I really love that record! They really developed their own style on this album, but to be honest I miss the darker vibes from their Deserted album! On Dark Superstition the crispy production is far better though. I bought concert tickets for November here in Germany now, looking forward!
just saw them tonight. they were freaking great. i love this album bit of songs with hooks. the fast stuff was core. pit was going crazy set list : punture wounds ruthless a chilling aura caught in the threads craving flesh flesh habit rusted gold from the ashes mistaken for dead dead star the black curtain patriarchal grip desperation *plus at beginning of show like around third song area Lead singer said they were doing a new song.
I never got into Gatecreeper before this album but damn the melodeath works with their style really well somehow and absolutely love the sisters of mercy vibes. Saw them live last night on a whim (probably 250 people there and cost $22, those sellouts). Mind blowing show, just so, so good.
agree that they bring in new fans, being successful is often bagged on by hardcore fans in all genres. Sad but true. I've probably done it myself, but gatecreeper has some awesome tracks on all their albums.
I believe drummer Fred Estby of Dismember helped Gatecreeper with preproduction for the new album!? I can only generally stomach a certain amount of melody in my death metal, before it gets to be too cheesy, but I find that Gatecreeper on this album has found a nice sweet spot between gnarly old school swedish Boss HM2 worship and the more new-found melo-death leanings, and thankfully they refrain from incorporating clean vocals. I dug it for what it is; a solid 4 out of 5 album for me... 🤗
everyone who's claiming that this album is a hardcore album has brain rot, didn't listen to it or either hates the band. it's so far from it its ridiculous
It is so cringe seeing people calling this Melodeath. It is pure swedish death metal whorship and this album does it to perfection and spreads fucking death metal to the masses.
It’s a melodic at times Swedish death metal album. Sorry if I’m cringe you’re welcome to never watch my shit again. Hey at least you liked the album like I did.
@@MelanieLovesDeathMetal Hey, I am not talking about you. You are not cringe. I really enjoyed your opinions and very much agreed with you about your review. SORRYYY. I mean other poeple I have seen talk about it.
I don't get the hype for this band. They're so extremely average sounding and uninspiring to me. I gave this album a shot but found it pretty boring and middle of the road.
No it doesn't live up to their last album all their heavy crushing riffs are gone they are pretty much straight up melodic death metal now disappointing.
I absolutely hated it couldn’t even make it through 3 songs. It sounded like they were trying to copy what Power Trip sounded like and they weren’t a very good band either in my opinion. I like the rest of their stuff but this was just boring as hell!
Sonoran Deprivation was much better and so was Deserted IMO, this one did not keep my attention quite as much. Not worth a vinyl purchase but I don't regret buying the CD.
Forgot to mention the cowbell. Yes, there is a brief moment of cowbell. Always appreciate the cowbell in music.
"Guess what! I've got a fever, and the only prescription is more cowbell!" ~ Bruce Dickinson
MORE COWBELL! 🤘🤣🤘
Reminds me of that SNL episode.
Absolutely love it. Normally I’m not the biggest fan when bands go more melodic, but this just works so well and just banging songs
Agreed! Love the Big Riff Energy shoutout, listening to Nate is part of my Tuesday routine haha. I love the album cover as well
The 'Big Riff Energy' podcasts are great! 👍
Melanie this album kicks ass! I feel like I hear blackened hardcore with death doom in a fast pace. Beasty album.
A lot of metalcore bands in the mid 00's and onward started sounding basically like melodic deathmetal ;)
This means nothing to me because I can’t name a metalcore band from 00’s
@@MelanieLovesDeathMetal I just think that's why people are saying they sound like a hardcore band or whatever.
hi melanie, great Slayer shirt, show no mercy
great review. thanks

the bass is killer on this
I dug this album. I’m a big fan of all things Swedish OSDM and early melodeath, so I dug the melodic elements on this.
Gatekeeping Gatecreeper, ha. Yeah that’s dumb. New album is rad.
Big Riff Energy rules! Big fan.

For me album of 2024 so far! The " Flesh Habit" song is a brilliant. Hey Mel, your op from new Kerry King album?
Honestly I haven’t listened to it yet.
@@MelanieLovesDeathMetalit’s not great, it’s Slayer from Wish
Great new album. How do you like the new Tombstoner?
I only listened to it once and I don’t really have an opinion yet. Need more time with it.
I'm not afraid of melodic flourishes. You dig some progressive metal. Have you checked out the new Exist album?
Gatecreeper are the biggest exception when I say that I don't like death metal

Gatecreeper vs Gate keepers.

I wrote that without watching your whole video. This album is great. srry srry

Every time you say Gatecreeper TH-cam captions spells out gay creeper.
I'm sorry, Melanie. I can't get into them at all.
