run, the coolant pressure was exactly as you would expect it should be.

Really valuable lnowledge on this video! Thank you.
Jon, on your experience, can you tell if there is a probable optimum installation location for coolant pressure sensor?

Thanks for watching and thanks for your question. Knowing what we do now, I'd say the stock location in the coolant crossover is just fine.
And since it is on the engine, it is grounded, which is helpful as well.
Hope that helps and Stay Tuned!

I have a 2007 sti and the first owner. I have been chasing a overheating issue since like 2015. When I have the AC on and climbing up steep hills the car tends to slightly over heat in 90 plus degree weather. Once I start going down hill and put it in neutral after about 10 to 15 seconds the temp goes back to normal. Im hoping its not a head gasket issue lol. I'm about to hit 200000 miles on the stock setup.

The first thing I would recommend would be to check the radiator caps. Here is what you need to look for:
      th-cam.com/video/HzjBJz1Zdmw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=O-KAooPCKmE4Z74C
Beyond that, I'd recommend testing the cooling system to make sure that it is holding pressure, no leaks, etc.
Hope that helps and that you can get your car to stay cool again.
      Stay Tuned!

You are losing pressure from your cooling system somewhere. You need to check ALL the coolant hoses, o rings, clamps on rad hoses. Brand new engine I installed - the stupid IAG hoses supplied with their AOS - the junk clamps supplied with the kit were leaking but only when the car was warmed up. I fixed it by using Oteiker clamps 👍

Engine checklist for 2025 Pikes Peak:
1- closed deck block with fire ring (with small coolant groove machined on the deck surface)
2- hand-smoothen oil galley passage throughout the block
3- australian PRI cast ej cylinder head (with dog leg exhaust port gone)
The rest i guess pretty much is ok at thr moment..😅
    Cheers 🎉

Have you watched the motor oil geek on TH-cam. He would take an oil sample after a short run for baseline dirtiness of the engine and then an oil sample after a race event or service interval and compare the wear metals found in the oil. Give data on what part of the engine is wearing, fuel dilution, is the oil handling sheer stresses. Tons of great info there to cut through the marketing bs

So what exactly cause the headgasket issue?overheat?or it actually is a head lift not headgasket issue?

    • @FlatironsTuning
      @FlatironsTuning  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Thanks for your question. I can't tell you for sure. All we now realize is that the head gasket was compromised for some time. It could have been the run up Pikes Peak in 2021???

Make it small, bring factory stripped car options, keep the price under 32k. Dont let any of the garbage cameras and safety devices be options In the car. Bring back power and mechanical screw the modernity
